Telling sick people to be nice to people trying to kill them is just as toxic as anything Bernie Bros ever did

People are talking about coalition building. Well here's some coalition building advice for you. Maybe you should also understand why people who are personally effected by the current election feel the way they do about you?

This is the greatest take the site will ever have but this thread will get locked and you will get ban. Sadly

Listen, snake emojis are the important issue of our era. Just remember that there's an incredibly wealthy and powerful politician on the other side of that monitor. We're all human here. Supposedly.

I think this is a good point. I have seen a lot of people equating the actions of powerful people being toxic with powerless people being angry at the polices of politicians.

People seem more disgusted with their perception of the internet’s unwashed masses of takes than money completely overriding voice and buying privileged positions in our government to reinforce and expand their power to exploit workers.

OP you have to understand they don't care. I'm not sure when Dems suddenly cared about costs of things. I thought the fact that there are people who may have the Corona virus but refuse to get tested due to the bill would change some minds but nope.

And they view healthcare as abstract. Not as something with real consequences, so when you put it that starkly it makes them "uncomfortable".

"Increasing the number of sick people able to get help with a plan that actually has a chance of passing through congress isn't enough! Only reducing that number to 0 with a plan that isn't likely to pass, fronted by a man who is less likely to carry the down ballot and take Congress from the Republicans, and who doesn't support removing the Fillibuster even if he did, and who has never managed to get a bill he authored through Congress in his thirty years there is worthy of discussion. Eat shit and die if you think otherwise and how dare you criticize me for saying that!"

You're right OP. I blame some of it on the ESPN-style political reporting we see these days, to be honest. Politics is treated as a team sport and entertainment, with the people who follow it being more like fans and cheerleaders than normal citizens who are concerned with policy or ideology. It's often forgotten that there are lives on the line, both in the US and abroad.

As someone that hasn't been able to see a doctor in over a decade with no insurance with multitude of illnesses that is on their last legs, seeing the gloating and dismissive snipes about M4A made me utterly disconnect from anything political for the foreseeable future. Getting told to shut up and to 'not just vote for Biden, but do it with a smile'. Coalition by ass.

There are bigger things at stake than getting mad about snake emojis or people factually pointing out evidence of Biden's cognitive decline. "Civility" doesn't pay for fucking cancer treatment.

Is this a bleed over from the Primaries thread about Bernie supporter toxicity vs Biden or is this something else entirely?
If the former, while I'd prefer the former vastly in healthcare plans/ideals, Biden will still be an improvement over the current administration and their plans.

Speaking as a sick person.

Thank God there were not lots of people who thought like you when social security was pushed through. Obamacare was gutted before Trump took office so how is Biden magically going to "fix" it when he denies the very problem which will keep him from fixing it?

Sanders and Warren knew, there is no compromise with Republicans anymore. You have to take drastic action to do what needs to be done.

And yeah Biden passed some bills. He passed the bill to make Bankruptcy worse, he passed the Crime Bill, he was trying to fuck up desegregation of schools. So yeah he's definitely passed some stuff.

Good shit OP. Tired of being told that I should be happy with a return to the status quo because "well it's not Trump." We shouldn't have to settle for "just good enough" when "just good enough" only applies to able-bodied cis white people. We can do better, we should be demanding better, and if those demands are loud and angry and make some people upset, then so be it.

Here's the thing though- Bernie was never getting M4A passed. Not a chance. Real M4A is a decade off.

I kept reading in the primary thread "Biden's healthcare plan will literally kill people on this board" and I'm thinking, at least the public option has a chance of passing, and that will help some people.

Basically this but in a nicer way.

And I'm not gloating about it. Healthcare in this country is fucked and everyone deserves to see a doctor.

^ This.

If you guys want to see something that at least has a modicum of hope passing, you should be supporting the Biden plan. Bernie's M4A was just never going to happen. That's the reality.

Then people have to vote. Bernie had the momentum going into ST and got slaughtered. It's time to do some soul-searching if you support Bernie and other progressives. Why isn't your message resonating as much as you clearly think it should?

Of course, you're free to vent your frustrations online... But at some point, we've gotta see the receipts.

More an anti-Biden supporters thread.
Alright, well if that's the case then all I have to say is that Bernie himself endorsed Hillary in 2016 and will undoubtedly endorse Biden if he wins the 2020 primary. Anyone who fails to see the greater purpose of the coalition against the GOP is unwittingly doing more harm to themselves than Biden could ever do.

Look, I'm all for Bernie's policy, but if people think there's a higher chance that Biden can be elected and that he can get his agenda passed compared to Bernie's hail mary all or nothing M4A then that's a legitimate opinion. They're not trying to kill you. They're trying to find the best way to help people the quickest.

I have no clue what this thread is about. I assume it’s Sanders supporters complaining about being called out by Warren?

Yep, sad but that's the reality. I think M4A being a decade off is optimistic at best.

I'm angry because we have already seen 8+ years of moderates running the show and it's lead to fuck all outside of 'reaching across the aisle' to shitty people and authoritarians that leads us to the right at a slow pace as opposed to break neck speed.

Andrew Yang for fucks sakes said it best. Trump is a SYMPTOM of a much larger issues. If M4A, Student Loans, Minimum wage aren't addressed with zero fucking compromise we are going to keep getting the same fucking bullshit.

My home state of Virginia is about to sign a bill that will put a hard cap on Insulin costing more than $50. This was only possible because the governor didn't cave on his socialist ideals. This is an immediate massive positive benefit for countless people living in VA. Imagine how lukewarm this bill would be if we went the 'moderate' way and bargained for $200 monthly as opposed to like $500.

IF Biden wins the general I will guarantee you it's nothing more than lame duck platitudes for four years where either nothing gets done or the flesh turtle in the house lets it rot in backlog.
Additionally would those same Democrats put their vote in for those bills if they knew for a fact that Mitch would pass it through?

Republicans voted MASSIVELY to obliterate ACA when Obama was in office because they KNEW Obama would never sign it into law. Yet the moment Trump came along a lot fewer of them were willing to pull that trigger.

Basically; I want the pressing healthcare needs actually addressed and watching things boil down to 'Bernie's plan OR YOU WANT US ALL TO DIE' is frustrating because... I actually want to see shit fixed and I don't see Bernie's path as the one likely too actually obtain results that can tangibly save lives.

M4A or any form of universal healthcare will never happen in America. The rich people make too much money off of the healthcare system to ever allow it.

If we don't all act nice to the politicians that are actively trying to kill us then the facade gets harder to maintain.
