They already have footage of her in the hospital bed from TLJ, no doubt they have a few alternate takes of her reacting to Luke reaching out to her.

Watching the movie it's going to be obvious where they have pulled the footage from but hopefully they can make it work.
They also filmed new scenes with Bill Lourde acting as a stand-in where they cgi'ed Carrie on top of her.

Jason Ward says they have a voice double who is recording new dialogue for Leia (and he said he heard the same voice double recorded some of the dialogue for TLJ because Carrie died before she did ADR for it and no one even noticed so he expects it to not stand out at all, vocally at least.)

New art from Brian Rood covering the whole trilogy:

That Luke kissing Leia is the only kiss that makes it in the trilogy art shows how low on romance ST is. I suspect it's partly an attempt to distance themselves from PT and partly the pressure to not have a heroine that's romantically involved.

That trailer description, if true, sounds incredibly hype!

But also very controversial if Sidious is shown in the flesh. That's basically all people are going to talk about... how can Sidious still be alive.

I've got my issues with the ST (mostly due to JJ making the galaxy parallel the OT at the beginning (although Star Wars Resistance helped somewhat by explaining the state of the galaxy at the time), plus now it's looking like the Galaxy post-ST will look much the same as it did and the end of the OT), but imagine going back in time ten years and showing yourself this picture. I'd of been so hyped, and that's without Rebels, Resistance, The Mandalorian, Rogue One, Solo, etc.

Triple Force Friday, the new trailer, and presumably tickets pre-sell once the trailer debuts. Begun the marketing push has.

Two things!

1.) So has MSW’s stuff about Matt Smith being possessed by Palpatine and all that jazz ended up debunked? I haven’t seen it mentioned in some time, and now it seems likelier and likelier that Palpatine is alive and kicking in (very decrepit) flesh.

2.) I know he’s far from the most popular character in the canon, but it’s disappointing that we’ve seen zero mention of the return of DJ. As far as I’m concerned, that’s an open thread. I’d settle for Finn killing the guy Boba Fett style — just do something to even that score!

Yup. Other speculation was that at one point, the plot could have been that after he siphons the lifeforce from Rey and Kylo, Matt Smith would've portrayed a younger, rejuvenated Palpatine. Like an interpretation of what Sheev might have looked like in his late 30s.

Where that leaves Smith in the final movie is anyone's guess. Maybe he's not even in it at all.

Heh, wow. It will be kinda funny if Matt’s got no place in the film after all, given how convinced the fandom has been of otherwise!

Not every character needs to be recurring, DJ had a role and his role is over. He showed Finn what he could have turned into if he had chosen to be cynical and keep running rather than take a stand. There is no need for him to come back.

Agree to disagree. I get where you’re coming from and if this were a different franchise I might very well be the one saying that. But this is Star Wars. In my opinion, it simply doesn’t feel “right” for a Star Wars antagonist to waltz off smugly and richer without some form of reckoning.

I'm with Ushojax . I think that making room for everyone is one of SW undoings. if a character doesn't have a place in a particular movie, by all means bench him/her and then bring them back when there's a story. marvel does that all the time. They didn't bring Thor to Civil War for the sake of having all Avengers there nor they put Hawkeye in Infinity War despite being one of the original 6. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but given negative reactions to Canto Bight, I think that TLJ would have benefited from keeping Finn in coma (since the movie picked up right after TFA and covered 2 days tops) and then giving him more to do in TROS. Instead, the character completed the same character arc yet again and is now reduced to following Rey and Poe and then Jannah around by the sound of leaks. Likewise, it seems that there's no real place for Rose and that she's back only due to backlash against online bullying of Kelly Tran. So I'm really pro shelving characters for the time being if the story really doesn't need them instead of forcing them into the story with everyone noticing they were forced in it and didn't really contribute.

I've got a feeling his role is a small cameo in the same vein as Daniel Craig in TFA

Someone probably saw him on set at some point and kickstarted the wild rumours

With respect, Comrade Dyatlov, I feel like Marvel has so much more breathing room on that front because it isn’t limited to a trilogy. If that’s how the films with our new heroes operated, well, I’d be thrilled.

Marvel has more breathing room because they created breathing room. ST is cluttering the movies with characters who, frankly, overstayed their welcome because their character arcs ended in the first movie (Finn) and second movie (Poe, Rose). Point being, if a character is done growing, leave them out or limit their screen time. Jason Ward says that Poe practically has no character arc whatsoever in TROS. yet based on leaks, he's tagging along because they are afraid to Mon Mothma him, even though that's what he really is now. And they even created a new character (Zorii) to give him some background that apparently plays no role in the movie and is just a throwaway reference. See what I mean? Not only they have nothing of note for the character who's still getting significant chunk of screen time, despite having nothing impactful to do, but they added a new character to support that existing low-impact character. Etc. In a movie that's already overflowing.

Man you sure seem upset about a movie we have no actual information on in terms of story outside the main force plot. Maybe...maybe just wait?

Ward said Poe is like Han in ROTJ. You sort of took that and ran with it to quite an over the top extreme here.

Proclaiming Zorii plays no role based off vague plot details is nonsense. I mean we have toys of her flying a Y wing with Poe. There is a lot more than just vague plot details that mostly only even cover the Force storyline.

Han in ROTJ is a prime example of character who completed his arc in the previous movie(s) but they felt like having to keep him around or some fans would riot. So in the end, fans who would riot said the character was useless and the actor sleepwalked his way to paycheck. happens every time.

