The only "setup" is the Opera Scene in RotS and that's not even directly related to how Palpatine comes back, as far as we know.

The OT was a complete story, there was nothing even remotely setting up Palpatine surviving in it.
Yea he's def talking about cheating death and him maybe having a hand in Rey's origins.

I sincerely hope she isn't his biological granddaughter though.

So I got up to date on the ACT III leak.

There is um... A lot of stuff happening in this film.

There is some sort of feeling deep down that is convinced J.J. is going to pull this off and its going to be awesome.

"The heart of Star Wars for me is the group of unlikely bedfellows on a breakneck adventure," says Abrams. "And in Rise Of Skywalker it's the biggest and most dastardly threat the galaxy has seen. The opportunity here was to have this group that has now become a surrogate family have to deal with this massive horror: the war to end all wars. Not just on the outside, but one the inside, which is to say it's meant to be as much of a challenge personally as it is physically." - JJ Abrams

Rey is sooo a Palpatine.

Hmmm. Some inconsistencies happening here
Also, D-O's toy description fits MSW's new post where originally the leaks said D-O was found on the abandoned ship on Pasana

Honestly at this point I dont even know haha

There's too much to keep track of at this point
Then Leia and Luke were there as Force ghosts to defeat Sidious. Now they're not there.... but just voices?

But now they're there at the end on Tatooine with Rey ... but her parents were there at one point but now they're not. Now her parents are killed on Jakku ... even though it's kinda canon that Rey isn't originally from Jakku

I thought the original claim with DO was that he was Zorii's droid, then it was that he was from Babu Frik's workshop on Kijimi, and now it's that he's from Ochie's ship.

Anyway, I'll be disappointed in the Force ghosts don't show up at the end.

Both Paxis and Ward said the final confrontation was part of the reshoots so how the confrontation goes being all over the map in spoilers is sort of expected.

Can you imagine the rage if Rey defeats Palpatine on her own?

Actually, I'd be pretty pissed too. Sheev only deserves the full cavalry against him.

Why not? This should be Rey's story. Anakin got his trilogy and so did Luke. Rey deserves the same

Because Sheev deserves a better death.

Frankly, I didn't like his demise in ROTJ either. It's a great emotional moment for Vader, but knowing how powerful Sheev is in canon, he went out like a punk.

That scene is perfection to me. Vader is more powerful than him anyway. But I hate power levels talk too!!

I was more than happy to see the Emperor fall to his death... into a nuclear reactor... which then EXPLODED.

I mean, that was such overkill. I haven't seen a death that overly executed since The Naked Gun.

I am conflicted on force ghosts blowing up Palps. I think it'd be a wonderful visual but I also think it would be clearly JJ appeasing those upset about Luke not being badass enough in TlJ lol.

Rather than having her featured during the Palps confrontation, saving Leia's ghost for the finale on Tatooine does make a modicum of sense. It''d be her closing resolution that she was able to master Luke's final lesson and successfully cross over.

Having her initially appear during the fight would prematurely rob us of that reveal and the emotional weight.

I'm still hedging my bets on it being a Dark Empire retread, with the ghost Jedi stopping Palps from further reincarnations, after realising that's how he keeps surviving. If not, then where the hell were they all in RotJ?

It also brings the whole series together if Palpatine's whole shtick was to create the perfect host in Anakin. It would even work with the Rey thing, if it turns out he had a hand in her birth - even moreso if her father/mother was an Anakin who never made it off their proverbial Tatooine, because then she's not only the child of "nobodies", but of nobodies who failed to live up to their potential.

Hell, you could even throw in something about Palps trying clones, as a jab at the EU, but them not working out, so he went for the whole homunculus jig instead XD

If ghost Luke and Leia fighting the Emperor is cut it doesn't make sense to make the Luke and Leia lightsaber dueling flashback the beginning of the movie.

I've only read the detailed first act leak (though obviously I'm unopposed to skipping through comments about the other acts). I'm loosely familiar with the goings-on later in the movie.

