This is the long term discussion thread for the Star Citizen community.

--- Getting Started
BoredGamer's quick start video is a good place to start:

The official support site's getting started guide was recently updated with lots of useful links:

What is Star Citizen? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaJx4TdshFA
A good short intro (3:27)
Star Citizen is the MMO, Squadron 42 is the single player campaign.

What can we currently do in this game?
Summary here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/feature-list

Roadmap: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/roadmap/board/

Free Flight demo periods are often available around events, which let anyone create a free account and try out the different ships and game modes.

You can get a base package for either the MMO (Star Citizen) or the single player portion (Squadron 42) for $45, and from there you can add the other piece for $20 ($65 total).
Star Citizen option: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/fly-now
Squadron 42 option: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Squadron-42-Standalone-Pledge
They sometimes have discounts available around events, in the ballpark of $10 off.

Do we have a clan/guild/whatever?
Yup! They're called orgs in Star Citizen. We have an active Discord and a well established fleet.
Sign up here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/E503/
After applying, please verify by posting your SC username here or sending a PM to one of the listed officers.

What ship should I get?
For the best bang for your buck, I'd just recommend getting the base game package if you're interested in backing early. The org already has a ton of ships with seats to fill and loaner ships to go around to help get people get up to speed at launch.

Jaaz has put together some ship guide threads to get discussion started over on Spectrum:
Combat 1 (fighters, bombers, etc) / Combat 2 (capital)
Competition
Exploration
Industrial
Support
Transport
Overview and recommendations

Can it be true that a new update is finally releasing soon? 2014 took long enough to arrive!

First page, let me be the first to say...

Star Citizen is the only game that will let me grow Space Cacti in my ship.

JPEG ship...

no we're not doing that here.

I was getting worried we wouldn't have a thread for CitCon.

Yes, the space cactus empire must expand beyond the confines of the UEE. We must bring knowlege of this wonder plant to the unwashed alien masses.

Hey guys! Lookin' forward to hanging out in the new pad. The wait continues for 3.0 public launch, it does look good though!

I look forward to this thread eventually reaching the same frustrating cyclical nature of the previous.

We're a community thread now, we won't be reminding every Star Citizen troll about it's existence every time we post anymore.

Don't worry, the trolls will create troll threads. It is just what they do. Hopefully we won't see any this early. Maybe it will take some time for them to visit.

Honestly, it'll be strange posting in a SC thread again. Used to post so much, but now the concept seems foreign lol.

I can't say that I'm thrilled about an $850 ship, and Friday is already packed with a lot of things to play, see, and do (two tests + Super Mario Odyssey make watching CitizenCon a harsh proposition), but I am really curious about what the Pioneer ends up being. I hope colonization doesn't end up meaning three more years until the "final" gameplay loop is established.

Just think of it as expanding that one part of the economy. That's presumable already there. Though i don't think many are gonna to be using the Pioneer much. But that doesn't matter because player usage doesn't determine the final worth of the ship/game mechanic. In regards to the economy itself. Due to npc population. So i don't think it will hold anything back.

Yeah, I wish the Pioneer was delayed until at least after 3.0 general availability, but CIG marketing apparently disagrees. As for the dev time implications, one can only hope it doesn't impact the timeline too much. If this ship does indeed turn out to be base building and such, I'd much prefer it to come after the game is released. There's already so many game systems for CIG to juggle, and none of them seem to inherently depend on user-controlled base building. Adding one more thing into the alpha soup just seems to be asking for trouble.

Don't think it's gonna to be put into 3.0 though.

Is there a discord community for the SC folks too? Or you guys referring to the official one.
There's a discord that us members of the ex-[NEOGAF] org use. We've since reformed under [E503] and continue to use the same Discord.

Edit:
Don't think it's gonna to be put into 3.0 though.
I meant more delay the sale, not the ship itself to post 3.0 general availability. I highly doubt the ship itself will be ready during any of the 3.X cycle releases.

Hi everyone, just to confirm, I received a mail with the new org E503, is this the new org name for this forum?, anyway, good to see that the dream is not dead yet, only delayed.
