With an apparent breakthrough in relations between South Korea and North Korea, South Korean President Moon Jae-in says, "President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize."

The remark follows Friday's historic summit between Moon and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, in which the two leaders would work to eliminate nuclear weapons and reach a permanent peace deal on the Korean Peninsula — aspirations that the pair embraced without going into detail about how to achieve them.

Moon's comment about Trump came during a cabinet meeting on Monday. The Blue House has confirmed the accuracy of the quote.

As Moon praised Trump for his role in improving the relationship with the northern regime, the South Korean leader added, "The only thing we need is peace."

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday played down the prospect of winning the Nobel Peace Prize for his historic summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un, saying Donald Trump can have it instead.

Friday's summit between Moon and Kim has been hailed as a major step towards easing tension on the flashpoint peninsula and setting the mood for Kim's upcoming face-to-face encounter with the US president.

It was the third summit between the two Koreas following meetings between Kim's late father Kim Jong Il and late South Korean presidents Kim Dae-Jung and Roh Moo-Hyun, in 2000 and 2007 respectively.

Kim Dae-jung won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000 for his role in the first summit. His widow, in a congratulatory message sent on Monday, told Moon she hoped he could also win the prize, set to be announced in October.

"President Trump can take the Nobel prize. All we need to take is peace," Moon said in response.

It seems you can win the prize for whatever reason the committee decides. So Trump could win it. But considering the backlash to Obama's prize, I imagine they might hesitate. Especially when Trump seems likely to accelerate combat missions elsewhere in the world.

Nobel will probably see a certain amount of backlash no matter they do, I suppose.

Dude can't say that he deserves it or it's gonna look bad, nor can he says that Kim Jong Un deserves it, so it's understandable that he'd choose the orange clown as a candidate.
Hopefully he doesn't win.

Eh, I know Moon praising Trump is a pragmatic thing to do, but I sincerely hope it doesn't come to this and instead the prize goes to Moon.

Realistically, he's just buttering Trump up so that he doesn't say or do anything to fuck it up.

That said, dramatic improvement/peace/reunification between North and South Korea happening solely because America elected an unstable narcissistic sociopath that made North Korea legitimately scared that America would actually (re)start a war with them, and said unstable narcissistic sociopath subsequently receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, would be one of the more hilarious possible outcomes of the Trump presidency.

And it would certainly be more earned than the one they gave Obama before he even fucking did anything.

The guy threatened the shit out of North Korea. I wouldn't be surprised if NK did the peace talks and gained more allies so they wouldn't be at the mercy of Trump's twitter account.

I mean, that’s an awful idea. But Pres. Moon is learning that people get what they want out of this guy by flattery. He’s gotta do what stands a chance of success, so let him say whatever.

Moon is a genius of diplomacy. He can't trust Trump, but he can trust Trump to be Trump. So as long as he keeps being fluffed, he won't fuck up the work that the adults are doing.

Seems like slow peace year aside from the Korean deal but I still can't see giving Trump the prize when the rest of his porfolio is based on hate and division. It wouldn't be a good message to send.

We all know Kim is doing this because his nuclear facility collapsed, and he probably needs South Korea now. Trump winning the peace peize would be such an awful symbol for the world...but to be honest i wouldn't be that surprised if he won.

Yeah, not a single chance given who awards it (also, both Moon and Kim are more deserving). Trump can commission his own, award it to himself, and call the real Prize "fake". Might as well give himself that Emmy he thinks he deserves (he doesn't), too.
