With Stadia using what is essentially next gen console hardware you can soon try out next gen consoles, one year earlier than planned, assuming you have the internet speed needed.

We're looking at 10.7 TF computation, 4K, HDR, 60fps, no load times, no noisy fan lottery, no huge day 1 patches + stackable hardware if the dev need it.

You obviously won't get the 1-2 big Sony/MS/Nintendo exclusives per year there but you'll have tons of multiplats. UPlay+ will also be there as well for those who want the Netflix for games type of service.

So, will you be there?

Nope, Google deemed my country unworthy

Which is probably why I'm not really into the streaming thing. We usually just get shafted on these things down here

There's basically no next-gen software though. One of the big missed opportunities of Stadia - a year early, but more or less nothing built to show off the hardware.

Wasn't there a previous next gen console that was going to require a constant internet connection, which was an extremely unpopular idea at the time.

Not really sure how the same games current consoles play except with more latency is 'next gen'.

I'm excited to give it a try once the free service launches, but no way am I giving any money up-front on faith of it working.

My net can handle it at 4k 60fps but I want to wait for it to be in wild first before diving in. Would have been better if they showed off more games running on it. I want to see how Destiny 2 will pan out. Lack of Fov and 30fps hurts.

Big nope. I have no interest in paying for games on a streaming platform. I'll stick to a powerful PC and a PS5 for exclusives, with a Switch on the side. I have uncapped fiber optic internet, but I won't sully it with game streaming :P

I see no appeal whatsoever in game streaming.

Nope. It's not even out in my country but the entire thing sounds stupid and I don't think they really understand the segmented audience they want.

Thread title is misleading as hell. Streaming is still shit for 90% of people out there and next gen won't be any better, especially when internet services aren't tracked to get anywhere near better on a general level for a long time.

Won't be taking part myself, even though I have internet that can smash it. I prefer to play things locally. Modding is lost with streaming, ownership without a connection is lost, etc. Its a step backwards.

''Next gen consoles''

Is that what we're calling playing streamed games from high end PCs now?

Doubtful considering Google's pile of dead services that don't become the next big thing, I'd much rather stream with Sony or Microsoft

I'll wait for Cyberpunk and probably try that out then. Seems like it's going to be ideal for games that traditionally work fine at 30fps and aren't hindered too much by input lag. Or I'll wait and see if Stadia ever gets a Switch app, that would probably convert me more.

I still have it preorder, but will probably cancel. If Google throw around their money, and offer a strong GamePass like option - then I am in.

No I can't? Stadia has neither the games nor the graphical quality next gen consoles will have.

The few games I could theoretically play on Stadia I'll just get on PS4 instead. I hope it does well but I've decided to pass.

I'm trying it simply because if it works for me, I'll just think of it as renting a gaming PC, and means I don't have to continually upgrade. I just can't justify that race any more.

not anymore "next gen" than playing on a top end PC. but if it goes off without a hitch and your connection allows (and you're on the 'premium' plan) then you have something to look forward to. especially if you've been playing vanilla ps4/bone erstwhile

I do want to give it a try in some capacity one day. But I'm not looking to pay any money to try something that isn't really designed for me and I won't be using for anything but to sate my curiosity. A PC player with their own custom rig and a few consoles isn't really the intended audience for something like Stadia I don't think.

By that logic, I can turn on my PC and try out next gen consoles. I'll give it a go when the free service is live; honestly being able to play Destiny on any device is a big draw for me so I am interested in that regard.

Nope. Data caps. The majority of the US has them. Why a billion dollar company like Google thinks this will work while ISPs have data caps and restrict users speeds depending on the site, makes me laugh.

I mean, I guess next gen hardware is high end PC parts, but nothing about Stadia is offering a next generation experience. It's streaming PC games we can already play at visual fidelity we can already experience, but with input lag and video compression heaped on top. And you need a 4K HDR capable TV (plus extremely good internet) to make best use of it anyway, people who can afford those probably already have a PC capable of better.

That's standard practise really when a new generation starts, around year 2 we start getting games that feel next gen.

I'm still super excited for the cloud gaming era to start! And it'll be awesome to essentially see what we can expect from PS5/XB2 with no load times and same gen AMD architecture being the focus.

Nah OP, I'll play with games installed to my PC which is more powerful than whatever Sony and MS will try to push on the masses at least a full year from now.

"Next gen" as in...current PCs but with more lag? Do you get a cut or something? lol

Lol true. My current PC build is probably way better than what Stadia will offer, only without the benefits of Gysnc, Ultrawide, and with a healthy dose of compression and lag. I wouldn't switch to it if they paid me.

I'm tempted for the convenance of it at 4K and pc graphics but their business plan sucks and I do not trust google one iota

I've already "tried next gen consoles" then as my PC is already more powerful than that lol

Next gen is surely about next gen software. Aside from the the two indie games, there isn't anything else (at launch at least) I can't play already on my PC, with way better image quality, no lag, no video compression, 120hz, etc

Also when it comes to current consoles vs Stadia, as an IQ obsessive I'd take even CB4k on Pro/X over Stadia's native 4k with low quality single pass video compression.

Not available in my country, and my internet speed wouldn't be good enough anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just want to point out before we get too many of these "too much bandwidth" "most people can't use it" type posts, the EA cloud gaming service uses less bandwidth than my Netflix and the lag was no different than using my Steam link. I've no doubt that Stadia will be any different in either regard. I think the limitations for the average person are overstated by people who just don't like the idea of streaming games.

I have very fast unlimited internet but streaming so far has never worked for me somehow. Yet I'm cautiously intrigued by Stadia. Missed out on the founders Edition tho so I'll just wait for the first batch of testers and their respective opinions on the service.

The value proposition is too weak. Having to pay for the right to stream and buy the games on top of this is a greedy move by Google.

pretty sure we're going to see games load extremely fast on the new consoles with SSDs.
Oh I know that, but the OP indicates no load times on Stadia, which as far as I'm aware isn't possible unless the games been designed with that in mind?
Current games will still need to load, regardless of SSDs at the moment.

No way, even at launch, next gen games still look noticably better than previous gen. Killzone Shadowfall and Ryse certainly look next gen compared to ps3/xbox360 games

I will test the free offer. While it's gonna be a new way to play game, commercially this enthusiasm is going to be heavily tempered by the distance, hardware and software relays and all kind of electromagnetic noise between user's modem and their TV, also by daily network congestion, and the peering behind their providers.

GeForce Now or Shadow PC are here for years but stayed as a (great but) niche solution, and even in Japan, neither Capcom or Ubisoft have (for now) decided to put more games than RE7 and ACO at disposal for Japanese Switch users, something that I saw like a "test" about streaming appealing (but maybe not a good one).