The Rise of Skywalker may prove equally as divisive as The Last Jedi, but for separate reasons. I may have to avoid the internet for a couple of months again...

...because I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it.

Yes Palatine's heir destroying the Sith once and for all in the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga is going to be HUGELY controversial

Having a Palpatine be the one to finally end all the madness of the Skywalker family is certainly a twist.
I mean even if Rey takes on the name Skywalker it is meaningless as far as bloodlines go. Palpatine fails ultimately but his bloodline does continue on and who knows maybe Rey jr. or another down the line feels that Palpatine darkside pull

The back of the head can be removed for the C-3PO Black Series figure, which supports the mind wipe part from the Paxis leak. Or the red eyes.

Jason's sources have seen (multiple versions of) this month's trailer, its narrative centerpiece apparently being the scene where Kylo meets Sheev early on in the film:

Worth noting is this suspiciously-similar description posted to the speculation sub a week ago:

Don't ask how I saw it, I won't tell you. I'm going off memory and only saw it twice so not everything will be perfect. It will air on Monday Night Football after Force Friday.

Fast open like TLJ trailer. A strange massive cube hovers over an obsidian surface. Kylo Ren's shuttle flies towards it. Cut to black.

Kylo: Why have you brought me here?

Shot of Sith Fleet. Cut to black.

Palpatine: To offer you unlimited power.

Shot of Sith troopers. Cut to black.

Kylo: What do you want from me?

Shot of Kylo with his back turned facing something in a dark room obstructed by his silhouette and purple light. Cut to black.

Palpatine: Just bring me the girl.

Up close shot on Kylo Ren. Cut to black.

Kylo: who are you?

Up close shot of Palpatine sitting up in bed, hood over his head. He looks frail. He laughs.

Up close shot of Rey waking up, panicked.

Lucasfilm.

Rey, training in a Forest with Leia.

Rey: I keep having these dreams.

Quick flash of Poe, Finn, Chewbacca and Threepio.

Rey: He's coming for me.

Poe and Finn looking ready to take on an army.

The Falcon evading TIE Fighters.

Rey embracing Leia.

Rey: It's too dangerous, I have to go alone.

Poe, Finn, Threepio, BB8, and Chewbacca all stand facing Rey who is just outside the Falcon. Chewbacca roars.

Threepio: He says we're going with you.

This Christmas.

Shot of Kylo Ren back in helmet marching down a ramp with knights in tow.

Shot of a huge explosion on the surface of a planet.

Shot of Poe looking concentrated in a cockpit.

Shot of Zorri removing her helmet.

Shot of Finn being grossed OT after a slug alien gets too close.

Shot of three people falling through sand.

The Saga

Shot of what looks to be an epic space battle.

Shot of Lando shooting a blaster.

Shot of Jannah and Finn riding over a hill on space horses.

Shot of Pryde surveying the Sith Fleet from a bridge.

Shot of the Pasana festival.

Shot of Kylo sitting down into his father's seat on the Falcon.

Comes to an End.

Shot of Rey holding the dagger.

Shot of Kylo grabbing Hux by the throat.

Shot of Threepio holding Chewbacca's bandolier and bow caster.

Shot of Rey in an absolute rage.

Shot of the Death Star Ruins.

Shot of Rey and Kylo fighting from afar.

Cut to black.

Slow fade in on Leia lying in a bed. She turns and looks.

I'm really hoping either MSW or JP eventually drop some definitive info on Rose's role in the film, because I'm not particularly keen on having to wait till release to find out whether she survives the big Act III battle or not.

Where are they getting all this Carrie Fisher footage from?

Where are they getting all this Carrie Fisher footage from?

They already have footage of her in the hospital bed from TLJ, no doubt they have a few alternate takes of her reacting to Luke reaching out to her.

Watching the movie it's going to be obvious where they have pulled the footage from but hopefully they can make it work.
