As of recent times Sony stoked a fair bit of controversey by applying "light rays" to select Japanese visual novel titles.

It soon became apparent that this was a forward policy and would reflect upon future titles.
Smaller Devs expressed dismay at working with the new guidlines and a Twitter "backlash" against Sony was formed.

I believe devil may cry 5 containing censorship, enclosed within a patch is the first example of this policy applying itself to the aaa console space.

The game remain uncensored on pc and Xbox and it seems at current the patch is only designed at the western ps4 release.

Whilst I remain impartial to the topic I'm curious how it will affect future titles such as cyberpunk.

How do we all feel ?

Are you fully in support of Sony's stringent new policy's, or are you against them.

I don't typically have a problem with this stuff because usually it's censoring something creepy and unnecessary.

If they want to impose stricter guidelines on nudity, they can go ahead. But the way they're going about it is absurd. Just let people release their games, and apply the policy to future titles that aren't far enough in development that the devs would need to add light rays and such. I'm not sure I understand the logic behind applying the guideline retro-actively to games that are already far in development or that are even already released.

It's pretty dumb. I can understand censorship when it comes to stuff like zanki zero but the stuff in dmc5 is pretty tame. Whoever is in charge of this at sony is going a bit overboard and makes me want to move fully back to pc gaming in the future.

There's a scene that has Lady in it and it was weird. I knew that it was censored. Can't understand all this censorship since the game is 18+

My reaction when I saw that they added lens flare in the full game was a very tiny urge to sorta half shrug, not even strong enough for me to actually act out on. This is just not something that matters in DMC whatsoever.

I don't really get it either. Even then, it's pretty inconsistent. Lady has a similar scene where a light beam covers her ass, but that's on all versions and is played mostly as a joke (I think).

Dear people at Sony, I live in Europe. As you might know, we mostly don't have any kind of issues with the female body like some American folks do. Having said that, I must ask: Why is our version censored as well?

The unnatural nudity-seeking light ray method is just so heavy handed it's hilarious. Can't say I see the issue with letting a 30+ year old woman's buttcheeks be visible briefly in an M rated game.

Oh no a naked human body the horror must censor. Like its a adult person so what exactly is bad here? If it was a kid, teen or loli that wouldve been bad but a adult character? Why exactly does that need to be censored in a 18+ game?

This is pretty tame imo no censor needed.

My initial instinct is to just shrug it off, because I really don't care. At the same time, this isn't the pedo smut that they've been censoring like before and it annoys me that this is even a thing. It also has me wondering just how far this is eventually going to go. I completely get what the thread title is going for. First it's things that should be censored, then it's a tiny thing here or there, and the next thing you know it's everywhere.

It's a bit weird to censor butts in an ultraviolent game. I could show that image to my children but not the monsters and gore in the game.

However I would probably not notice this if nobody mentioned it.

Lady has no nipples in this game, even on PC. Why do that? Censored human anatomy is gods damned, ludicrously dumb.

It's a dumb throwaway scene that lasts a few seconds, who honestly cares that much. I'm more bummed out that the game does both Trish and Lady dirty by ramping up the fanservice.
