Strikers
idle-valkyrie.gif
Eir - Valkyrie

Eir is a very well rounded, easy to pick-up character. Her charge attack releases a ground scarring oversized spear. With her special ability she can ignite that trail to deal chip, slow inducing damage.
Utility: Eir's skillset is utility based. When Eir blocks successfully, she regains a small amount of health. Once a weak Child of the Cold, Eir was often the target of injustice and bias. She rebelled against it often, but without support there was little the shield-maiden could do about it. Then, Eir found a Godsblood crystal in the forest near her home in the North and transformed into a creature of legendary power: the Valkyrie. Possessed by the Spirit of Justice that permeated the crystal, she was now incorruptible, true and full of purpose. She wandered Gea, looking for injustices for her to right, to punish the wicked and to bring peace to the bereft of recourse...
idle-spartan.gif
Argalus - Spartan

Argalus finds its strategy in controling the enemy with his shield: his charge attack releases a shield that ricochets on walls and obstacles, stunning his enemies. While the shield is mid-air, you can use his special to make it explode for area of effect damage and knock-back.
Defence: Argalus skillset is attack based. When Argalus blocks successfully, he gets a temporary defence boost. After General Gnaeus betrayed the Laurentius Empire for the fledgling ideal of Democracy, the spartan centurion Argalus took his 7th Phalanx and was deployed to bring the traitor back to the emperor. After a long chase, they were ambushed and his army and trusted lieutenants were all massacred. Left for dead, he found a red Godsblood crystal and, blinded by rage, he gladly accepted the terms and became the embodiment of the Spirit of Vengeance within. Now, Argalus scours Gea, hunting high and low for the traitor Gnaeus, regardless of the cost...
idle-barbarian.gif
Urgül - Barbarian

Urgül doesn't just throw knives: charging throws his hook chain gauntlet, a spoil of war, grabing his opponent. Then, using his special, he pulls his enemy, lowering his defences for a short period of time. This combo makes him a very hard character to master, yet powerfull. Specially useful in 2v2 modes!
Attack: Urgül's skillset is attack based. When Urgül blocks successfully, he gets a temporary attack speed boost.
Urgül of the Steppes was a powerful tribal chieftain, until he was challenged by a man called Ursus. Little did he know the man was possessed by the Spirit of Strength. Fueled by the Godsblood, the warrior was a formidable foe, but Urgül managed to defeat him. But with the exhilaration of battle, the barbarian wordlessly agreed to let the Spirit in him. Now, he wanders the world like countless others before him, looking for trials of strength and might to sate his lust for battle...
idle-archer.gif
Laël - Archer

With her bow, arrows and fire spirit, Laël is a dangerous crowd control character: with her charge shot, she throws her explosive fire spirit. While her charge attack is mid-air, she can use her special to split the projectile in two opposing directions
Attack: Laël's skillset is attack based. When Laël blocks successfully, he gets a temporary attack speed boost.
The young Laël of the Wyldfolk was always aware of the destruction Men inflicted upon Nature. One day, she saw firsthand Nature's revenge: a bear imbued with the Spirit of Nature attacked and killed a party of lumberjacks, but became mortally wounded in the process. She tracked the bear and witnessed his death, and she accepted the mantle of Protector. Now she spends her time protecting the wilderness from ravenous predations, placing Mother Nature above all...
idle-knight.gif
Galad - Knight

Galad plays a more tactical game. With less mobility but powerful strikes, the knights charge attack launches a powerful, impaling lance, pinning the enemies against obstacles and walls, creating an oportunity for more attacks. The special ability can be used while a charged lance is stuck, releasing an electrical burst.
Defence: Galad skillset is attack based. When Galad blocks successfully, he gets a temporary defence boost.
Because of an accident of birth, the skilled Galad von Richenstein always had to fight harder than anybody else to be heard and accepted. The pain turned into pride, and the fighter used it as a shield against the world. Almost defeated during a tournament, Galad accepted the Spirit of Pride within, and used its power to kill the Knight's brother. Forced to flee, the warrior started a new life as a sell-sword, a mercenary for hire, wandering the world looking for purses big enough to make all the sacrifices worthwhile...
idle-viking.gif
Bjërg - Viking

