They really need to get away from creating stories post episode 3, especially if it's going to feature Jedis. There's no way this character is going to accomplish anything significant because otherwise it would contradict the canon

I think this vid gives a better impression of the combat.

They definitely should've just went with this instead of that 14 minute demo

The "it" being the premise of playing as a young bounty hunter or smuggler in the Star Wars universe wrapped in a boring cover shooter on rails with action/climbing/walking moments. We've never had a Star Wars game like that but I have quit playing The Force Unleashed a third of the way through.

The 1313 reveal is more entertaining to me personally than all that I've seen from the Fallen Order. "It" is what it is.
What you said was clearly related to the video of 1313 in relation to the Fallen Order video. 1313 was way less compelling IMO. For me, BH stuffs are uninteresting as well as cover shooters. So i'm pretty sure that dampened my interest in 1313. I do love me games set in SW universe, I think the extended universe is the best thing to come out of the IP. But that is fine not every game is for everyone and I can accept that. It's just the gameplay in both were nothing inspiring.

The problem with throwing the axe in God of War and pinning someone to the wall is that it is only cool once.
The problem with using your super in Destiny is that it is only cool once.
The problem with chainsawing someone in Gears of War is that it is only cool once.
No, those are all pretty useful gameplay mechanics in those games.

It's OK for games to have flashy things you can do that probably won't be particularly useful all the time. Like some else said, maybe there'll be an enemy where that's a useful technique for hitting them. Or a puzzle might use freezing a blaster for something.

But as something to just kill a random stormtroopers that dies in one hit? There's any number of more efficient ways of killing him, especially if this game is like all Jedi games where force powers aren't unlimited (usually a refilling energy bar), so doing something like that is probably a good way to waste your power in a combat scenario.

I mean, if you stop to think through it for a second you'll see these scenarios aren't the same. All those things are fast, useful, and efficient along with looking cool. They're things you will clearly do consistently throughout an entire playthrough because they balance function with spectacle. They offer significant reward with pretty much only one button press, and/or are clear, superior options in many scenarios that come up often during the course of the game.

This was a fun little one off thing that gets people excited during a demo, and unlikely to be something the player comes back to time and again due to the fact that it's not efficient or malleable enough for players to bother with it after they've gotten tired of seeing the animation. It's a slower, riskier option with far too specific parameters for working that leads to the exact same outcome of just reflecting the laser back. Their encounter and enemy design would need to be significantly more complex to make something like this an option people will want to do even after the "cool" factor quickly wears off.

I mean, we've played enough games and seen enough gameplay demos to know how this goes. So yeah, I think they should have not shown that so that players could have figured it out on their own. Would've been more interesting that way.

GamesBeat: And then you're progressively going up to meet more difficult enemies, then. Is this about the middle of the game?

Kelch: Yeah, this is–I'd say this is maybe a third of the way through the game. You saw in the demo that you gain skill points. Your character does level up and progress throughout the game. The difficulty of the enemies you're facing, the challenge will rise to meet that.

Song: It's also one possible scenario, where you could have arrived there with a different set of powers.

Kelch:That's true. You might be a different kind of Jedi.

GamesBeat: There's an RPG element there, then, leveling up and choosing things?

Song: Not in terms of numbers, but the skills you have, and also depending on which areas you've gone to before. You might have unlocked different things. In the demo, you saw one playthrough, but there are many different branches you can follow, both within the demo and at the end of the demo as well.

Kelch: Once people play this, it's not going to be what they expected. It's a new, refreshing experience in the Star Wars universe.

Lightsabers not chopping through people just feels weird and wrong. Especially when older games had it.

The time stopping ability looks great! Love its use in exploration.

The trouble with having a protagonist who is a Jedi, with powers like this, is that it then means the game world invariably gets designed around that. Like why does that room have a spinning fan in it?
And another area I saw him force push a metal something over to walk across. It made me think what is that and why is it there?

Kinda ruins the immersion for me.

Why not place the tractor beam controls on the side facing the catwalk?

Well, for starters that isn't where the tractor beam intern turns it on and off from when the tractor beam supervisor tells him to, so it's not like it's used every day. And of course, yes that's a poor design too, but it's a long time ago in a galaxy far far away so I can forgive George Lucas.

However, all these years later we have games that add things like spinning fan blades in a room so you can't actually go through the entrance and then through the exit without being cut in half for no apparent reason other than it is a cool way to use force powers. To me it's poor design. You can easily design a world that allows these powers to be used whilst at the same time making it believable.

If it is cool, wouldn't it then make the design... good?

Why not place the tractor beam controls on the side facing the catwalk?
Why not place railing on the catwalks?
Why does the tractor beam control have lights sticking out of the top?
Why does a space station, where space would be at an absolute premium, have giant pits?
Why does an old man wear a bath robe on an infiltration mission?

