The genre you know from Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Kung Fury, Hotline Miami games, Stranger Things and the movie Drive.
From it's resurgence in the 2010's from French Electro and Nudisco roots the genre has grown and prettymuch evolved in many directions. Some follow the John Carpenter cinematic style, some go for the Moroder dance beats. Others have evolved from that into Perturbator and Carpenter Brut we know today. They all still have that soul of the 80's music in there whether it's the instruments or samples used or just in the artstyle and mood of the music.
