Hi and welcome. This thread was created not only to help keep up with Square's numerous upcoming titles but also to discuss them and speculate.
So here goes, starting with SE's own business divisions, followed by their (Japanese and western) subsidiaries and then finally the projects they have in collaboration with other studios. Big thanks to Koozek and Nirolak for their very informative posts/threads and Valdei for the awesome main banner.

Can I literally just have FF remakes in the style of Octopath Traveler please? The more I hear about FF7 remake the more distant it seems from the core gaming in the original, what its longtime fans asked for, and the more I wonder just who the hell their target is supposed to be besides Nomura.

If you're moving the Asano games under BDXI, you should probably move Bravely Default: Fairy's Effect and Bravely Archive: D's Journal there as well.

You might also want Square Enix Montreal under subsidiaries. They did Hitman: GO, Lara Croft: GO, Deus Ex: GO, and Hitman Sniper, and will be having a rather prominent future at Square Enix now that they're like a 3-4 game at once studio.

Very nicely put together though.

Oh right, thanks.

I'll add SE Montreal soon, though I couldn't for the life of me find what they're currently working on. I'm guessing it will have something to do with The Avengers?

Cool thread and nice work with the banners.

If I have a request it's to divide their studios by Square Enix and Square Enix Europe, instead of whether they're a business division or subsidiary. The Square Enix vs Square Enix Europe distinction is far more important IMO, given that Square Enix Europe manages all their western studios and projects and a lot of people misplace the blame when something goes wrong with them.

They're unveiling a new game within a month or two. I suspect it's actually Final Fantasy based given Square Enix's CEO said he wanted Square Enix Montreal to work with more Japanese IPs.

New freemium mobile games:
https://venturebeat.com/2018/06/02/...making-the-leap-to-free-to-play-mobile-games/

Possibly based on SE's Japanese IPs:
Another interesting perspective into the balanced between East and West at Square Enix is the mobile space. The vast majority of the publisher's mobile titles are developed in the East, and therefore most likely to attract audiences in Japan, Korea, China and other similar markets. But it does still have a Western presence in the mobile space.

Matsuda describes Square Enix Montreal - developer of Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go - as "the centrepiece of our mobile effort" to attract more Western smartphone owners, but recognises that the number of Western studios working on mobile games is "something we need to bolster and work hard on". This also extends to reaching the end users, he says.

"If there's an area where we have not done all that we could have up until now, it would have to be the US - well, the Western markets but especially the US. The question there is how we go about getting our titles into the upper rankings, and one way we can do that is by leveraging our IP, especially our Japanese IP."

Source.

Oh you mean put the subsidiaries managed by SE Japan with SE's business divisions? Unfortunately I ran out of characters in my first post so I can't really add much.
But I'll make sure to emphasize the difference between the Japanese managed subsidiaries and the western ones. Thanks for the suggestion.

While I don't think it's implausible BD5 is working on FF16, and certainly they're the most obvious option given no one else seems to have enough free staff, I would suggest tempering expectations a bit insomuch that they're likely to make it a rather social game even if it's not a straight MMO given what that branch does, and I know that kind of thing can be upsetting to some here.

Unless of course you're among those who loves that kind of thing, at which point, let your hype run free.

Yeah, that's fine. Thanks for hearing me out and making that small change. A couple of other small suggestions:
1. Subsidiary is a bit formal, maybe go with Studios instead? It might just be me but "Studios managed by SE Japan/Europe" is a bit more self explanatory.
2. Maybe throw the external studios section into the third post? It helps separate them from the subsidiaries/studios a bit more.
3. Does Square Enix Osaka (KH3) count as a subsidiary/studio?

Those are all fairly small nit picks though. Again, great job on the OP.

I'm tempering my personal hopes because it's clear that what I want out of a Final Fantasy game and what the consumer base in general wants is not very similar. But I'd love if FFXVI was a game that lifted staff and influences from XII and XIV and had some limited social elements, like a lobby system for online content or drop in/out co-op. Sounds pretty fun to me. I hope that BD5 speculation is true.

Otherwise, I always have plenty to look forward from BD5, BD11, and Square Enix Europe. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is going to be great, can't wait to see that Avengers game, and Asano has all of my money sight unseen.

Speaking of BD5, Heavensward and Stormblood were both announced at the October FFXIV Fanfest events prior to the next summer's release. Probably safe to assume that's happening again, so two months from now for the next expansion announcement.

Hey Ishiro, thanks for the thread.lol I'm glad that you were able to create it with my suggestion in that day.

And it is really good, loved it. Pretty good work. But I wonder if the Bravely games should be on BD11 when those were created on BD6 when they were part of it.

Cool thread and nice work with the banners.

Yeah, this is a important distinction. SEE manages and produces the western games be it for their studios or external not owned by them while SEJ manages and produces the japanese projects in the same way.

Great Thread !

So will Tabata head two studios/teams now (BD2 and Luminous) or was BD2 converted into Luminous Productions?

I wish they could make a FF game that had social cities that were as vibrant as FFX, but then the story/grinding were instanced world. Very similar to what guildwars 1 did. Although if we could see people in the wild, similar to destiny, that would be really cool too.

I play far too much ffxiv, so I hope their team is working on a new expansion

Great Thread !

So will Tabata head two studios/teams now (BD2 and Luminous) or was BD2 converted into Luminous Productions?
We don't know yet exactly what happens to BD2 and if it will be merged or refilled with new staff. We'll probably have to wait for FFXV's new DLC's credits to see if it's credited to BD2 or LP.

1- Done!

2- I have something else in mind for the 3rd post. Some sort of misc section for important news/information/speculation that I don't want buried with the rest. I also want to leave some wiggle room since apparently maxing out characters is a real thing. Whew.

3- My understanding is that the Osaka team = BD3 since the latter is credited with the remasters and is also listed as developer for KH3.
Hey Ishiro, thanks for the thread.lol I'm glad that you were able to create it with my suggestion in that day.

And it is really good, loved it. Pretty good work. But I wonder if the Bravely games should be on BD11 when those were created on BD6 when they were part of it.
Thank you! And yes, this was all your idea. I think you also said that Capcom should receive the same treatment, which I also agree with.

What you're saying about BD6 is technically correct but I thought I would move everything Asano has directed to BD11 since it's pretty safe to assume that his whole team migrated there as well. I will probably do the same with Tabata and his team once we get some sort of confirmation that his BD2 team moved to Luminous.

hahaha even if it was my idea you're the one who made it reality :3

And I understand it then, makes sense. Again, great job on this, it's really good.

Amazing thread. I can't wait for glorious returns of Motomu Toriyama! Hopefully he's not on FFVII Remake and is working on console game right now, ideally FFXVI for next gen.

First and foremost, this is a phenomenal thread. Absolute bloody kudos to you Ishiro.

I had a vague idea Square was a busy publisher and developer, but when you stand back and see it all gathered together in one spot like you have here so sufficiently, it really does sink in just HOW busy they actually are. They've got the keys to kingdom on some of the biggest franchises going around town, and even more developers waiting in the wings for their time to shine. I'd honestly say a vast majority of my favourite franchises today are covered by one of their studios, it's pretty exciting to see how their next five odd years or so turn out. There's quite the blend of new IP/established there prime for the big time.
