- Pokemon Sword/Shield easily becomes the best Switch launch in Spain with 129,100 units sold [Double pack counted as 2 copies], previous record-holder was Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee with 64,000 units sold.
- It also becomes the #2 best launch of the year, above KH3 (59,000) and Call of Duty Modern Warfare (49,650) but below FIFA 2020 (220,000)
- The split is the following : Pokémon Sword: 71.600 units ; Pokémon Shield: 46.300 units ; Pokémon Double Pack: 5600 units

- Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order launches at #2 on PS4 (with 15,250 units sold) and #10 on XB1 with 2,050 units sold.
- The PS4 version becomes the #15 launch of the year.
- Battlefront 2 opened at 20,000 but expectations were higher on that one. Legs should be good for Fallen Order too.

- Switch continues to rise week over week with 6750 units sold (including 3700 Lite of which 1800 are the Pokemon model).

This game utterly dominated sales charts worldwide beyond a level that even i was prepared for (and I was very bullish on its sales potential to begin with).

Oh lol, they counted the double pack as one sale in the article. 129k is great, strong performance. Hardware isn't as big as I had expected, though.

Spain still rules for that Astral Chain launch
Yep I'm surprised too but I've noticed that lots of friends have bought the game so it makes sense. The list also shows how poor is XB doing here, FIFA (and football in general) is the biggest thing in Spain, most people are obsessed with it to a degree and the others watch it "because it's what all my friends do", so that a football game sold less than "niche" games like AC or Sekiro means that the platform is owned by only a few people. I mean, I don't give a fuck about football, but all my friends who don't give a fuck about videogames (and some that play often) have the latest FIFA game.

Spain
I only know one person who was a regular buyer of Pokémon that has not bought Sw / Sh for Dexit, the rest we are playing all in addition to people who had not played Pokémon in a long time.

I knew two who said they were going to sit Sw/Sh out to vote with their wallets, and
Then they bought it.

Switch is really making a run for that 100 Million Switch sales, strong numbers for Spain, what is the total install base there? It was around 300k back in January 2018 iirc.

Gamefreak puts out a pokemon game every year, they introduced a whole new engine, controllable camera, moved away from a grid system and variable terrain. Honestly, Gamefreak wasn't lazy with Sw/Sh, they were just not giving themselves enough time. Had they not have done Ultra S/M, the game would probably be a lot more polished, but when you are dropping a new 10M+ seller every year, you can't give everyone what they want.

As for your friends dropping their boycott, yeah with sales like these, it's happening everywhere. I am interested to hear about what everyone thinks about this game by the end of the year tbh.

Huh, thought they would be pretty even. I didn't expect Sword to outsell Shield.

I know one of them actually really likes it (haven't had the chance to talk to the other one yet). In general reception and word of mouth from those who've actually played it is positive.

Nice, yeah I'm wanting to buy it. Haven't been able to get into any Pokemon games since Red, but I bought X/Y, somehow this one seems much more interesting, I think it's the wilds section that caught my eye.
Sword has been murdering shield pretty much everywhere, don't know close or far the past gens were but this one is a bit lopsided in sword's favor.
I mean it's entirely the name. Swords are cooler than Shields, they are an active item, unless you're captain america, a shield is a passive one which mentally makes it less compelling for a video game/entertainment.

If your main complaint with the franchise was one of the following two reasons (or both of them), then Sword Shield could be the game for you to restart the franchise:
1. I want to walk around and see Pokémon I haven't seen before pop up and then try to catch them.
2. I didn't like the drag of having only one Pokémon gain experience, and needing to balance them at every point in the game.

These are the two main points that Sword Shield address (solution for (1) is the Wild Area, solution for (2) is universal Exp Share), and it's why I love them so much myself.

Yeah those bothered me, but my biggest complaint is moving on a grid in 3D, "exploring" where you just follow a straight path. It all just doesn't work for me.

This game has a mix of those: The routes in between towns are very linear, but the Wild Area provides the non-linearity and explorability (although mostly in terms of finding new Pokémon).

I have Shield but I fully understand that for most people a sword is more attractive than a shield.

Astral Chain love from Spain Nice!

I hope it did well in many other places. Platinum deserves all the success they can get.

Pokemon of course is a beat.

Hats off to you Spain! (Unless you support VOx)

Crazy numbers, seems it's doing very well in every market we get numbers for.
