At this point it doesn't even really seen worth the trouble. Better to save it for a new game (lol).
I don't expect them to throw anything away. Maybe...
But "fixing" competitive mode is such a... waste of time. It ain't gonna increase the player numbers at this point. People already playing might appreciate it but it won't change the fact that they're already playing.
I also don't expect a sequel. I wish they would make one, for many many many reasons, but I know they won't.
It would be great to have every class feel viable most of the time, rather than specialized, but there's so much variability in maps that it might not always be possible. One example is the Thermal Thruster now gives the Pyro more and better options on when it can engage or disengage, and increases their usefulness in a bunch of spaces they were really weak in before. Id like to see more design in that direction for other classes, but without risking homogenization"
I think this as well. It definitely isn't newbie friendly other than understanding the bare minimum about the gameI do think TF2 needs a much better tutorial to help new players
I always thought they were still working on making comp better?
Yeah, I figured that much, but it'd still be nice to see something come out for the dedicated TF2 playersIt doesn't matter, the people who still care about 6v6 TF2 (or even realize it exists) is tiny and the game is never going to draw a significant amount of new players over ten years after release. The only possible thing that could save comp TF2 is if they aggressively pushed it (significant cash prizes, pushing it in CSGO tourneys, etc.), which could maybe generate a lot of interest if it starts pulling former TF2 players back from pro Overwatch. Needless to say, this is an extraordinarily unlikely scenario.

They missed their chance years ago. The best bet is that they release a TF3 after people stop caring about Overwatch but before Blizzard makes a sequel, but that probably won't happen either.
I think I've read about this in interviews with some OW pros. Maybe Harbleu and Seagull?

I'm not sure who all would be willing to come back to TF2, not that it matters I doubt TF prize money will ever reach Overwatch prize money.
In other news you can now vote for the Saxxy awards. The nominees will be announced on Wednesday.
Our own donhonk worked on the amazing Agent Gunn which I think has a pretty good chance of winning a Saxxy (maybe even the best overall):
Gotta give a shout-out to Leak!, which is maybe the most visually impressive SFM I've seen:

When I spoke to him over steam yesterday he was very excited about winning. I'm pretty jealous that he gets to meet the TF2 team, hopefully he'll give us a report after his visit.

If only Valve had an update to celebrate this moment.
Does ResetEra host a server or game night or anything? I've basically been playing in casual for the last couple years after my servers died out. It's still my go to game after work, but random queue doesn't have all the same magic the community days did.
A huge part of the appeal of TF2 for me was the community aspect, and a combination of Quick-Play and the game being over ten gosh darn years old had already slowly killed my preferred servers. Valve servers were the next best thing, but they never really captured that aspect and I'd just play for an hour or so stomping every now and then. Then matchmaking comes, kills the Valve servers, and doesn't even have the courtesy to work properly for like half a year. I came back and played a bit with Jungle Inferno, but it didn't last super long.
I still like TF2 a good bit, and the actual game bits felt like they're in a pretty good place when I last played. It's just not the same without my old buddies in that dumb 24/7 Egypt/Dustbowl server I spent too much time on as an undergrad, y'know? /oldperson
but hey at least valve finally acknowledged that pl_swiftwater is a pretty cool map
I remain unconvinced.
Are you sure about this? ;)Signing up for the community spotlight has finally paid off.
Of course right now is a super dead time for TF2. We haven't even gotten a patch (aside from turning off the Jungle Inferno update) for over a month and I'm not expecting anything big until the summer at the earliest. Oh well what can you do?
New update in a little bit, since matchmaking and item servers are offline for 30 minutes.
Can't wait for those hot new localization files to hit my computer.
