Sure it's supposed to be and a good system when it's used properly.
The spoiler button works better though, especially for those that are constantly highlighting text.
I think the blackouts worked better. sometimes when people write out their posts they are able to express a complete thought in lines while putting spoilers in black. the spoiler button kinda breaks that flow.
Disabling it would be dumb as it is a great way to give out codes in giveaways.
A mess is an exaggeration, but I agree the spoiler button should be in the place of the quote to reveal and not hidden under the plus sign.
You should go through and report each of those posts for trolling.

No thanks. Just yesterday there was someone banned for "abusing the report system" something like that.
did you ask for the poll or did a mod add it voluntarily? perhaps this will lead to the feature being taken off
I wouldn't call it trolling. That's just playful human nature. Someone says "don't do this" then other people go "teehee" and do it. Especially since this isn't that big a deal, we're talking spoiler/quote ethics on a forum here.
fair enough. i wasn't sure if it falls under trolling, that's why I posed it as a question. but at the same time though, it doesn't really add to the discussion of spoiler/quote ethics. they're just posts filling up the page
