yes! loving these crossover events
no matter how bad you are, you can unlock the theme in one hour, tops.
Probably September's Grand Prix. Would be cool if they kept it going with the crossover Grand Prixes; at this rate it would be Link's Awakening in October, Luigi's Mansion in November, and Pokemon in December or something.
I feel bad a bit because I only play when the crossover events happen.

Yeah; if you really suck, you just need to be dedicated enough to immediately throw 100 matches to get enough points, lol.
Or you could try a bit, and get it way quicker.
It'd make sense to do something like that. It might also make sense to start repeating events once they've racked up enough of them. Either way I think there'll be some kind of chance to get these themes again in future.
I just got Nintendo Online, to play t his with my new 8bitdo SN30Pro+ controller and I gotta say, it feels good.

What does "theme" mean in this context? I thought the Switch didn't have themes like the 3DS? Is this a Tetris 99-specific theme?

It's a theme for the Tetris 99 game.
This was the Splatoon 2 theme from the previous event.
They'll probably show it in the Fall Direct or something, alongside them mentioning that the physical version is available.
I wish we could play regularly without the skins as an option though.

You know The Tetris Company is really an accountant living in the mountains and has no idea the Nintendo Switch exists. This is classic Nintendo Tetris.
You need 100 points to get the theme, You get more points the better you score, but at a baseline even if you suck you get 5 points per match. So getting the themes is trivial even for people who are not skilled
