Would the ESRB have to view and rate promotional material like the 50-Fact Extravaganza? It's possible that they heard about Mewtwo from that.

The ESRB would mainly have to see the game & everything questionable in it, not so much the promotional material elsewhere.
It would not be rated at the time of when that video was taken.

I don't know when Wii U was rated but I'm not sure if it was in August which was when the ESRB leak happened. Besides I don't think they'd need information on Mewtwo at that point and it wouldn't affect the rating much and would matter more closer to release so like February 2015
Yes, and I would add that leaks from third parties are much more common than from Nintendo. And he clearly has some sort of source or sources inside of Namco based on several of his past leaks.
It doesn't matter if Verge has one source or many sources. If he is willing to put any info out there, he is saying that he feels confident in that source. When someone gets stuff wrong or are completely missing major information, it hurts their credibility. It's doesn't excuse them. It means their sources are bad or he's flat out lied to.
What did the consensus on the validity of Gematsu end up being? Was their information just from very early in development and later proven wrong, or was it a mix of correct and incorrect sources?
Which I dislike by the way, they're going to say it's Final Fantasy VII and yet Cloud's symbol is just the "FF" instead of the meteor? That's just lame. Almost as much as it having only two tracks.

Honestly I'm shocked it took this long to have a render that would make him look closer to the other anime characters like Fire Emblem and Shulk. The fact that Agnes leak a while back had Agnes on model to the Smash style and had Issac look different to that was weird.

The former. He was missing some characters, but all of the information was correct at some point in development (Chrom was confirmed in a magazine (forget if it was his Column or a random interview) and a placeholder file for the Rhythm Heaven series icon was datamined from the Wii U version)
Early planning document info. Makes sense considering what he got and what was missing or was wrong. Especially in the case of Chrom and Chorus Kids which have evidence to being considered for Smash 4 at some point

it's kind of frustrating how often a character really only has one shot at a game and if they miss it well tough luck. But if you're in you're either in or on call for life, no matter how weird yo uare in retrospect.
I completely disagree that missing information is a negative mark in any way. He has never claimed that the information he is giving out is in any way comprehensive. As it stands, the only bit of wrong info he has yet to give out regarding Smash is Isabelle as an echo, and even that is shakey since he was unsure himself -- and so were most people when they saw her reveal.
For this specific game he has been very very accurate thus far.

Hey, I would have been fine with the symbol as long as Cloud represents the entirety of FF, which he still does, but if there can't be any reference outside VII like, the games that actually began on Nintendo systems, then that is disappointing. But it's just a silly pet peeve of mine.

Nintendo of Canada is hosting a special event in a bar in Montreal on Thursday. They don't say what the event is about and the bar has said that they don't know what it is, but Nintendo of Canada's post says they'll reveal what it is on Wednesday. Also the bar made a post that said it was 3 days before the event, for any Skull Kid stans out there.

Just woke up and had a Smash related dream that I have to post just in case I forget about it. It involved an amiibo leak in one retailer besides some smash accessories, it was for amiibo for Incineroar and another one for Ray msomething. I have just looked online and the only Ray M something from Nintendo is the Ray Mkiii from Custom Robot which I see was previously even a Trophy on smash. I don't know anything about Custom Robot apart than it existing so this is now in my newcomer list (even if I know is not going to happen)

That would never fly in actual journalism. Granted this is just videogames so it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme. Like I said, him being wish washy gives him an out. He claims he wants to verify his sources being saying who this mysterious Square rep but he is seemingly ok with putting out info that he is unsure about it. Doesn't make sense. He's cagey about certain information because he wants to position himself to being right, no matter the outcome. And who are these sources that have certain specific information, specifically certain fighters, but not others? It would suggest that his sources are second, third or fourth hand accounts. An employee who maybe overheard something about another person getting a glimpse some document that may be related to the development of Smash. And those type of sources are hard to verify.
