You know how raven got nerfed with stop flow? No problem for patty though, risky cast along with A button gets you stop flow plenty of times with patty, not to mention marvelous fountain.
To quote myself from my last post:

''They nerfed it on PS3. Basically, on 360, you could spam stop flow without any drawback. In the PS3 version Raven gets tired after 3 uses so he need to rest a bit, it's a small nerf but yeah. "

ned_ballad : Karol will grow on you, his interactions with Yuri as the game progress makes him a solid character. Early on though, not so much. And I feel for the re-release the colour doesn't pop out as much as they did on 360 and PS3, I think there is a comparison screenshot somewhere but yeah, it still look pretty good.

Does Judith get better lol

Because right now she's just a bland nothing of a character and she stands out when in conversations because she's so emotionless and monotone...

But yea, Karol is starting to grow on me. I still have no use for him in my team though, but he's okay to have around in cutscenes.

I just finished Act 2, it has been really good! I loved all the interaction between party members and everyone had a spotlight moment. Some of the best moments are without any doubt Karol, in particular
when he saves the team by himself in the ice zone, and how he finally reacted after Don's death
The last battle besides has been really tough, I had to level up from level 46 (when I lost 3 times) to level 50 (at that point I won in the first chance, without having to use so many life bottles - or as they are called in English localization - as in the previous chances).
I read in the past the Act3 isn't as the same level as Act2 for many people, but I hope it will be a great conclusion anyway.

This thread is remarkably active for a month old thread for a port of a 10 year old game
This isn't a Colette costume, it's Mithos but yeah, Patty's pretty cool.

ned_ballad hmm personally yeah she gets better, though I don't know how far you are.
I finished Part 1 and then played for another hour. I just got Rita back into my party and we're about to go down the elevator into the labor camp.

Phew I just done verifying some of the missables for Act 3 and Kouli's guide lacks detailed descriptions which I'll fix in my next update to the missables checklist guide.

Spoiler for Dog Map Quest:
The blue territory mark is misleading as the game keep track of where you rest on the fields instead. As I didn't do this sidequest on my 360 playthrough, I thought I glitched my playthrough for good....

Also just got Flynn as permanent party member and many more missables to do before I'm off to the final dungeon... plot-wise.

you know what, I'm really starting to hate this game..

The difficulty spike at bosses it almost as bad as Shining Resonance Refrain at this point. I tried the
Belius
last night and got party wiped, bu t everything was easy up to that point. So I spent a couple hours grinding up 2 levels and buying upgraded equipment for everyone and got to 1 level above the boss. I go back to the and stay at the Inn.... Shit, I didn't save and now it won;t let me save before the boss battle.... WTF.

I'm a little annoyed at this point because I know if I don;t win I will have lost the entire grind session and have to start back at before last night. Whelp, my fears are confirmed now as I tried the boss again and still got destroyed once she splits.

Such BS..... and wasted hours of grinding....

Pretty much, at least it cannot be missed or failed so you can wait at the end of the game (and you should) before tackling that on. It's pretty fast to do as well, every named places are a potential place for marking. Like near Halure for example there is south of halure, east of halure, west, north and so on, it's all about checking the menu ever so often just to see if the place you're at is differently named. I didn't realize how easy it was until I did it again in the DE.

I agree on that as a quick search got me a few old Gamefaqs threads back in 2009 (lol) and one of the post mentions about fields which the game keeps track to trigger the scene at Aurnion. So the Dog Map bar progress are not exactly representative of the quest progress...

Well since I'm overlevel and have lots of Gald/casino chips, it took me around 15 mins to cover most of the "missable" fields.

At least Repede "killed" off Little Wolf in Aurnion.

It's crazy how fast it is to get a tons of chips at the casino. It took me a little bit over 1h a while ago to go from 100 chips to over 1 million chips to purchase every unique items + a 2nd risky ring.

I got it several times including stuff like...

TRTi95f.jpg

Yeah I got that message too. Just once though, pretty recently, 80+ hours into the game and in docked mode. Happened when the game was trying to load a battle in that new dungeon that wasn't in the xbox360 version.

Then there is the crashes that seem to happen after the end of skits, but those seem to be exclusive to handheld mode. Happened like two or three times in 80 hours.

Most of the time it's definitely fine, but the crashes are so random and losing lots of progress, especially in a jrpg, is a nightmare, so I save a lot more and sometimes when in handheld mode even avoid activating skits until I get a chance to save.

Love the game enough to deal with it, and the portable aspect of the switch is just too much of a plus to play another version, but... That shouldn't be happening really..... Smh

Finally updated my missables checklist after verifying a handful of post-Aurnion missables (including Judith's Brioniac and the Dog Map). The amount of optional sidequests before the final dungeon is A LOT.

Flynn is really slow even with persian boots.

Agility isnt doing much in this game?

Flynn feels pretty "tanky" unlike Yuri and any agility equipments doesn't seems to improve his speed... besides cooking that boost agility.

  • In Capua Nor, you can find Nan if you have completed 50% of the Monster Book (Monster Book Part 1)

Does anyone know where she is exactly? I'm about to end Act 2 and I still haven't found her.