These are the mysteries of scifi.

No wonder nobody like Star Wars. You cannot possibly immense yourself in a universe like that.

Loving a lot of what I am seeing. However dismemberment should definitely be a thing!! also his walk/run animation is a bit weird.

Looking forward to seeing and learning more

I won't lie. For a video game that uses Jedi and lightsabers, it looks boring and sluggish.

I haven't been impressed with EA's take on the Star Wars IP (outside from stellar presentation), so I'm going to give this a hard pass.

If this were being published by Sony, but literally nothing about the game or how it was presented were changed, this thread would be completely different.

Absolutely ridiculous responses in this thread.

I was thinking the same thing, but that's partly due due missteps by EA as a publisher that's playing into this.

Sony has been knocking it out of the park and EA...hasn't...at least on critical acclaim level.

Overall I like what I'm see so far of the combat, but not necessarily the environment traversal. One of the things I liked about Jedi Outcast and Academy were the traversal options. Being about to jump 30 - 40 in the air was awesome, and combined with other abilities, made getting to certain areas awesome.

There were certain areas in the game, where he was at a chasm, and either tight-roped across something or pulled a branch towards him so he could swing. While watching it I'm thinking "...dude...you're a Jedi...can't you just jump across it...?"

Kyle Katarn could've done it. :)

The EA brand definitely isn't helping things. But it's pretty obvious that EA has been very hands off with this project, it's a linear single player game with no MTX. Zampella negotiated alot of creative freedom for Respawn and it shows.

Yawn, console war shit is stupid. Especially because respawn is loved. I truly can't see how anyone can watch that game, where the characters and ai move slowly and sits back watching you fight and call it great. Then watch the animations not blend at all in an action game, all the complaining has to be because people hate EA.

It wouldn't. Stop this console war nonsense.
That is a ludicrous theory.
Literally people in this thread upset about things that have existed in video games and movies forever like a room where an obstacle is unrealistic.

Or dismemberment not existing in a T-rated game.

Or a player intentionally moving slowly because they've done that in these types of gameplay trailers forever now.

Exactly. Respawn basically has a perfect track record, and people in here seem to be bashing the game solely because it's an EA Star Wars game and not Titanfall 3.

Edit: Wait, I don't understand your post.

No it wouldn't. Guess you had blinkers on for every thread with Days Gone? Or would that not fit this agenda of yours? :/

Y u do dis?

I dread every time I have to run through that room and basically close my eyes while screaming/laughing maniacally. The same with Rom. Please gracious Miyazaki, no Spiders in Elden Ruin.
I hope Elden Ruin has giant spiders, and no easy mode.

This paints the combat in a more positive light. I still have issues with it, but looks better.
..................It's the exact same moves we saw in the other video

Except this time it's spliced together in a "trailer fashion"

Holy shit guys...

So, I guess this confirms what I thought; people just want spectacle and are not interested in seeing proper, grounded gameplay. :|

Those animations really fucking suck, that plus the stupid looking ai are really killing this game for me. And this game is being mentioned in the same breath as sekerio.

While I'm sure Sekiro will have superior combat, this is not quite fair, as Sunhi spends a lot of time crafting those gifs to get the most flattering camera angles and combination of moves and counters, in addition to adding slow motions so we can see the perfect hitboxes etc.

I looooove Sunhi's gifs. His Sekiro gifs in particular are like porn to me. xD But yeah. I'm sure Sunhi will be able to craft great-looking, flattering Fallen Order gifs too. C'mon now.

Something like Star Wars 1313 but with lightsabers
People will watch a film they like 20 times. People will play a game style they like thousands of times The proof is in the pudding. This trailer has "it". It being the promise of something special.

1313 was literally Uncharted in every single aspect except the setting. How is this "special"? It's the opposite of.

- Cover-based TPS
- AI partner grabbing mook for easy melee
- AI partner lifting obstacle to help you traverse, locking off the path behind you
- Extremely linear (see above)
- Cheesy one-liners
- Collapsing structure and big dumb explosion set pieces
- Fake platforming and "climbing"

It was all of the Uncharted clichés, good and bad, put together in a few minutes of inane, shallow spectacle. It was embarrassing how identical it was, to be honest. That people criticize this game for looking too much like Uncharted but praise 1313 is absolutely mind-boggling to me.

I'm glad they chose to show off actual gameplay in Fallen Order instead of focusing on an over the top set piece moment like 1313.
Same here. angrythankyou.gif

Because it let you role play as an aspiring bounty hunter. I mean honestly, that's cool if you wanted a BH game. But no one can look at both and claim 1313 is better or more exciting, hell or even looks better. Both videos showed Boeing sections, the extended demo shows some really neat stuff. Yea this is not an over the top Force Unleashed action game, and they may be playing it safe, but it looks like it has potential, plus this was an alpha build.
