UPDATE: Updated OP with a slew of new pictures courtesy of KBadOne. Thank you very much for taking the time to make all of these, they're amazing!

Just announced at MWC, Sony's latest flagship is the Xperia 1. And before you ask, no 3.5mm headphone jack but a dongle is included with a 3.5mm adapter

Christ that looks nice. I never really think of my phone (1+3T) as outdated until I see new releases.

So does 1 mean All-in-One like Xbox One?

Just to clarify the new naming scheme, it looks like they're using the same names as their point and shoot cameras. So with their cameras the RX1 is the flagship, and RX10 is a mid ranger. There is also a new Xperia 10 and 10+ that were announced alongside this one

Jesus christ why do they do shit like this? Lower the resolution, make it an IPS panel, and make it a better product. It's like, almost the perfect handset. So, so close! Seriously, this thing is gorgeous. THIS is what phones should strive to be.

Like, I know it's not just Sony but with the subpixel layout and arrangements (pentile and such) on some OLEDs, you have to go a lot higher in resolution to make it look as clear as an IPS panel on the same size. More pixels also means more stuff to render, which means taxing the processor and battery. There is a point where the numbers really don't matter with pixel density on a phone handset. I mean, some of these things have like 500+ PPI, it's getting ridiculous. Waste of performance battery and money.

Sony just moved away from IPS panels to OLED late last year on their flagships. I don't think they'll be going back. As for the resolution, this phone is basically taking features from their previous Premium models (the last 3 also had 4K displays) and putting it into the main flagship.

Does make me wonder if we'll eventually get a Premium variant or if that line is dead now

Why do I need a 6.5" screen in my pocket?

Whatever happened to reasonable screen sizes?

They're releasing the 6" Xperia 10 and 6.5" Xperia 10 plus with more manageable resolutions for $380/430 :D

there's like 50 other android phones you can get that are smaller? Sony is trying to stand out in a sea of Android phones. At least they're trying something different?

What's funny is the Xperia 10 mid-range phones that were announced today do have headphone jacks. Can't say I understand their logic there.

Maybe they thought people who will buy high end range doesn't have much problem owning Bluetooth headphone/earphone?

But to be fair, I'm sitting in the train going to work rightnow and I don't see a single person use wire earphone. Weird....

That looks lovely but I got pretty burned by the XZ last time I switched off iOS for a Sony phone so I'll probably stay strong...probably...

I feel like I am not nor I will be satisfied with a phone this year or next lol, these kind of phones are just linear updates and thus boring, and the foldable ones are still in really early stages, I wish more OEMs went back to look at the Lumia 1020 and give us a super crazy big camera sensor in a phone

We will probably instead see more phones using multi-camera configurations to give better images using this tech:

The new Nokia 9 is using such a configuration. Here's a link with sample images:

Wow, been a long time since I've thought a Sony phone was any novel. Those look like top specs, too.

:O Nokia (or "Nokia") commitment to imaging is always great, I like that they can recreate variable apperture not on software but with the 5 cameras, I will read more about this phone, you got me intrigued

I would like to get this or the next iteration as my next phone but it seems like Sonyis or has withdrawn Xperia from my market. The telcos no longer carry their phones and their stores haven't brought in anything new since XZ2.

Hopefully they're just preparing for relaunching the brand with their new models and not withdrawing completely. Being using their phones for more than 12 years, since the Sony Ericsson days.

Seems the trend is for the ultra expensive flagship models to drop the 3.5mm jack (nothing like penny pinching on your premium model), while the high to mid-range ones retain it. Problem with Sony is their mid-range models are always overpriced and underpowered, the 10 only has 3gb RAM with a Snapdragon 630 which is utterly pathetic compared to the competition.

Using Bionz X for EyeAF is actually pretty cool. It is one reason why people love the Sony Alphas, but I think Sony Mobile can't and won't make that stand out more.

I've been browsing and watching videos like that simultaneously since I got my S9+ a year ago, it's a game changer.

No jack, stupid aspect ratio for a phone, small battery, no 8gb Ram option... Wtf Sony. Where's the superior compact version?

No body has give detailed impression about the screen. I thought it would be most talked about feature along with camera.

Also funny that no YouTuber has made preview of this phone even tough they have for worse lg g8

Watch this be stupidly expensive. I wish it had atleast 8 GB of ram and had the headphone jack.

Very nice looking phone but I'm happy with the XZ3. The screen on the new phone seems to be the same anyway, just bigger.

Omg, back to the glass on back and front? I friggin loved my Z1 for that reason alone. Currently going with the XZ2 and I absolutely hate the back...
