people with dad bods deserve respect

but they must also remember that showing them respect was only recently popularized, and thus they must have empathy for those still not given respect

I have little idea why this narrative is continually pushed, but moreso how these surveys are so often able to get stats that support it. From anecdote, I'm relatively into bodybuilding, and have regularly seen men and women spout the 'I dislike muscles', 'I prefer the Dad bod', only to go googly-eyed and awed as soon as shirts are off.

You can't convince me that if you were to line-up the dad bods, and fit athletic physiques, the flabby dad-bods would come out on top.

I can understand the perspective of seeing a chiseled muscular body as try-hard an obsessive. A lot of women actually prefer older men with "dad-bods" and by that, I mean something like George Clooney or Jon Hamm, where he's not fat but he's not muscular by any means. There's this sense that you're more comfortable and confident.

I say this as someone who was obese, then had a chiseled body with 7% body fat, and is now rocking something bit more dad-bod-like (which I'm not comfortable with at all)

Edit:

From my experience think a lot more women find this:

More attractive than this:

I'm guessing from some of these posts a dad bod is more desirable cuz so many gym addicts act like douchebags.

This really is it. A lot of women don't want to deal with the self-obsession, rigid dieting, and bullshit that a lot of gym or fitness addicts live for, not in a long-term relationship. I've been one of those dudes at points in my life and it's miserable to deal with for a partner.

From my experience attending multiple locations, the dad bod makes sense. A lot of guys hit the gym at Planet Fitness focusing on muscles and size, but tend to ignore their gut.

Even though each PF has a zillion cardio machines, the men skip it or at minimum give it 15 mins. Its the women who do it right and work out hard on the cardio and some will lift in addition

hmmm... youtube recently recommended me a college dropout video. the guy was interviewing some college girls on a beach and the vast majority of them said they prefered the dad bod for the following reasons:

- dad bod guys make them feel beautiful in comparison
- dad bod guys dont nitpick and make them feel like shit for overeating
- arent full of themselves, not as vain

there were still several girls who were 100% for guys with sixpacks and insisted they had no respect for guys who dont workout. these girls made more sense to me at the time. but now, im not so sure. when there is smoke there is fire. too bad im already married to a woman who doesnt care for dad bods and makes me go to the gym regularly. where the fuck were these girls when i was single lol

If it means FIT but with average body fat, I can see it. If it means unfit, high body fat and just overall FAT, then I find this very stupid and potentially dangerous for people's health.
And I'm going to go with probably more than a few women visualize something closer to the former, and more than a few men visualize something closer to the latter.
You have to respect everybody (ie. not shame anyone for being unfit), but praising or encouraging such thing is not the way to go.

I also find it strange. I was single for a long time myself. I was rejected multiple times for being overweight. Obese actually, but the actual definition of obese (which is much smaller than people think... what most people would say is chunky). Fast forward, I'm cut and built now, and now I get way more shit for my body than I ever did when I was fat. People rip on me regularly for being fit.

It's very strange to me.

What's wrong with planet fitness? They seem fine I go there like 4 times a week and see people squatting and the staff is always nice. I've never seen a pizza day before at mine.

Is there really this elitist attitude about gyms? I guess I've never noticed. It's always just been a "oh that's good you even go at all" type of response if someone even cares enough to ask.

Now this is correct. Women see dad bod as James Bond, and see body builders as lunkhead douchebags.

How many dudes get to bodybuilder size though really? Shit is hard and takes years. Even Daniel Craig getting in the shape he did for Casino took a shit ton of work. Compare to what he looked like I'm Layer Cake. Even what is deemed to just be an athletic look as an adult with a slow metabolism is a lot of work.

Every time this dad body thing comes up you've got people shown who are clearly overweight to powerlifters with 20 inch biceps and 16 inch forearms who don't really have a reason you cut down. It's like people don't know what someone who doesn't exercise at all looks like.

am I just the only one with ugly parents of then?
You need to make your dad remarry, then one night your stepmom will be drunk and bored because your dad is too busy with work. She will come into your room unannounced and initiate a blowjob, all the while commenting about how you are bigger than your father.

That is how it works.

I'd be interested in what qualifies as dad bod. I've lost 13kgs going to the gym this year and I was chubby earlier, and now I still have a gut but lost a lot of fat elsewhere. People definitely find me more attractive now than before- but am I still in the "dad bod" category? whereas before i might have been just fat

Yeah half the time dad bod is mentioned they show a dude who looks like he worked out for 10 years straight just not cut. In theory it makes sense like dad bod could be a weekend warrior who doesn't have time to get all the way in shape but often the examples shown are terrible . A dad bod isn't meant to be dude who squats 300 but has higher body fat.

Edit- oh also how many dudes get to bodybuilder size ? That's about .001% not just working out for years. On drugs you still take 10 years.

This is all lies. Put 2 clones with exact same personality and looks with the exception of the body on stage - One has the dad-bod, the other one more of a six-pack and let 10 women/men pick their hunk. Easy science!

And of course what is the exact definition of a dad-bod? A person not skinny nor fat? A person hitting the gym, but has no six-pack? Nobody knows and it all sounds stupid to me.

Also people posting super fit pictures of Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig, calling them dad-bods. That has to be a joke right?

Nice try I used to work cable I didn't have one house filled with cheerleaders who couldn't pay the repair bill and wanted some "Other" ways to pay. They were all in committed relationships and we focused on their studies and the bright futures ahead of them.

- Nothing in the article states that anyone finds Dad bods more attractive than fitter bods

- This was not a survey of a Planet Fitness members

- They clearly didn't only ask people who actually are attracted to men, so really this survey has little bearing on whether as a man you'd attract someone with a Dad bod or not

It's just a dumb feel good survey being skewed by the "body positivity" fitness company.

Not for me .... unless I misunderstand no makeup means you see person as is which beats out makeup pillow mornings every time for me .... I'm not aware how you can just hide a gut
Ah, sorry, I meant in reference to an older comic where guys say they prefer women with no make up, but the person is still putting on make-up.

Of course planet fitness likes dad bods, it's their main demographic.

And the thing that's attractive about the dad bod isn't the body itself, it's the complacency and other comfort factors that are usually bundled with it. It's also not as intimidating as dating a ripped dude, in regards to not having to worry about matching their physique or lifestyle.

Love daddy Dom 🥰

Good. A sixpack is often just for obsessed psychos (you know it psycho, don't act all upset). Women should run from men like that. Into my fleshy dad bod arms.
