As one promotion follows another in his rapid ascension to greater power, he schools his trusted aide, Ensign Eli Vanto, in the arts of combat and leadership, and the secrets of claiming victory. But even though Thrawn dominates the battlefield, he has much to learn in the arena of politics where ruthless administrator Arihnda Pryce holds the power to be a potent ally or a brutal enemy. All these lessons will be put to the ultimate test when Thrawn rises to admiral—and must pit all the knowledge, instincts, and battle forces at his command against an insurgent uprising that threatens not only innocent lives but also the Empire's grip on the galaxy—and his own carefully laid plans for future ascendancy.

A Jedi must be a fearless warrior, a guardian of justice, and a scholar in the ways of the Force. But perhaps a Jedi's most essential duty is to pass on what they have learned. Master Yoda trained Dooku; Dooku trained Qui-Gon Jinn; and now Qui-Gon has a Padawan of his own. But while Qui-Gon has faced all manner of threats and danger as a Jedi, nothing has ever scared him like the thought of failing his apprentice. Obi-Wan Kenobi has deep respect for his Master, but struggles to understand him. Why must Qui-Gon so often disregard the laws that bind the Jedi? Why is Qui-Gon drawn to ancient Jedi prophecies instead of more practical concerns? And why wasn't Obi-Wan told that Qui-Gon is considering an invitation to join the Jedi Council—knowing it would mean the end of their partnership? The simple answer scares him: Obi-Wan has failed his Master. When Jedi Rael Averross, another former student of Dooku, requests their assistance with a political dispute, Jinn and Kenobi travel to the royal court of Pijal for what may be their final mission together. What should be a simple assignment quickly becomes clouded by deceit, and by visions of violent disaster that take hold in Qui-Gon's mind. As Qui-Gon's faith in prophecy grows, Obi-Wan's faith in him is tested—just as a threat surfaces that will demand that Master and apprentice come together as never before, or be divided forever.

The Emperor is dead. His final weapon has been destroyed. The Imperial Army is in disarray. In the aftermath, Yrica Quell is just one of thousands of defectors from her former cause living in a deserters' shantytown—until she is selected to join Alphabet Squadron. Cobbled together from an eclectic assortment of pilots and starfighters, the five members of Alphabet are tasked by New Republic general Hera Syndulla herself. Like Yrica, each is a talented pilot struggling to find their place in a changing galaxy. Their mission: to track down and destroy the mysterious Shadow Wing, a lethal force of TIE fighters exacting bloody, reckless vengeance in the twilight of their reign. The newly formed unit embodies the heart and soul of the Rebellion: ragtag, resourceful, scrappy, and emboldened by their most audacious victory in decades. But going from underdog rebels to celebrated heroes isn't as easy as it seems, and their inner demons threaten them as much as their enemies among the stars. The wayward warriors of Alphabet Squad will have to learn to fly together if they want to protect the new era of peace they've fought so hard to achieve.

"If I were to serve the Empire, you would command my allegiance."

Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor Palpatine at their first meeting. Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire's most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy. But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive. Now, as Thrawn's TIE defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic's secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency. Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets.

As Thrawn works to secure his place in the Imperial hierarchy, his former protégé Eli Vanto returns with a dire warning about Thrawn's homeworld. Thrawn's mastery of strategy must guide him through an impossible choice: duty to the Chiss Ascendancy, or fealty to the Empire he has sworn to serve. Even if the right choice means committing treason...

I think I ultimately like TROS more than when I saw it in theaters. Still a messy movie but I enjoy it for it is. The emotional moments definitely hit me harder the second time I watched it.

Me too. I saw it twice.
On a filmmaking and storytelling level it's clearly a mess and I've already made my unfiltered complaints about that very known. But it still gets the nerdy child in me pretty excited. Lots of cool stuff to obsess over and dig into. As time goes on I remember the cool stuff more than the bad stuff. And Babu Frik is perfect.

This morning the tiny nerdy tidbit I'm obsessing over is how undeniable it is that Rothgar Deng is Dengar. Already the hints are obvious with them both being "old experienced" corellian bounty hunters that wear similar armor, the fact that Rothgar Deng is stated to be an alias, and that his appearance is stated not to be his natural appearance but the result of poor procedures to extend life. (The actor was 50 during ESB so if that's anything to go by, Dengar might be 85 by the time of TRoS)

But something I didn't know until today was that Dengar's full name in the old legends EU was Dengar Roth. (That is, until a continuity error forced them to later retcon that name in a sourcebook to an impersonator because Zahn killed Dengar Roth in one story and then another chronologically later story had Dengar alive again WHOOPS)

Rothgar Deng...Dengar Roth.
Dude is pretty messed up these days.

I finally broke down and bought the newest Millennium Falcon LEGO set. I don't like the set as much as the Force Awakens Falcon but I can't find that one at a decent price so I'm gonna be okay with what I've got.

Found this cool photo of JJ, Rian, and Colin all on the same set (although maybe it's a composite photo)

Yup, it improved a good deal for me on my second and third watches. Is it still messy? Yes. Is it as good as TLJ? No.

But it's a Star Wars movie I find myself quite enjoying and it has made me tear up, the emotional moments hit me hard each viewing.

I rewatched the prequels last month and TPM and AOTC were hard to sit through so I doubt TROS will be much better on a rewatch as nothing can save that messy 1st half...but I will at least enjoy the parts I liked.

I really hope I don't bash another Disney Star Wars movie like this again, this doesn't seem like me at all, I'm usually positive on Disney Star Wars movies but not as much for TROS!

I'm ready to move past the sequel trilogy. I enjoyed all of the films and TLJ is still my pick for the best Star Wars movie, but my focus is on Project Luminous and what comes next. The discussion (outside of this thread) can be so toxic, I'm ready to let go.

Where the sun shines
Great selection of books in the OT

For those that haven't, definitely check out the audible audio books, it's like radio dramas, music and sound effects all over.

And consider this your hourly reminder to watch Rebels. It deserves it

Wow new thread time.
Good stuff.

Thanks to Sax's help in OT2 I have KOTOR running on my PC successfully in Ultrawide 3440x1440 and thus have started a new play-through.
Forgot how much I love this game as I played it much less then KOTOR 2.

At this point, I just want Daisy to tell us. She knew, Simon Pegg knew, JJ knew. I'm still of the belief that JJ wanted her to be Luke's daughter somehow, but I'd still like to know.

Making Star Wars had a report a couple of months ago that briefly talked about their knowledge of J.J.'s plans for Rey during The Force Awakens:

For what it is worth, back in 2014/2015 I was hearing from reputable sources that confirmed that Rey was a "nobody", meaning not a Solo or a Skywalker. At that time, Abrams had a preference for the Palpatine direction. The Last Jedi made it easy to sweep it under the rug and forget about.

Why did I just start playing the old republic again. I am looking for anything to fill the good Star Wars sized hole in Me TROS didn't fill.
