Sumo Digital, specifically the Sheffield location, is currently hiring for two unannounced projects. Going over the several available job listings some details can be gathered about both projects. One being a open-world AAA action title and the other a 3rd person MP shooter.

Project #1: "We are looking for a passionate Senior Game Designer to work on the next game in an established AAA open-world action franchise." Further described as "a well established IP" applicants are to help "grow the universe of a multi-title franchise". Help is needed to enhance "the gameplay and narrative of an existing IP". A Sound Designer ad describes it as "a huge but unannounced AAA console title with a clear vision of how to make our title truly stand out from the competition." This seems like a contract based project.

Project #2: "We have an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced Lighting Artist to join an experienced team currently working on an unannounced 3rd person multiplayer action title." Further descibed as an "exciting new multiplayer high-profile shooter IP franchise". They are looking for a "game designer specialising in the character, combat, and traversal mechanics to play a pivotal role in developing the core experience of a AAA game from the ground up." Another listing looks for somebody that has "a passionate love of gaming and a strong understanding of modern gaming trends; particularly in the PvP shooter genre." Sumo Digital is mostly known for developing games for major publishers like Crackdown 3 and Forza Horizon 2 (X360 version) for Microsoft, Team Sonic Racing for SEGA and the recent Sackboy: A Big Adventure for Sony. They also develop and publish their own titles like Snake Pass.

Crackdown 4.

I can't really believe Microsoft would go to that well again but I can't think of much else.

Crackdown 3 redo. Seriosuly though I really hope it's Crackdown and they nail it this time. The focus needs to be on crazy physics and weapons. The franchise is still unique and has a lot of potential.

I hope Sumo are able to break away from the contract work more and more as time goes on. Snake Pass is my favourite Sumo game but I've not loved much of the stuff they've done for other companies. I guess it's somewhat inevitable that when an IP isn't important enough to be developed in house, it's less likely to be top notch.

Is crackdown really considered AAA?

(1) Yes
(2) When it comes to LinkedIn and resumes and job listings it's pretty common to stretch the definitions of AAA a bit in my experience

The graphics were actually nuts on Sackboy, insanely beautiful.

Would rather not have Crackdown, if by some stroke of luck they were really working on Infamous that'd be unreal

I think Crackdown has had more than enough chances but it's probably Crackdown.
Also, please play Sackboy's Big Adventure! Thank you!

Would be rad if it was infamous. Crackdown 3 made me realize I don't want anymore crackdown. It was one of those games for me that had a time and a place and it's long past that.

Xbox Game Studios Global Publishing is working on a AAA Open World Game. I think this lines up. All things considered, for a team brought in to salvage the game, Sumo did damn good on Crackdown 3.

It could be Crackdown or Crimson Skies.

Hmm, will be interesting to see how this turns out. Given Sumo Digital's experience in lots of different franchises it could be anything, but I think Crackdown has the most potential. It seemed like they were bought on just to finish off Crackdown 3 but if they were involved from the beginning of a new game chances are they will be able to flex their muscles a lot more.

This or they are probably working with PG games on Fable. :)

I liked Crackdown 3 (as did several other people based on this thread) but clearly the reviewers savaged it as being an anachronism. If they go back to that well they need to add some complexity and story or something. Bring it into the modern age. It doesn't have to be a Sony-style cinematic joint but clearly it needed something to please more of the modern player base.

If they could take Crackdown and make it more like Spider-Man or Infamous, but with the open world of Crackdown/GTA including turfs that'd be amazing. Doesn't have to be super story based or anything, just a closer camera, more traversal options and abilities.

Crackdown was fun as fuck, I don't care what any of you say!

The sandbox was awesome, but it lacked the hooks and depth many players expect these days.

gimme some more!

Crackdown 3 was fun, some people probably never even gave it a chance. It certainly didn't help with all the cloud talk surrounding it which is why it deserved to get trashed but at the end of the day the main game was actually a blast to play.

If for example they are working for Sony I expect Uncharted 4 joining with the new sony studio, if it's MS side... I don't think it will be Crackdown 4 but I'd be happy with that, I would love also Ryse 2 for example, is the franchise right in MS hands or Crytek? I'd love a Sunset Overdrive 2 but is in Sony's hands now right? Just one last wish... Alan Wake 2, make it happen with a remedy collaboration or whatever.
