I think I've talked about this before, but it's still incredibly weird to me that Geno wasn't made an AT given that the Smash team had to negotiate for his Spirit.

I wonder if it's possible that he wasn't made an AT on the off chance they could make him playable down the line.
Just speculating here, but it could be tied to how the IP rights are written. So if the Mario RPG were split by Nintendo/SQ, maybe Nintendo could only use them in a limited sense (as a jpeg). It's the same scenario as the SMT x FE tsubaki spirit where the IP is split by Atlus/Nintendo as well.
Gosh come to think about it, smash must have been a legal quagmire to work through. Imagine the paperwork involved just to get cloud on board.

In the US, the DS Chibi Robo was a Walmart exclusive...

It's like they wanted it to bomb
"the DS Chibi-Robo"

heh, that's what Japan wants us to think, hiding away the only proper sequel to the original and not letting us touch it (or the Wii port of the original)

From what we've heard, Cloud was particularly annoying and expensive to bring back for Ultimate

Sakurai has also made low key remarks about Cloud, like for music, without actually mentioning Final Fantasy or Square

This picture raises surprisingly many questions. Is the razor-sized vacuum actually a razor? What is the white powder, if it is a powder, given the game is rated A? (For the lack of suspense in other options, I'm guessing ant poison.) Does the game feature anything to do with Finland, or is the choice of glyphs coincidental? Why are these Japanese title subtitles so long, and do they spoil stuff?

To answer these pressing questions:
  1. The razor-sized vacuum is in-fact a vacuum.
  2. The white powder is dust, because vacuuming dust is a thing you can do in the game.
  3. Unfortunately, there aren't any Finland connections in the game (to my knowledge).
  4. The full translated title of the game is "Welcome Home! Chibi-Robo! Happy Rich Cleaning", which is an apt summary of the game (Chibi-Robo is back, and he is happily cleaning to get some moolah).

Now I kinda wonder if the game would have more Western marketing appeal if the vacuum was also a razor. It would definitely make Chibi-Robo more of an assassin.

You know I was thinking about this last night since I've been tackling some stuff in Rare Replay lately...wouldn't it be something if Nintendo managed to get Conker in Smash as well? It sure as hell would be unexpected especially due to the content of it, but it's not like Smash has shyed away from adult characters and themes (of course not everything about Conker would translate into Smash obviously). I think his inclusion would be an even bigger surprise than Banjo as well though maybe not as beloved.

In Japan, Conker is just a random Diddy Kong Racing character. None of his solo games released over there.

Chibi-Robo is a modern Nintendo classic and the way they treated the series after that first game is criminal. That first game deserves a remaster at the least, because more people need to realize how incredible it is.
This is the best Namco rep possible. Nobody else comes close.

I had no problem getting into non-Nintendo franchises like Sonic, Mega Man, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Persona... still haven't left my Nintendo comfort zone much for some reason.
Time to play Style Boutique/Savvy then to prepare for Shop Assistant as a rep in the next Smash.

Is that a video that starts with Pewdiepie, then that BitBlock Bloke. Ew. Not to mention the Pepe thumbnail.

Never got to play the original. I'd totally buy a Switch port.

I feel if they made it more casual and took some ideas from Animal Crossing it would have done wonders for Chibi Robo.

I assume it's been shared (of course it has) but Gamexplain did an analysis video about the DQ Hero:

I gotta say he looks like one of the most unique playing characters ever. I'm really excited to mess around with the spells.

The whole "hold special to select that special" thing has been speculated about by several people by now, but it sounds somewhat off to me. It's probably how it works, but in case it doesn't - I'm already thinking it's weird.

It feels like one of those Smash gimmicks that sounds cool and looks cool in a trailer, but feels impractical in the game because it just seems awkward to have to stand still to pick specials since no opponent will ever let you do that

I'm kinda just imagining it will eventually be a very speedy thing. You know which option you want to choose and where it is so you just hold B, hit down twice (for example) and release.

Gamexplain speculates that just tapping the special will then reuse the same spell again, which makes sense. It really shouldn't be that hard to pull off a variety of them with a bit of practice.

Well, I don't think the process has to be that painful. Especially if we assume that whatever spell is selected will be kept for the next time the player wants to quickly press the corresponding special. Given enough time, people will naturally memorize placement of the spells.

Chibi-Robo kinda already has some Animal Crossing in it, with the menial daily tasks and stuff, but the first game is honestly more of an adventure game than anything else. It's all about getting to know the family and the various toys and things that live in the house and dealing with their issues. It's a surprisingly heartfelt game and I don't think many people pick up on that by looking at it. I know I was shocked when I went into a silly little robot game that ended up dealing with death/suicide parallels, survivors guilt, divorce and drug addiction, among other things.

That game is a fucking trip.

Even though that's the case, it still seems impractical for the player to pick which up special they want to use, when trying to recover. Even just standing there for a second causes you to lose height and also picking a spell seems like it's an easy time to edge guard Hero.

Was just watching some play through, it looks to have so much potential as a series. When I think AC, I think of how it's meant to be kind of relaxed. You take the battery pack from Chibi Robo and add some other aspects of it to make it even more relaxed (no real time for instance vs. AC's need to play it daily) and you've got a game that can do well.

Yeah, the battery is sort of limiting at first, but it kind of gates your exploration and ties directly into the day/night mechanic, so it's kind of a necessary feature of the way that game is designed. I think it's an initial hurdle that people kind of build up in their mind "I don't want to be on a time limit" but that's not actually what it is. I totally get your point though.

It's too bad they only tried the same premise once before abandoning it, and it was on a game they pretty much dared people to find and play. Complete mismanagement of that IP.

I find that any kind of time limit stresses people out even if it's a part of the core gameplay loop. It's the most common reason I hear over snubbing Majora's Mask anyway.

No one ever lets Cloud charge limit either, he does it to force people to approach him or when they're off stage. I think the special move selection will be similar. Players will have to find openings to quickly change to their preferred moves in a given situation. I would not be surprised if character specialists become insanely quick with it similar to Shulk mains and Monado Art selection. Seen a lot of clutch recovery with quick select of Jump Art.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the stress of time limits, but games like Majora and Chibi-Robo don't use them in that "you're gonna miss out" way that a game like, say Dead Rising does, which is why I can deal with them. I love the DR games, but the idea of "this person is gonna die if I don't save them in the next 5 minutes" has always raised my anxiety lol

Maybe it'll be some unique combination of inputs or something that allows you to quickly swap moves. We've seen characters like Ryu/Ken and Inkling get unique mechanics tied into standard inputs, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. More likely than not it'll be exactly the way we assume and be too clunky to be of use in normal situations though lol
Probably the most likely Namco reps, though I wonder how another swordfighter would be received, especially if they have magic like Robin and Hero.
I think they'd be so totally different than the standard swordy that people wouldn't care. Honestly, I think the sword fighter thing only comes into play when it's an FE character, who look similar and have derivitive movesets, or when it's a character people just don't want to like ie Hero.