Zorii flying a ship in order to take down some TIEs because space battle is not something you need a special new character for. And we know from leaks that, thanks to Mothership Trope, they can't win unless mothership is taken down. So Finn does another FO infiltration for that's his singular skill, infiltrating FO again and again and again.

of course, if the leaks are bogus than all this goes to toilet but I think there's enough evidence they are real and don't lack as many details and connective tissues as some fans hope.

yep. In JP version, FG Luke and FG Leia appear to help Rey defeat palpatine. Actual quote from the leak:

" Having returned to full strength, Palpatine then shoots lightning into Ben, forcing him to fall into a bottomless abyss, never to be seen again. Sideous then shoots lightning into the sky at Resistance ships. He reportedly continues to make statements about how Rey will join him. In defiance of this, Rey grabs both Anakin’s and Leia’s lightsabers and Palpatine turns his wrath on her. It’s lightsaber vs. lightning at this point and when it seems like all hope is lost for Rey, the spectors of Luke and Leia come to her aid. They jointly work toward overpowering the Emperor, deflecting his lightning back toward himself, killing him and unleashing an explosion powerful enough to make the arena start to crumble around them. Darth Sideous, the last of the Sith Lords, is finally dead. "

However, JW says this is not how it goes anymore and that instead of helping Rey, FG only revive her after Palpatine drains the Force from the dyad (rey and kylo):

" The final confrontation of the Skywalker Saga takes place on the dead world of Exogol. Darth Sidious has thrown Ben Solo into the abyss. I have heard Ben falls into the mist, much like Han Solo’s death in The Force Awakens and it visually rhymes. I believe this happens after Rey and Ben are drained by Darth Sidious. In the end, Rey weakened and seemingly alone for the final confrontation.

The rejuvenated Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, projects Sith lightning into the heavens above from his fingertips believing Rey to be incapacitated. Rey, however, is revitalized by the Jedi who lived before her for the final confrontation with Palpatine. She slowly begins to rise as Palpatine zaps the Resistance fleet with his torrent of lightning.

Darth Sidious is ready to retake his place as Galactic Emperor when Rey interrupts the Sith’s victory and stands before her grandfather.
The restored Rey catches Darth Sidious’ attention and he is forced to stop his stream of Sith lightning. The Resistance fleet recovers, powers back on, and the fight against Sith fleet above Exogol ensues. Rey buys the fleet just enough time for the Millennium Falcon to show up with reinforcements for the final epic space battle.
Just as Darth Sidious lowers his hands and stops attacking the fleet above. The Sith Lord looks to Rey and angrily blasts his lightning towards his granddaughter. Rey ignites Leia and Anakin Skywalker’s lightsabers and deflects her grandfather’s attack."

In his pods, JW is positive that FG only help revive Rey and do not engage Palaptine with her or on her behalf. So that's the change. I prefer this version because it flows with "this is your fight". FG Luke and FG Leia fighting Palpatine by her side would be a terrible fan service.

Hot damn. I like this even more. I was cool with the initial concept, to be honest, but yeah. This is better in every sense -- and it still includes Luke and Leia in a meaningful manner.

I find it hilarious that some shirt or other piece of merchandise had Jedi Warrior Poe inscribed on it, and while I agree that it isn't a spoiler about Poe being/becoming a Jedi, I know that the same people who dismiss it as a marketing error would take it as a rock solid proof if it was Finn's name. Now if Finn's on another shirt they can't say it suddenly means Jedi Finn when they denied Jedi Poe. It's classic fandom choose and pick. It's happening with these leaks too. people accept what supports their headcanon, reject the rest and then try to fit their headcanon into the partial story. Even though it obviously doesn't fit. So, no, Rey Palaptine is not a placeholder for Rey Skywalker/Solo since the story as it is doesn't make sense if she was anything but Rey Palpatine, Ben is not going to be miraculously revived at the end after being healed midway through (that's simply not how the narrative work - it's bad enough that they are sparing a character they are going to kill a little later but double healing is not going to happen). Etc.

I know it's just a Topps card and doesn't mean anything, but I wonder if Sheev will give Kylo a Darth title.

Hopefully Darth Caedus

I stopped following the leaks a little bit so I didn't hear Rey already revives him midway into the movie. Yeah, he's definitely not being revived at the end if that happens.

My ideal endpoint for these characters is:
- Rey leading a new order from the foundations of the empire that she's inherited, and founding the Imperial Knights. Rey becomes a benevolent Empress.
- Ben is stripped of the Force by the Emperor and lives in exile, but starting a new Jedi Order in honour of Luke teaching new students
- Rose has the Force
- The Falcon goes back to Lando, and Jannah
- Anakin deals the final blow to the Emperor

This is a joke right?
It's an old Legends name, the Jedi who fell to the dark side and restarted the Sith around 2000 BBY. Lucas had intended for the Sith to split from the Jedi at that point, but the EU had already had them around for thousands of years prior, so they had to have the Sith get defeated, then have Lucas' unnamed Jedi heretic bring them back. And that became Darth Ruin.

Well, now we know why Lando didn't show up to help in TLJ (he was stuck on Pasana), so what's Wedge's excuse?

If a trailer was happening tomorrow we'd probably get some announcement on Twitter ... looks like the 14th is the earliest possibility at this point.

I mean, what's more creatively-bereft; revisiting a classic old location for your film that already has a bunch of thematic ties to ROTJ, or creating a new hideout planet with the same biome?

My God JJ, why are you so uncreative with planets?

The jungle planet isn't Yavin IV, it's Ajan Kloss.
Whilst I agree that JJ is uncreative with planets, it wouldn't make sense for the Resistance to hide out on Yavin IV, given that the First Order very likely knows of the Massassi base as it's not something the relics of the Empire would forget in a hurry. It's the same reason why they wouldn't go back to D'Qar or Hoth.

This, plus the FO likely knows now to look out for old Rebel bases after what happened on Crait.
