I think I found the link about that video on Twitter. My YouTube timeline is filled with UFO stuff, so I clearly have better taste.
Anyway what caught my eye was the comment about Sonequa Martin-Green having "enjoyed" (past tense) her relationship with the crew. Pike leaving the show wouldn't be a shock, as I commented last week, but using Burnham's relationship with the show in past tense suggests a conclusion (then again if she left the show, that would be a plus in my mind).
The rumoured 150 cost of the show. Variety reported a while ago that episodes in Season 1 were estimated to be around 8 million USD. I don't know if TV production costs are as simple as multiply each figure by the number of episodes, but suffice to say, it does bring up an interesting question of financial feasibility. Netflix may cover the first season, and even the second, but if CBS' grand ambitions to get to 4 million All-Access subscribers this year does not work, is Netflix going to finance this show itself? If Netflix are not financing Season 2, or to a lesser degree, then it certainly underlines the CBS subscription number even more so.
The idea of a show's fate being based on the success of fans subscribing to a specific digital platform to stream it....that's really harsh. Trek needs to be on network TV.
It was always expected that the Captain Pike/Spock/Enterprse storyline was a one season long deal that would wrap up by seasons end. They strongly implied this in the season 2 premiere but it was always kind of a given due to the season long story arc structure of the show. So yes Anson Mount is finished with Star Trek: Discovery and is now "unemployed". Same with Ethan Peck. Their stories were only for this season and filming finished some time ago.
It would be pretty brave of CBS to cancel Discovery which means they would cancel the other Trek shows as well and there has been no evidence of this what with Patrick Stewart and others discussing the new shows on a weekly bases and it's highly unlikely that Discovery would be shit canned and the other shows green lit as that would not send a good message to the subscribers who stuck with CBS All-Access for Discovery not to mention Discovery has always been heralded as their flagship show. To cancel it after 2 seasons when they have nearly no other compelling content for CBS All-Access would signify that they don't have much faith in their own streaming service. My opinion is this then; If they cancel Star Trek: Discovery then they might as well shut down CBS All-Access and move the rest of their projects to CBS or elsewhere. I don't think any of this will happen.
CBS may very well not be satisfied with Discovery's numbers but they also know that success and launching a new streaming service takes time and content and they need the content and they need the trust from the few supporters that they DO have now. Even if they are losing some money with Discovery it still may be in their best interest to continue onwards with it at least for another season or two. Maybe as CBS All-Access grows it's userbase, shows, etc then more people will tune into future seasons of Discovery as well.
Also if Discovery was such a massive flop then why go out of their way to give Kurtzman a huge 25 million dollar contract and announce all of these new Star Trek shows (none of this happened until well after season one came and gone). Wouldn't make sense to go all in on Star Trek if the first season was such a failure.
Also even if Netflix isn't happy with their current contract with CBS, doesn't mean they can't renegotiate. Still pay a decent amount toward the show but perhaps a little less or some other deal.
Also lets not forget that Star Trek: Discovery came in at 4th most watched family show on Netflix of 2017. I hardly think those are bad numbers...

As far as the trolls are concerned? They hate the show SO much that many of them are trying to convince themselves that the show is a flop and/or canceled because they want this to happen so bad. Some of these channels have videos going up and all hours suggesting many of these people don't hold jobs and have no life. These are people that don't contribute anything back to society but have the audacity to shit on other peoples work. We have a word for that; Losers.
It's one thing to dislike a show or product. We all like and dislike things, myself included but it's people that sit there and put a legitimate effort spamming, shitting up fan communities, releasing false information as fact, etc that differentiates between someone who simply does not like a product and someone who is simply put a troll.
Some of these people REALLY hate Star Trek: Discovery simply because they are trying to do something new with an outdated franchise. I love all of the old Star Treks. I own all of it on the best possibly formats but I also like the fact that Discovery feels fresh and new while still honoring what came before it. Some people though are so bothered by this that they are legitimately losing sleep and have become so obsessed with destroying the show simply because it's not what THEY want. They don't like other people enjoying it and they will stop at nothing to try and ruin other people from enjoying it. Honestly many of these people realistically need mental help but that's a topic I won't delve into.
Bottom line is this: If you enjoy the show, keep enjoying it, keep discussing it. The good and the bad. Be constructive in your criticisms and in return your opinions will likely be respected (or should be). For those who don't like Star Trek: Discovery. Good news! There are many past Star Trek shows you can still enjoy and there are other Star Trek shows in development so maybe one of those will scratch that Trek itch you might have. Or... there is always the Orville as well. :)
