The Dom and Colin podcast posted their season 40 draft. It's a pretty good 3 hours. Featuring Domenick from Ghost Island.

Heads up they don't do a straight up back and forth draft. They pick a player and open the draft on a value basis and then they basically auction off each player. So some players can go for $50 bucks, and some can go for 50 cents. The higher the player basically giving you the better chance at the total prize pool so you're paying more for it.

Oh boy did this post not age well. From around Episode 2 or 3.

This is completely unfair because it is not his fault and I am basing this on where he's from, but I am going to be annoyed if Gavin wins the game. We just had Nick win the game with the aw shucks strategy, I would like to see a different type of successful strategy.

He does have a cool shirt, though.

Be careful what you wish for indeed. I feel like I brought this upon myself.

We should do a draft like that at ERA before that season premieres.

They actually bring up a really good point for the lowest valued player in the draft:
Sandra goes for just $7 as the lowest value in the season. They actually bring up a good reason, as even if somehow she miraculously make it to the endgame, which she already has an insanely low chance of doing, with the new design of the final 4 she has basically a zero chance of going to the final 3. She has a low chance of winning in fire, she has a low chance in winning the final 4 comp, and anyone would be really stupid on picking to take her so her low value seems pretty justifiable.

Boston Rob was slightly above her at $7.50 I think. Ben would have more than likely went for cheaper, but it was a product of circumstance with basically no one wanting him and him being the last name and Dom just through out for $10.

Wendell and Adam Klein went for the highest around $40 and 45

I'm going to buck almost all of the trends in continuing to root for Denise once again. Still feel her win in Survivor Philippines never gets the credit it's due despite the fact that she attended every tribal council in every single episode (14 in total) and made it all the way to the end (with a decisive jury vote to boot).

They really flubbed the ball on the male winner side of the board... although it will be nice to see Ethan and Yul again. No Hatch. No Heidik. Sabotaging Boston Rob with the Amber anchor. Tony is pretty much a Hantz that happened to win and has no chance. Ben is trash. If Adam mentions his mom for pity again, I'm going to hurl. Ugh.
I completely agree, after watching Philippines a short while ago I was very impressed by Denise's win. Definitely a unique winner, and I thought she played a great well-rounded game for the most part.

I feel like she has a great chance for 40.

Gonna be super curious to see if we see fewer physical challenges in S40. That's a much older average age than we normally see in Survivor.

It's a nice idea but S40 is going to be spoiled all to hell. We pretty much have to do something now before known players get booted off pre-merge and start popping up in vacation photos or social media.

If I was a Survivor player that sucked at making fire, I would immediately make a determination within the first 3 days who else sucked at making fire and start up an alliance with them. I would also prioritize identifying similar people that sucked at making fire on the opposing tribe in the event of a tribe swap or merge and expand my alliance to include them.

Additionally, I would not show up to play Survivor not knowing how to make a fire. I would practice my ass off for a full month beforehand under a variety of conditions, go to the island, never make fire for camp while making a show of being completely inept at it and align with savvy non-fire starters who comprise my initial methodology.

Anyone that is good at making fire would become my #1 target to be booted out ahead of physical threats or players with strong social games.

(Incidentally, I think the current Final 4 fire-making challenge format sucks ass. Thank goodness Australian Survivor hasn't adopted it.)

Unless Adam Klein has another sob story there is no way he's winning again

It really has been a horrible addition. And your post reminds me, when is Aussie Survivor coming back?
Australian Survivor is currently taping Season 6 in the South Pacific and will wrap things up a month from today with an expected premiere date sometime in late July/early August. They're reprising the Champions vs. Contenders theme from last season for this year's installment (thankfully with no Russell Hantz this time around).

Just caught up this weekend, and man did they really screw this season up. I don't have an issue with extinction island, but allowing someone to come back in so late in the game with a potential idol is pretty damn dumb. They also need to lay off all the idols, it's so stupidly overdone. I didn't mind Devens because he still play a good portion of the game, but Chris hardly played. Sure he made some nice moves at the end, but the only reason he won was because how shit Julie and Gavin were. They need to scrap this idea and never use that shit again.

The one thing I would never change about this season is Reem being on EoE the entire time.

Would people be interested in doing some kind of game in advance for Season 40? I had talked to UberTag briefly about it, and Carthago Delenda Est sounded interested. We could do either 1) a draft, or 2) a game where we pick a few players in advance and score based on final placement or something. The number of interested participants would probably affect the format we'd have to do.

There's a decent change Season 40 is going to get spoiled, so would like to do it soon-ish before any info comes out. So try not to disappear from the site by the time it is airing in 7-8 months. :p

Too bad we're not getting a season 3 for New Zealand Survivor this year. I'm guessing Australia's Survivor will probably start sometime in July/August?

I'm down. We have the tribal-council fantasy style site already, but you're right that this season might very well be spoiled so we should find a way to pick sooner rather than later. Could even just do a simple boot list and get points from that somehow.

