The genre you know from Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Kung Fury, Hotline Miami games, Stranger Things and the movie Drive.

From it's resurgence in the 2010's from French Electro and Nudisco roots the genre has grown and prettymuch evolved in many directions. Some follow the John Carpenter cinematic style, some go for the Moroder dance beats. Others have evolved from that into Perturbator and Carpenter Brut we know today. They all still have that soul of the 80's music in there whether it's the instruments or samples used or just in the artstyle and mood of the music.

I really enjoy this genre but rarely seek out new material. Gonna follow this thread in order to keep up with your suggestions.

Survive, Ogre and Night Runner are a couple of artists that I frequently listen too. Makeup and Vanity set, which I was introduced to in the earlier thread, and Cliff Martinez soundtracks are ace too.

The above Com Truise track is pretty neat as well. Thanks, Super Hype!

My latest very best favourite findings have been Wolf and Raven: https://wolf-and-raven.bandcamp.com/album/ace-of-space and Gloom Influx: https://gloominflux.bandcamp.com/album/first-lp

And the bestest Halloween album of alltime was just released recently from Cluster Buster: https://future80s.bandcamp.com/album/midnight-maimer

Right? I was looking for it but couldn't find it either. Weird.

Thanks for bringing it back though. I didn't post much in the old thread but was always checking out the discussions. Synthwave has recently been one of my most listened-to genres of music and I regularly found a lot of new favorite songs/artists from that thread. Looking forward to seeing this thread evolve!

Subscribing to watching this thread.

I liked Perturbator's latest EP, New Model, even if it was more metal than synthwave. Not as good as Sexualizer, but if he wants to try different styles that's OK with me.

Really disappointed with the direction Trevor Something has gone. He was one of my favourite artists in the genre, but seems his latest stuff is more Stone Roses sounding than synth.

Finally, someone made this thread!

The old one's still there, in Off-Topic Community. It just got removed from subscribed threads.

I have appreciated the work of Volkor X ever since playing a cool little game called Badass Inc. a while back. This is his?/her?/their? latest track and although it's a bit of a slow burn, there's the attention to detail and emotion I've come to expect from Volkor's stuff:

Yay, this thread is back.

God, I need Dance with the Dead and Makeup and Vanity Set to perform in the UK.

Great to see this thread. I remember Drive having a unique soundtrack, then Hotline Miami, then Miami Connection, then that Kavinsky Outrun album coming out, like it was a whole "wave" of music and style that didn't disappoint.

Oh man, thank you for making this thread! The old one led me to discover this amazing genre of music I would have never known about otherwise. The old one had disappeared so I assume the OP must've deleted it during the implosion.

I think it was EL's doing and not OP's.
