I really doubt her parents honored the last name Palpatine seeing how they fled into hiding. Not sure how using it would be honoring them.
The issue is, according to the leaks anyway, that Rey actually had good parents that seemingly died for her and didn't throw her away for drinking money. So it makes her taking on another family name problematic when her birth parents died to save her.

I am not sure how it's dishonoring them when they certainly did not honor their own family name.

Taking the family name would be dishonoring them more than anything.

Wonder if the ever changing force ghost stuff has to do with China and their rules on ghosts in movies? Would certainly explain why the climax seems to be in so much flux as they try to get that ending that can pass censors and not piss off fans
Probably not. China doesn't fuck with Star Wars anyway.
jason doesn't believe (his personal opinion not a scoop) that Ep IX is the end or even the end for Rey. kylo falls down the abyss and he thinks there will be a movie about what's down there. That there will be Rey Jedi movie, Rey jedi Academy movie whatever they decide to call it. In 3-4 years maybe. we may get one super movie but he thinks it's about milking it. How's Rey taking Skywalker name the end of Skywalker saga?
This movie sounds like hot garbage but Rey is still alright. I'll take more of her. Maybe more of Ben if his redemption is somehow earned.

If Jason's hunch is right and there's post-TRoS material on the way then that will basically be the best news in ages as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to say goodbye. I am kind of doubtful about this (I'm expecting something more along the lines of a "Finn and Rose" show or something on Disney+ at most, if that) but I'd love to be mistaken.

I'm interested in post-IX content particularly if Rey becomes some sort of Empress like Ciri in The Witcher.

Rey wouldn't accept a role like that, but I think an interesting twist would be if Palpatine loyalists found out she was his granddaughter and sought to force her into it.

Perfect time for the traditional Skywalker losing a limb

I don't think that Skywalker losing a limb is random and applies to everyone. It had a meaning in OT because Luke's father was "more a machine than a man" so Luke's mechanical arm was a reminder of what he could become. It was very symbolic. Then in PT, they had to show how Anakin became "more a machine" so it was given. But Kylo symbolism isn't about becoming a machine. It has always been between a human and a monster. So he doesn't need to lose a limb for that wouldn't be symbolic and drive the point. It seems that they are going with scars which is a stronger symbol in this case.

Quinton I think that some continuation is given for they wouldn't introduce that many new characters in the last movie and keep them alive. Nor give Poe a Bargain Bin Han background that plays no role in the movie outside of a throwaway reference. That all strikes me as a set up for future content. Going by Marvel, which obviously has hierarchy of characters (who is streaming material, who is movie material), I'd say that young "Skywalkers" (Palpatine girl and Solo boy) are most likely safe from D+ and will be kept for movies only. Everyone else is fair game for that format.

Post EP IX they live happily ever after until the end of time, until we get the Sequel-Sequel Trilogy in ~30 years. It never ends!

If Episode IX ends with Rey sitting on a throne with legions of storm troopers bowing to her this will have all been worth it.

What's interesting is that they seem to be making a point in this one of how the First Order took the children of the rebellion for its stormtroopers, with Jannah being Lando's daughter and another former stormtrooper.

I'd love it if the Sith troopers were clones.

I've said it before, but I do like how the New Republic mirrors the idealism and follies of the Carter administration, which (after being only four years on from Nixon's Watergate scandal and his subsequent pardon by Ford) lead into three consecutive terms of Republican presidencies.

I just wanna say if The Oracle was all bullshit, I am very disappoint. Liked the idea/design of that alien. At this point, I'm beginning to doubt that any of these leaks are legit.

it wasn't BS. They just decided to use a different set for wayfinder, most likely because Disney employees who they use to test their movies didn't react positively. Phrase "audience would be confused" was thrown around to explain why the change so someone was confused obviously. And they tested 8 versions of endings so they do test movies like SW. At least internally.

It just sounds like a major thing to throw away. Was The Oracle supposed to be practical effects/puppet based?

I saw that report about the 8 endings. That's...alot.

Also wondering if we'll get any hint about how/if Palpatine truly survived the DS2. What was that line Ward claimed he spoke? "Not a clone? Not yet a man?" Not yet a man? How does that make any sense? Anyway, seems like that line may have been cut too?

December can't get here soon enough...

Yep, they need War to make movies. Peace is the death of this franchise. And they can't do "every 30 years someone fucks up rinse repeat".

I was hyped to see Matt Smith, but why would you use Matt Smith when Ian McDiarmid is stil able to play the role anyway?

I think that, originally, they wanted Palaptine actively fighting the dyad (even though they are no more called that) but decided against it in order to have more Ian. Matt Smith is young enough to convincingly fight Ridley-Driver duo.

I'm definitely happier with more Ian. Knowing me, I'd end up enjoying the alternative anyway, but McDiarmid's performances in the Star Wars movies are as precious as McKellen's in the Middle-Earth movies. Whether an individual film in the respective series is great or dire, they are always a bright spot.

Don't waste that.

I'm actually pissed they bring the Senate back only to kill him shortly after. The senate return is something for another trilogy of movies not just 1 and done. :( #justice4senate #dou♥democracyornot

Especially after the Senate's heroic journey in the prequels. He had to contend with a large conglomerate of people who not only believed they were him, but who'd craftily convinced the galaxy as well.
