I've just watched the last episode and a note for Pike: big lightweight handles can easily be pulled from outside the room with an improvised rope (say, by tying one sleeve of a Starfleet uniform to it and pulling on the other one). Just, you know, an alternative to blowing perfectly serviceable people up.
If we're going to list every instance where writing overrode logic for the sake of drama, especially in any trek ever, we'll be here all year.

Like, just out it on a 5 second delay and run out.

Discovery became the most popular streaming tv show in the world

According to Parrot Analytics, a data analytics firm who measure demand for TV shows across the globe, Star Trek: Discovery season 2 was a measurable hit. Between April 6 and May 5 - the season 2 finale, "Such Sweet Sorrow", released on April 18 - Star Trek: Discovery was the most in-demand digital original series worldwide. Further, it was the #2 science-fiction series worldwide, narrowly beaten by The 100.

  1. Star Trek: Discovery
  2. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  3. Cobra Kai
  4. The Grand Tour
  5. Doom Patrol
  6. Narcos
  7. Stranger Things
  8. The Umbrella Academy
  9. The Handmaid's Tale
  10. The Act

At this point I'm pretty sure everybody wants that show. The actors are perfect for it, might even prefer it over Discovery. I am excited about the change next season though.

Is Star Trek: Discovery a good jumping-on point, or will I be lost if I've never seen anything Star Trek before? Trailer looked interesting, and it has quite some actors I like. But I've ever only seen the first hour of Star Trek 2009.

You can jump right in, some characters return from the original show but who they are is all explained.

Very easy to jump into it. You'll recognize some things and characters, especially if you've seen the first hour of Star Trek 2009 but no previous Trek viewing is at all required. Plenty of people have watched the show without seeing anything Trek related before or focusing on anything Trek related and have enjoyed the just fine, even love it.

A little tip as well. Ignore anything Youtube related that isn't on the official Star Trek channel though to be safe. A LOT of youtube is filled with alt-right, sexist, racist garbage when it comes to Star Trek, especially Star Trek Discovery unfortunately. While forums aren't free of it, even here, you're better off seeking out forums and podcast. That's where a large part of the decent fanbase is located. Hell even the star trek reddit is better then the cesspool youtube has become in regard to star trek.

It's probably a perfect jumping on point for Star Trek. I've watched enough Trek to get the gist of it but I didn't fall in love with Starfleet until I watched Discovery and now I'm binge watching The Next Generation.

Definitely give Star Trek: Discovery a try, it's great.

I finally caught up and for the most part enjoyed the second season. I too would like a Pike series, perhaps with that show being more like classic or TNG trek. There were definitely some issues I have but my minds racing with all the processing of what just happened. I don't particularly enjoy all the action but must say those space battles wee gorgeous. My biggest issue has and always probably will be the Terran Emperor being a recurring one dimensional character that seems to not show remorse, grow much as a character, and seems to stand against everything the federation stands for. I mean she is pretty much Space Hitler and it just reminds me how poorly Sci fi and fantasy treat alien and nonhuman races as substitutes for actual racial minorities. Padme and the genocide of Sand People in Star Wars comes to mind, the complete dismissal of what should be a terrible act because we aren't expected to relate them to humanity.

Anyway, I had no idea there were those Short Trek episodes so I watched all of them recently too, I knew something was wrong when the recap showed some Queen character I had never seen before. I thought I missed an episode until I googled the episode and found others also confused. The Short Treks are also unavailable on Android Netflix which was a pain.

Posted this in the other Trek thread but figured I'd post it here as well.

Title of the new show has been announced.

Star Trek: Picard.

First still was shown as well.

Just finished Season 2 and thought it was pretty solid overall. I guessed who the Red Angel was several episodes before the reveal (well the second reveal, the first one was a surprise I hadn't expected).

Sadly, I think the shorter episode seasons does make fleshing out some of the side characters difficult. I liked that they fleshed out the cyborg lady, but then killing her off was a bummer.

Thought the last two episodes got a bit boring, just a ton of techno-babble and a battle that went on for a really really long time.
Was also a little confused that they went so hard with the Enterprise and Spock at the finale and completely left Discovery's fate hanging. I thought for sure we'd get a tiny little stinger of them in the future to set up the next season (maybe end it like season 1 but have the Enterprise J or whatever one it is in the future they went too).

I also hope in season 3 they start to tone down the lens flares and Dutch angles. I don't kind them here or there, but they just do them ALL THE TIME and it's gotten a bit distracting for me.
Wow that's stupid, CBS needs to put those short treks front and center if they are going to involve stories from the season.
I thought the same thing about the Short that they tied into the show at the second to last episode.

I'd read about the short but never actually watched them. I guess the end of Discovery also explains why that Calypso short takes place in the future, right?

I was also expecting a way more specific Borg connection, but I appreciated that they never actually specified that they were or not. Like even though it did take over people with nanites, it's main goal was never specifically assimilation, it was just the fairly standard Scifi "AI designed to be benelovent decides that the only way for peace is to kill every everything" at least thats what it seemed like.

We don't know if it'll tie in to Calypso specifically but yeah Disco goes roughly to the same time period Calypso takes place so we'll see.

Look like what I'd expect cadet uniforms to look like, but they're also similar to the designs in the Countdown graphic novel.

Oh you're right.

Note, those are essentially the Star Trek Online default uniforms.

Doesn't seem like some folks here have seen this yet; I posted it in the Star Trek franchise OT a few days ago.

I don't remember who originally got the scoop on this but it's been all over twitter.

Interesting that Starfleet reverted to that style, unless the darker tones they used were simply a wartime fad... Or it's a flashback/time travel. Either way, awesome.

Yeah, there's a distinct seam in the shoulder area that looks like the Sierra outfits. And the collar is different from the DS9 outfits, which didn't go that high.

It feels like they split the difference between the Sierra and DS9/Voyager outfits, since they're not quite either of them.

The Sierra uniforms (what the game calls them) are based off of the Countdown one as to be the primary uniform of the latter 24th century, until the official shift (for game continuity anyway) to the Odyssey uniform around 2409/2410. So while I suspect it's most likely an implicit canonisation of the comic - given Kurtzman's involvement, why not? - whether or not it suggests a longterm build towards the game is far less clear.

I suppose part of the question will be whether or not Picard (the show) will be used to cap off the particular era - aesthetically, stylistically, and in-universe - TNG began, or if it would be used to spearhead more sequels in its wake. If the former, then it's easier to leave the early 25th century to be STO's 'thing', however many retcons it may involve. If the latter, then even if production staff cared about keeping the game even pseudo-canonical - which they very easily could not - then that just comes with the baggage of a load of plotlines that aren't supposed to get resolved because the player character is meant to deal with them. I doubt many would be eager to work within that kind of constraint, just as the folks over at Disney very quickly decided they'd prefer a fresh slate for post-RotJ.

Doesn't look like the Sierra thingies, just like a changed version of the Voy/DS9 uniforms... Or like a worse version, don't really dig the collar, is the AC too strong or what?... Prefer the grey ones...
