Just a reminder that it might be a good idea to watch the The Brightest Star Shot Trek episode before tonight's episode if you haven't gotten around to watching it or the Short Treks in general. It's 15 minutes long. On CBS AA there is a Short Treks section in the Star Trek Discovery section. They're under the trailers section on Netflix for those outside of the US/Canada. Not sure about how Crave has them listed.

Where our first info on the horrific predator race is that their super advanced tech just has bits fall off occasionally.

I swear there was a popular newsgroup post in the '90s that resolved Best of Both Worlds with that scenario.

From what I remember of it, the Borg eventually succumb to a combination of the Solitaire CPU bug, the Windows Plus add-on pack, and microsoft's legal team.

Haha. It certainly looks like it. Long overdue I think.

Another great episode. I was not expecting them to flip the situation the way they did. The horror was strong this episode and I think Trek really should lean into that more.
I still would like to know what the Baul truly look like. I assume their current form we saw was the result of them fighting back in the past. Even then that might be a disguise.

I'm amazed someone got the reference. Bravo.

Yes, in it the Borg keep adapting to updates with more memory, just for the next update to use up the extra memory, until finally MS lawyers swarm the cube because it was a pirated windows copy.

I liked this one a lot though I could see why some might have issues.

Resolving the conflict by triggering a biological change in an entire species - in the space of five minutes - is a bit much, but I'll roll with something like that in my genre fiction. The sphere giving them an encyclopedia of galactic history is a bit much too, but whatever, that's happened before.

Not enough Culber to really get a sense of what's going on there. And chill, Stamets, he's been through some stuff.

The sound design on the Baul device after they walked away and when it activated was soooo good. Chilling.
Same with that awesome digital voice.

Yeah, gotta give him some time, buddy.

I wonder how much of sassy Saru will remain.. Pike was pretty patient with him
Agreed. Sassy Saru was pretty interesting, but he'll need to integrate it better, heh. Don't really blame him though due to the situation and that it was all new to him. Yeah, Pike really was pretty patient with him.

Yeah the digital voice was really well done

I liked this one a lot though I could see why some might have issues.
I thought it was hilarious when Pike raised the question of General Order 1 and Burnham had a counter argument on the tip of her tongue ready to go Pike essentially just says 'Damn you smartasses'

I think if a warp civilization is already influencing another species all that stuff goes out the window anyhow though.

Another great episode, the Baul look scary af, love the design, not every alien needs to look like a human with a deformed head. Also anyone notice that Owo and Detmer seem to exchange looks every episode? It's kinda funny at this point. I liked the twist even though I suspected it was something like that.

I've really grown to love Micheal and Sarus relationship and I hope we get to learn more about what was in that sphere.

So the red angel has a suit of some kind and it seems to confirm time travel of some sort....ugh I hope they don't go all temporal agents on us.

It's not even really that useful considering how old it is, stuff from 50-100 thousand years ago would be completely irrelevant.

Anyways next weeks look great again, I think we finally see spock as he was in the trailer.

Y'all remember the Sheliak from Star Trek TNG? They used to terrify me as a kid.

They ain't scary no more, friends. The Ba'ul make the Sheliak look like Ferengi.

The jump in quality between the two seasons cannot be emphasized enough. For me, Season 1 had a handful of good episodes at best. Again, it wasn't an abjectly awful season, but it was so rough in so many places.

Season 2, literally every episode has been hitting the mark. I felt like I was watching a mass effect storyline unfold, like curing the Krogans of the genophage. (and yes, I know ME is the one who took inspiration from Star Trek, so I know it isn't copying ME, but I experienced ME first so I feel the similarities from ME's direction)

And also lets again point out how fucking amazing the show looks. I can't imagine what this must be costing CBS to air every week.

This episode was fucking great. The character design of the Ba'ul looked like something from a horror movie.

The show has come a long way fleshing out its interpersonal dynamics. Some wonderful exposition in this episode. Was nice to see Saru and Siranna reconnect.

I really hope they have a worthwhile plot to flesh out when it comes to the Red Angel though instead of it being a time travelling deus ex machina.

This may have been my favorite episode yet. I feel like I've been saying that every single new episode but they really are getting better and better with each episode. The only slightly weak episode for me this season was episode 3 but beyond that, this season has been purely awesome so far and of course next week looks like it will continue that trend.

I thought this was the best episode of the season so far though I do have a minor nitpick, there's no way Discovery's shields weren't up when Saru beamed back to save his sister.

They talked about that on Reddit... we've never actually seen someone beam out when shields are up, right? Maybe it was just shield harmonics that needed to be known?

Good episode.

When Saru said "Discovery will save us", while the audience knew that the Bridge crew only moments ago concluded they could not target all the Pylons, I thought we were about to witness the end of the Kelpian race and a new character arc for Saru, triggering anger towards Pike and Starfleet for not doing enough.

The writing certainly suggested Saru would be heading for conflict on this. Would have been interesting.

Yo we anime.
That red angel appearance gave me goosebumps. In a good way.

I was ready to be disappointed by Bha ul appearance (budget and all) but nope.

The Bha ul look exceeded my expectations

Fantastic episode all round. One of the best across both seasons, and up there with the better stuff from TNG/DS9 for me.

Visually it looked great but holy cow those plot holes.

Let's put aside the ethics of planetary-wide genetic manipulation of a sentient species that's guaranteed to eradicate their culture. We have plenty of historical examples of what happens when an oppressed populace turns against a superior-armed ruling elite. Sometimes it ends up for the better, often times for the worse. Never has it resulted in the two groups learning to peacefully coexist with each other.

I enjoy the fuck out of these episodes.

And then completely zone out for the last 10 to 15 minutes of them.

They're too long, the pacing is shit, they need to start forcing the creators to make 42 minute network-length episodes ASAP.

This was AWESOME, classic trek goodness.

Pike talking to the ba'ul gave me huge Mass Effect vibes, loved it

Cool design too for the ba'ul