  • In Nordopolika, if you have cooked 600 times and Patty has three recipes MASTER, talk to the person to the right of the Shop (PS3 Version)

600 times with Patty or in general?

For Nan. if I'm not mistaken, just walk towards the intersection near the inn and it will trigger automatically. Also I need to update my checklist guide that you'll still be able to get that scene even in Act 3 as I don't think you can reach 50% by the end of Act 2 on first playthrough. Probably I'm guessing it is for second playthrough where one forgot to use Magic Lens for most of the monsters...

For cooking, the total amount of cooking with any characters.

I'm not quite at that point yet, but what's the best grinding spot in the game? You can use spoiler tags, but I did play Vesperia back when it released on 360.
Best grinding spot will probably be in both optional dungeons, the Labyrinth of Memories and Necropolis of Nostalgia. The grinding is only worth doing with 10x EXP, you can finish the game easily around level 60-65 ish.

Whole game spoilers

I'm done with the second act, the whole "There is a Barrier Blastia around the whole planet" is really a cool plotpoint, too bad Alexei is really a shitty character, so the whole part leading up to the reveal is just meh. I really wish they had done more with the Adephagos, iirc it's just a corrupted Entelexeia?

Overall the plot is just so bland, even the locations and the game world are bland. The game's story is really carried of by its strong cast.

Finished the game just now. Truly a fun experience. I mean all Tales games are, to me, anyway (well, okay... Most of them at least).

The ending was somewhat... Abrupt, imo, but I won't elaborate here cause I don't want to spoil. Big fan of the credits theme by the way.

All in all a good game, not my favorite tales but at least Top 3.

(Read below for me going on a slight tangent about the series as a whole)

Anyways, now that this is done and I have already played both Symphonia ones, Abyss on the 3DS, and Zestiria and Berseria as well... Gotta wait for the new one. Unless they decide to port either Xillia or Graces F to current gen consoles too, because those are the ones onl available on PS3, and I ain't got one.

Though it's been 11 years since I last played the first Symphonia game so I might replay that. Tried it out on my Wii recently (Yay for backwards compatibility) and it worked, but the resolution made my eyes bleed (how did we ever think that was acceptable???), so I got it for 5 bucks on steam sale. I really like to avoid playing on PC though. I see the benefits, but it's just too much of a hassle for me xD. So it'll probably be a while before I replay that. Got Berseria on ps4 since they added it to their hits series for 20 bucks (originally played it on my PC before I had a ps4).

Ofc there are also the 2d titles + legendia, none of which are available in Europe (I think Phantasia is, in a crappy Gameboy Advance version I'd rather not play), so really I am done for now with the series, until a new one releases. And with the waiting they are making us do they better put out a good one! Also it better be a worldwide release or so help me God...

OK I guess now I need to use the spoiler tag...
I just realized that what Yuri said to Duke at the end of the game ("See you around!") is the same thing he said to Flynn at the end of The First Strike when he left. Not sure if intentional, but I think so.

Yes, I am a sucker for details like that.

Just finished Vesperia today. Overall I liked it, but by the last third or so I was ready for it to be over. The spirit-hunting part at the end really did feel like unnecessary padding, and most of the dungeon gimmicks in the latter half of the game were kind of uninspired. And the last like ten bosses all feel like massive damage sponges - some of the boss battles in this game really feel more like a test of endurance if you haven't grinded or levelled up using the DLC.

But a really charming cast, even if they really leaned into some established anime tropes. This is probably up there with Symphonia for me, definitely above Phantasia and Abyss, which were the other two I've played.

I also wish the side content was a lot less obscure to hunt down, but I approached it as just mostly ignoring it and enjoying a random little scene when I revisited an old location. Like, there was that one scene where Estelle and Rita find a baby, which I don't know if it was part of a larger event line, but I don't think you even get a title or anything. Just a cute little scene.

The credit sequence was also great, so many adorable drawings there. I wish there had been an actual epilogue where we check in with the characters, but I guess that's the closest thing we get.

Now I'm ready to not play another Tales game for about another decade, lol.

you should be able to get a second hand ps3 for like $80 or so.
The Symphonia collection is like $10 on amazon right now
xillia is like $10
xillia 2 is like $20
graces is like $15

and they sometimes go cheaper on digital sales.

my point is if you want more tales games investing in a ps3 just for them isn't horrible. 5 games and a console would run you under $180 which is what the price of 3 new games would run you :P

edit: I reread and saw you were europe based, but still the prices shouldn't be that different. in fact I think I saw collections for symphonia and graces in one package and one for both graces.

Thanks for the info! I am sure I could afford that, point being my gaming backlog in general is huge, so I am occupied enough for them to get the idea of porting other games to current gen consoles too... Though if I ever end up actually catching up with my backlog I will look into this :)

This happens to me, too. Which is why I save frequently as possible. Though from my experience, it only crashes the game during a battle, or hard locks the entire console during a skit.

There seems to be a nasty bug in Handheld mode where your console will lock up after a skit, watched or skipped.

Had it 3 times so far. Pretty annoying.