Bjërg is straight to the point. His charge attack throws two arched axes. Use his special while they're mid-air to make then clash together and get your enemies when they think they're safe behind cover.
Attack: Bjërg's skillset is attack based. When Bjërg blocks successfully, he gets a temporary attack speed boost.
The loss of Bjerg's family while he was on a pillaging party almost drove him to madness. Even when he killed the trolls responsible, the grief in his heart was a heavy load. Fate intervened, though, and Bjerg found a Godsblood crystal and accepted it within his soul. The viking warrior then learned of powers in the summit of Skydream Mountain that could restore his family to life, so they could be together again. Without any regard for the consequences of his quest, he accepted the guidance of the Spirit of Grief...
idle-fencer.gif
Tamsin - Spell Fencer

Controlling arcane magic, Tamsin invokes and hurls fire and ice shards from across the field. Use her charge to throw extra damage dealing elemental shards that tag your enemies. Mix and match those elements to discover her combos and effects!
Utility: Tamsin's skillset is utility based. When Tamsin blocks successfully, she regains a small amount of health.
The vain sorceress Tamsin felt the years dragging her down to her inevitable death. Terrified with the idea, the mage delved deeper into books of arcane knowledge, dark blood magic and necromancy. One day, she believed she found the solution, and she summoned a Netherfiend from beyond Gea. But the demon was powerful and she lost control of it, and was forced to flee, teleporting to a volcano island. There, she found a Godsblood crystal holding a Spirit as vain as her. It told her of the immense power hidden beneath Skydream Mountain, that she could use to defeat the Netherfiend and claim eternal life. She accepted the Spirit's bargain and started her quest...
idle-ninja.gif
Haru - Ninja

Haru brings close-quarters-combat to the game: His charge attack releases a death-marked kunai, then use his special ability to slash into and back from it, dealing extra damage if the kunai is stuck to your enemy. Use this combo to deal damage efficiently and, if you're good, to dodge incoming projectiles!
Attack: Haru's skillset is attack based. When Haru blocks successfully, he gets a temporary attack speed boost.
Haru fell prey to forbidden love, by involving himself with the ward of Shogun Akio. When exposed, the shame within was daunting. Unfortunately, suicide was honourless, so he was caught between Honour and Shame. Unwilling to bring any more dishonour to his family, he left his ancestral home and wandered the world. He felt drawn in his travels, and eventually he found the Spirit of Shame, encased in a Godsblood crystal. He was told of a being of enormous power sleeping under Skydream Mountain, a being that would kill him, regardless of his skill. The ninja accepted the Spirit as part of his penance, and started walking, looking for his final battle, a way to die with honour...

OP notes:

It was my pleasure to create this OT. I really hope that these guys are successful with this game as just like any indie dev out there, they had a rough journey to get here. I can also say that "I was there", more specifically at the game jam where it all started 3 years ago. I was invited to be part of the jury that would select the best game of the jam. After 48 hours of hard work, me and some other guys decided unanimously that the cool dodge ball style game should win. It was not called Strikes Edge back then and it was (of course) not this polished, but dang was it fun! They kept the fun and after some funding, awards and events the game is done!

Vemo-nos online, putos!

Are there any single-player impressions? Is it bare bones or does it feel like a fully-developed campaign? The game looks neato--nice visuals and the gameplay looks fun--but I definitely don't have the time to reflexes to play PVP competitively.

As an aside, is anyone else put off by the recent trend of combining pixel art sprites with higher fidelity UI elements like text? This game, Into the Breach, Duelyst--to me it's really jarring, and I don't understand the aesthetic.

Haven't seen any impressions on the single-player, only multiplayer. Reviews should be coming out soon.

It's out today. Can someone give impressions on how it compares to other top notch party games like Duck Game, Gang Beasts, TowerFall Ascension, etc.?

I played Towerfall Ascension A LOT, always with 4 people.
Strikers Edge has that little extra spark in it, perfect for 2vs2 bouts. It does not have the mods that Towerfall has, but in contrast each character has different abilities that translate really well to the game field. I haven't played the campaign yet, but I really don't care about that :p

Would you say the game is great or just good?
