One of the most disappointing things in the first game was how few Nintendo made levels they were, and how proof of concept they all were. The game didn't really a set of good Nintendo made levels.

I think the main idea behind the levels in the original was to go - hey these are some of the cool things you can use as a base, work away from here!

I will probably not create any level in my life, but I will enjoy other people's masterpieces.
I just did one horrible level in the first Mario Maker, and never ever turned back. I didn't need it after playing all the insane levels created by other users.

Wii U version was really well supported. I think Nintendo is going to really nurture this one.

I feel like it was supported decently for the first year in that it got some small changes, but they really didn't add too much over the life of the whole game. I think the biggest things they added were a second checkpoint, P switch doors, and a couple other small variations of things. But they really didn't add much that I think would warrant a $20 a year fee to play 100 man.

Considering it was the Wii u and they started working on the Switch around that time, it's amazing it got any support at all

I know what you're trying to say, but that $20 a year is for much more than just 1 game's online.

Well obviously, but that fee is basically an added cost on the game since the game is kind of useless without playing other people's levels. I mean there's enough people in this thread alone that are asking and talking about getting it just for this. Asking for support of the game in exchange doesn't seem like that much of a stretch.

So from my original list of what I've wanted for the last few years:

-creating a world map
-correct mario world checkpoint
-Slopes
-Missing SMB3 powerups
-Use one games powerups in another game (ie yoshi/cape in SMB, raccoon/hammer suit in SMW etc)
-wings being usable on yoshi
-poisoned mushroom
-p wing
-on/off switch
-Tweester ⚠ (they kind of have an enemy like this, but not quite the same)
-water on land ✅ (to some extent at least)

-One way pipe
-Pipe that lets you out in the same area (as seen in the smb3 wraparound pipeworld level in ludvig von koopa's world 7) ⚠ Maybe the clear pipes will do this?
-multi coloured yoshi/koopas /w ability changes for ingested koopas ⚠ (we saw red so I assume the others are there)
-Magic ball, so you can finish levels when YOU want them to be finished ⚠ No magic ball so far, but there does seem to be changeable goals
-bosses (big boo, reznor, boom boom, kooplings) ⚠ boom boom is in
-Vertical stages /w optional wrap-around ⚠ Verticality is better then SMM1 at least
-Desert Theme ✅

-Sky Theme
-Snow Theme ✅
-Night Theme ⚠ (there was something like this there, so it may be in - or it may be that there are backgrounds are separate from themes now, and that each theme has
multiple backgrounds)
-Tank Theme
-Battleship theme
-grab block
-3up
-dragon/star coin
-key/lock
-power balloon
-water levels that go up and down ✅
-crushing columns
-controllable coin line block
-wind
-triangle block
-CHARGIN CHUCK
-angry sun ✅
-all hammer bros (amazin/fire/boomerang/sumo etc) ⚠ (Fire Bros at least are in now)

-blargg
-thwimp
-eerie
-ninji
-boo block
-"floating" Boo Buddys (where they are not scared of you, but also move randomly, seen in SMW ghost houses)
-pokey
-nipper/fire nipper
-block goomba
-mechakoopa
-fishin lakitu/boo
-red pirahna plants that ignore whether you are near a pipe (SMB2/LL)
-jumping pirahana plants (though I guess wings kind of emulate this)
-ptooie
-rotating cannon
-fire snake
-flame chomp
-rotodisc

Happy to see some of the most important things (slopes, verticallity, water, on/off) are already in, which is good.

The biggest and most important thing that NEEDS to be in this game that most people don't list or remember: The ability to restart from checkpoint!

If you restart in SMM1 you start at the beginning of the level, otherwise you have to die. Can be a big issue when people are bad at making levels and make a softlock and you're sitting there for 500 seconds to not lose a checkpoint.

I wonder if you'll be cut off from your downloaded community levels if you stop paying the online fee.

Think of it as 20 bucks a year for unlimited Mario play.

Can't wait for this one. Put 1000 hours in the last one. Still holding out for baby Yoshi's en Charging Chucks.

Escorting baby yoshi's the only type of escorting missions I like.

I'm obsessed with this game, I need it now @_@
I bet there is still a lot of surprises they haven't shown yet, just like they did with the first one.
Andre's hard at work on it and it's looking to be a massive undertaking, shouldn't be long! Derrick's also very busy with a Fire Emblem analysis
Thanks! This will help while waiting more infos haha.

I'm hoping you can lock your levels to a specific character so you can design stages for a specific character in mind. Assuming other characters will have differences beyond cosmetic.

who needs Mario Maker when you've got Tetris 99
You know I wanted to play a Tetris game for a few days and here it is now!
We already know they had 8 million subscribers from their last financial briefing. Its not low. But obviously they want to keep that number rising as much as possible
I worded myself poorly, what I mean is, there are 8 mil. subscribers but a lot with 1 or 3 months "only" subscriptions. I wonder if that's the reason why we got a June release. But maybe MM2 only feels to me like a holiday game...

What up, it's Dashie, and welcome back - yes back...to Super Mario Maker twoa, shoea, chua.

Looks very good to me!
Cannot wait to watch Dashie, Super Beard Bros. and GameGrumps start playing this. And I hope Patrick Keplek starts up his Mario Maker Mornings series again but he probably has a lot on his plate these days. He hasn't really uploaded anything since he stopped MMM years ago. Guess I shouldn't hold out hope for Spelunking With Scoops to come back with Spelunky 2 either. But it'll be fun to watch the Giant Bomb guys get back into it.

With Toad and Luigi both seemingly playable I hope Peach isn't left in the dust and that they all have their unique attributes from past games.
I wish they'd just put all four in with their SMB2 physics and have the character you play as be chosen by the creator, not the player, so they could design levels around the character's abilities. They won't. But they should. Maybe Mario Maker 3 when they finally add SMB2 stuff like vegetables and Shyguys and Wart.

Do I need Nintendo paid service to acces other users maps?
I'm hoping they'll make the levels playable for free but make you pay for the service to upload. Would be silly to require the service to even play anything. But they'll probably lock all user created levels behind the paywall but let people play the Nintendo created levels and some select others, maybe the randomly chosen ones through the 10/100 Mario challenges, for free.

He'll probably at least be playing Dan's monstrosities.

My ideal approach would be to make it so that you have to have an NSO sub to play other people's levels, but the sub gives you access to a Mario Maker Player client, where you can play levels but not make them. That way, it's a huge incentive to subscribe, and only the kind of people that really want to make levels would buy the actual game, reducing the number of, but improving the quality of, the levels on offer. If they were feeling generous they could say that if you own the full game you don't need to sub to play and upload. I don't know if this would eat into sales too badly to be worth it though. Perhaps if the player client just gave access to a 100 Mario Mode, with no search options or anything.

My only issue with early Mario Maker was the obsession with Kaizo style levels by the creators. I stopped playing later so I don't know what happened with the community, but I hope we get more conscientious game design.

I think it will be cosmetic differences. They put in Toadette instead of Peach probably because Peach would need to float whilst Toadette is the same as Mario, Luigi and Toad.

You know what would be cool but they'll probably never do it? Use a phone/tablet app to build levels on like a second screen or something.

It's possible they include some functionality in the Nintendo Switch Online app, but I doubt it will be creation. Probably more like a Miiverse replacement more than anything. Maybe roll the Bookmarks functionality into it as well.