Hey! OP here. FWIW, I always avoid boot spoilers. I guess some here do not? The main subreddit should be safe from boot spoilers, except the few poor souls who are randomly spam messaged with them over there.

That said, I'm down for any fun and games. But we're still like 9 months away from season 40 airing. Maybe when I create the OP for season 39 (and 40, and so on), I can loop you in as our fun and games specialist? Thinking of something a little less complex than weekly stock market trading (unless you wanted to run that.) Something like everyone locking in a winner pick, and maybe a few more superlatives like "first boot", "finds the most idols", "gets called by last name only by Probst", and whatever else we can think of.

Let me know!

Due to the nature of S40, theyre gonna be unavoidable. Same problem occurred w other even numbered seasons.

So far, it looks like me, UberTag, Carthago Delenda Est, TheYanger, RepairmanJack interested so far. We could do a straight fantasy draft where we all pick 3 players predicting who will win. We could also do a format where we all can pick, like 5-6 players for our team (that can overlap), and we just score points based on where they finish cumulatively (pre-merge, post-swap, jury, finale episode boots, finals losers, winner?).

Hey there! I was mostly tossing around the idea of a little side draft or something we could do in advance, just because of the spoiler issue Kirblar mentioned. It's possible S40 won't get spoiled, but due to the nature of the production, I am kinda expecting it is. I don't personally follow spoilers anymore (not since like S15ish), don't know if other people here do. It's just, doing a winner pick kind of game right before becomes more challenging if it's possible the answers are already out there.

I think we should definitely do more organized and/or week-to-week games when the S40 thread it out. Was gauging more of an Early Bird Picks kind of thing, just in case.

Yup. I'd imagine most of us are down for that. I'd say we just make it super simple. Pick 3 and then you get points based on what # they were when voted out. Lowest points wins? I don't like picking a winner necessarily (always feels too random) but I'm open to reversing the point system I proposed to so that we can reward that.

I'll start if off then. How about people have one month from tomorrow (so.. July 1, 2019) to pick their three players? Post your three as a response in this thread or PM me and I'll add them to this threadmarked post. Make sure you spoiler tag your choices for the people who don't want to know what the cast (or for that matter, the theme) of the season is. If you want to change your picks, PM me on or before July 1st @ 11:59 PM EST.

Points will be earned based on boot number. So last place only gets one point, first place gets 20 points. If players tie for 2nd and 3rd place (assuming it's a F3), they'll both receive 18 points. Fair?

How are we doing ties between #2 and #3? Giving them both points as if they were booted 18th? I assume if one gets more final tribal votes we'd say they were "booted 19th."

Yeah, that would be a good format. We could do a "points are bad" system where the winner scores 1 pt, 2nd place 2 pts, all the way down to 20th place 20 pts.

Tie-breaker will be the highest placing player on a person's team.

Only 3 players feels kinda restrictive. How about a team of 5?

EDIT: Was typing out my response when that post showed up, lol. Basically the same idea, though.

It's all good! Hope my response didn't come off as cold. I want everyone's voice to be heard. This is a great, fun idea and you had a big part in putting it into reality. Looks like we may be sticking to 3 people though? If you can corral the votes (we have Grexeno ) then I'm more than willing to up it to 5.

No worries, it didn't come off as cold or anything. I was at work at the time typing up my initial reply and was surprised when I refreshed and you had the whole thing all ready to go and organized so quickly. I had just been putting out feelers for interest anyway, wasn't sure what format would be most appropriate this early, so I appreciate you running the ball with it. :)

Besides, I already have this contest in the bag, anyway. I picked the future Final 3!
Feel free to quote this post when they are the first 3 boots and/or I finish dead last.

Alright, I skipped this entire season because the last few seasons of Survivor have kinda burned me out and I was losing interest. Now that it's over, is it worth watching? The whole twist seemed really stupid and liable to disrupt the entire game in really unfun ways, so I've been pessimistic from the start.

God no. I would say this season was worse than the last couple season's easily.

But I hated this season almost throughout the whole thing. People were liking it, so there very well could be varying opinions.

I didn't even feel compelled to watch the finale, and that hasn't happened since I think Nicaragua.

I actually liked it more than I expected. I wouldn't say it was great or even good, but I can't agree with anyone that says it was bad. This is no One World.

This season literally made me pessimistic and worry for this shows future.

In a recent future with hubbub about too many twists, advantages and idols this show was a new high mark of bullshit. That they then parted with the casting director thinking that somehow was the issue is even more worrying.

I think it's a fair stretch to say they think the casting was the sole problem and that parting with her was the result. There's potentially a whole lot going on behind the scenes and we don't know anything about it. Her leaving might have nothing at all to do with fan backlash - it's not like anyone who would know has commented on it as far as I know.

We'll see how the next two seasons go. If they haven't learned, I'll agree there's cause for concern. Devens and Ben both finding such a huge number of idols was definitely a negative. But it is true that the relatively boring cast would not have supported a season where they weren't making it interesting in that way, so it's not just the idols that are a problem.
