Square Enix talks about the budget for Left Alive

This game was on of those games that flew under the radar. I seriously doubt the game made any type of gain for square enix.
At TGS it was mentioned that it will have a stage based structure and choices will have an affect on the story. There are three leads and the player will be bouncing between playing them.
DQ XI is pretty much AAA. I don't think that you can compare it to something like Nier Automata

It depends what lens we look at AAA through.
Is anything less than $70-$80+ million dev budget actually AAA in 2017? I'm not sure it is.
This is why I favored adding AAAA as a category, but people balked at that.
Linear story driven is the opposite of hardcore, probably talking about an open world with a lot of things to do.
more should take this approach, many AAA titles end up trying to do too much and fail. And because of their bloated budget they end up having to add microtransactions
I took it to mean the opposite strangely. Like deep and skill based, but low on content and production value? I don't know why it struck me like that.
I think they're positioning it as challenging and meaty to dig into rather than merely wowing people with production glitz. Thus it can appeal to "hardcore" gamers without the need for a huge budget.
Are you confusing this with I Am Alive? thats a Ubisoft game

Basically they're targeting a niche audience of core gamers and think the game will appeal to them even if it doesn't have as many bells and whistles as Red Dead Redemption 2.
Stupid. Blow up the budget and pass off the increased costs to the consumers. Every game needs to do this. It's the only way. There's no other alternatives than jacking up prices and anticonsumer gatcha white whale schemes.
