That's cool. Are these games even any good? I think I had DQ1 (Dragon Warrior?) as a small child and hated it, but didn't give it much of a chance.

I is a very interesting experience, as it is the precursor of the genre and also unique in the sense that it's a solo a adventure, there is no party, just the main character and a small world to explore. You can enjoy it or not, but it's so short that I'd recommend it either way.

I played the GBC version of II and I found it decent, but I'm a fan of the series and played it with a historical interest, to see how the game improved form the first one, etc. If you're gonna play it, you will probably have to be prepared for grinding a bit and using a guide from time to time.

III is when the series really gets going, the job system and other novelties were revolutionary and the time, and besides that the game is very enjoyable overall, definitely holds up today (specially if we're talking SNES version). It's probably one of the most important games of all time and a behemoth of a cult classic in Japan.

I still don't like how I and II look in 3DS/PS4, but III looks like the SNES version, but without animated enemies. Interesting.

I tried to play the Android port of DQ1, but my phone didn't have a "Home" button, which is what opened the menu. There was an onsceeen button for the menu but for whatever reason the onscreen joystick sat on top of it so I couldn't actually hit it, and they weren't moveable/remappable. I even went through SE customer service but none of their solutions worked, so in the end they just refunded me my 2 dollars. I didn't try 2/3 because I figured they would have the same problem and I didn't care enough to buy them to find out. So I am pretty excited about this, and assume they would be the mobile ports in any case. But at least I know I will have the right buttons.

Edit: Whoops, looks like it isn't going to be the mobile versions. Sort of a bummer- after playing DQ4-6 and the PS1 version of 7, I grew kind of fond of the artstyle.

So ugly. Why couldn't they just give it the Mana treatment and have M2 doing an emulation collection? Or at least do a visually pleasing mobile remake like the SaGa games?

Dragon Quest deserves better.

First I can play SNES games now this. God I love my switch. I ignored it for most of 2017 except for BotW and Mario, and I barely touched it in 2018. It's making a hard comeback.

Does Sugiyama get royalties for every single download, or has it already been paid to him as a lump sum?

I am tired of port begging. I can't believe I ask companies to release old games for money that I would pay.

I am tired about asking TO PAY for N64 games for Switch, DQVII and VIII on switch and ps4. For a supposed PS4 patch of DQXI (which I would pay for it was dlc. ...). For FF Tactics , etc.

Here's hoping for an English release. Dragon Quest is quite truly the only game I have ever been able to bring myself to play from start to finish on a phone — and I pretty much hated the controls and screen size the whole way through. I purchased DQII but didn't last half an hour; it seemed promising as a game but I was beyond done with the interface.

I'll consider it a travesty if this isn't released in the West and an English translation is available. Would strongly consider importing, which is something I rarely ever consider.

All these "news sources" with "physical confirmation" are just extrapolating from one vague facebook post.

Awesome! Are these gonna be the SFC versions?
These are the same as the ones that hit PS4 and 3DS a couple years back which are similar to the mobile versions but better, and those were based off the SNES versions.

I am guessing they aren't using the SNES versions cause reworking those for text issues would be a lot of work, ala Mana Collection, but for many of us we'd prefer that route.

Is DQ the exact same as Dragon Warrior or were there changes made for the west?
The NES versions game years later but generally had some nice visual upgrades, gameplay balancing and added battery backed saving for the earlier titles. DW1-2 NES especially are a good jump over DQ1-2 Famicon.

Thanks. I had only played DW on NES. I look forward to trying the OG again as DQ along with 2 and 3.

This doesn't look like the mobile version I have of I.
Yeah, it does. Just in 16:9 and without the touchscreen overlay.

Also an updated translation which better matches the later and current games.

It's great we're getting these but I wish they'd just port their translations over to the far superior SNES versions. The mobile ports are hideous.

It's great if these are finally re-released, even if these aren't the best ports. And these would really deserve a physical collection.

I'd much rather have the GBC versions. DW/DQ1 isn't the same game without square character sprites.

(Make a Square-Enix joke and I'll cut you.)

Oh my fucking GOD

The best way to get DQ stuff released in English is to stop caring! Stop hoping! And bam you are rewarded.

If this gets a cart release I'm buying it. Holy shit.

Now it is time to get greedy and want more >:)
