I'm expecting the E3 Direct to be on par with the last major Direct (the one with Mario Golf and Splatoon 3). Not expecting much more then that.
I hope people would enjoy a Direct on par with that, but for me that was one of the weakest Directs of the Switch era and Nintendo hardly has anything dated for H2. Believeeeeeee

Nate said only a handful of AAA developers relevant to the Switch ecosystem had a devkit. That should change in June.

Well, it's June now, and I believe that comment was predicated on a reveal happening before E3, with kits being sent out to all devs immediately thereafter.

But now it's not even clear that a reveal is coming anytime soon.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around there simultaneously being enough devs that have a Pro devkit that it's surprising it hasn't leaked (per Imran) including some AA devs and MVG/GVG not hearing anything.

I'm sure it's happening, but a lot of people seemed to get bamboozled with the timeline.
Companies can have kits and numerous employees may not know they have them. Enough devs have access to Pro dev kits but distribution is still limited, generally speaking. More devs will gain access to kits in the coming weeks.

Hoax by whom? Multiple, independent sources verifying specific information about the upcoming revision?
I'm just entertaining the idea (not that I actually believe it to be the case):
A hoax that came from something that Nintendo at one point was exploring, some sort of protootype. Someone caught wind of that, and started spreading it as a pro when Nintendo had no intent of ever releasing it. Whilst the devkits that where apparently sent out where just improved switch dev kits, with some extra futures for ease of development. At the same time other sources where jumping onto the bandwagon, and vague statements from other insiders, where misinterpreted adding fuel to the fire.

Yeah, I know how it's all possible. The place I work at is large enough that not everyone knows everything that others are working with/on. I'm just a little surprised at how this is playing out, but kind of impressed at the same time. A pre-E3 reveal would have blindsided a lot of people.

I don't see the benefits of releasing false information like that. As a matter of fact, wouldn't that get them into trouble from their investors?

Holding off on posting my own big E3 dream list; just in-case Nintendo/The Pokemon Company pull a fast one and decide to actually show some stuff this week.

Is it possible that the Switch Pro isn’t much of an update to the Switch itself besides the newer screen and all the “Pro Enhancements” are in the dock? It wouldn’t be the first time Nintendo updated the Switch internals without making a big deal of it. That could also be why they’re seemingly not concerned about component shortages.

Yea, thanks, could be just Nate has some old info at this point. Imran I think has different sources, he even teased skyward sword like a year ago. Maybe the devs/pipeline guys who are his sources got the kits or had a project worth getting a kit

Either way we know it exists just the when now

Does anyone remember how Imran teased AOC last summer by just tweeting “Hyrule Warriors was a good game.”

He’s an icon.

That one thread about the Nintendo Switch build quality...and some posters even openly comparing it with Playstation's. Isn't that pretty much console warring?

This is the one reason why I checking this board for news exaspirates me to no end.
Well I would agree the build quality is pretty poor. Mine is cracked and bended when I’ve taken good care of it. Feels like if I drop it slightly it could break compare to older Nintendo handhelds where they felt like bricks.

But most threads that are critical are rather poor on era as it leads to a lot of hyperbolic responses and others being aggressively defensive. One aspect of Era that doesn’t seem to have a middle ground for posting.

Any amount of developers can be enough for a leak, to be honest. Dev kits for Pro remain limited & only developers of value have early access. I know of many studios with dev kits (As I've said, I know of Pro games -- be them exclusive or simply enhanced) but it doesn't mean every employee is aware of the dev kit. It depends on projects, work from home, and other factors. Access to a kit can, at times, be limited to a "on the list" basis.

There were several teases made by folks last summer but many were missed.

Let's just sit back and relax and enjoy the Direct when it comes, guys. Emily and co. only ever said it might be revealed prior to E3, otherwise it would be soon after.

I do wonder how crazy we're all gonna get during the post-E3 anticipation for the Pro reveal though, lol. At least we'll (uh... hopefully?) have tons of Nintendo news to chew on during that time rather than sitting around and waiting like during this current super boring period of time lol.

And hey, at least - unlike the rest of the industry who'll have the usual post-E3 slow news period - Nintendo will still have the Pro up its sleeve to keep everyone on their toes.

Do you still think that the switch pro will be released this year?

Fair enough, I certainly missed those teases. I was too wrapped up in Geno/Smash Bros spec last summer.

by the way, great analysis by you and MVG on FFVIIR coming/not coming to Switch in your episode today. You guys always keep it real.

Not that I don't enjoy the podcast, but I sorta wish you had told this to MVG on the one before last because he was very skeptical of a Sept/Oct release based on the people he had spoken to.

He's aware of it. But you are right; should have stated that not every employee will have knowledge nor does a singular A/AA or even AAA developer not having access mean that others do not have access to kits. Each console manufacturer has a list of priority partners & the rollout for dev kits is based on that prioritization.

When can we expect the Direct predictions NateDrake? Thanks in advance.

We record tomorrow and it'll be available on Thursday.

I still hope we can some "little" announcements before the Direct (Hyrule Warriors DLC for example).

Not that it is the fault of anyone but myself, but I feel like after getting overhyped from a possible Switch Pro announcement the past week or so, it has taken down my hype for next week's direct. I am certain the closer we get the more exciting things will be, but right now I'm just thinking about what could have been (new hardware, Pro-enhanced footage shown at E3) even if it never was going to happen in the first place lol

I don't know much about dev kits but what do these normally look like? Surely not just a motherboard with all the components attached right? How close do these things look to the final product?
