when I saw the characters faces I got so angry I threw all my video games out of the window and set fire to my flat! Some might say that was an overreaction but I'm entitled to get angry if I like. They just should look exactly like they do in the films. That's what I wanted. Fuck the developer for wanting to have the own take on the ip or if the actors from the movie did want to spend weeks in mocap and recording dialogue! It what I wanted!

Has SE actually shown any gameplay footage of The Avengers yet?! The CG trailer was pretty bad but I'm still interested to see the actual game.

Yeah the character models and designs in the square enix Avengers are atrocious. It's seriously bad. Cap looks like he's one donut away from being an overweight cop. Thor looks like he's wearing his pappa's armor. Black widow looks like a bored house wife wearing a red wig. Wtf is up with iron man's mask? Why is it so scrunched?

The only decent design is hulk and it's really hard to mess that up.

It looks as bad as the batman Arkham designs. They were bad too.

Marvel UA 3 on the other hand has great character designs but looks like a budget game

Marvel Ultimate Alliance looks like good dumb fun to me gameplay wise. The story and presentation also just feel like it engages me more that Square Enix's game. And I think that game looks really good on the technical side obviously, but it just feels like they took all the life out of the colors of that game. Hope both games end up pleasing those looking forward to them.

I was thinking about that when the Ultimate Alliance trailer showed up on the Nintendo Direct. Something just doesn't feel right about the bootleg design of crystals dynamics interpretation of the characters. Insomniac did juch a great job with Spiederman.

They both look bad to me. The switch game just look horrible in motion while in the avengers game the faces just look off

Ultimate Alliance 3 looks good, like what I liked out of the first two games.

Avengers we know basically nothing about except for VAs and the fact that the characters look like they're based off of a porn parody. It could also be good or bad but like....there are very basic questions about the game that are still unanswered.

It's so weird, cause I really didn't like the look of MUA3... until I saw the Avengers. Now I know it can get worse.

Both don't look too hot from an artistic pov. Have to see Avenger's gameplay yet to form an opinion, but from what I've seen from MUA3....pretty ass tbh:
hectic, crowded, isometric bs. No thanks, simply not my cup of tea.

Thor in Avengers is just the worst. I would be fine if they at least gave him Liam Hemsworth's face.

Back in the Marvel Heroes days I loved the look and art of Marvel Future Fight over the PC version of Marvel Heroes. You don't need fancy graphics to have a better looking game artistically. I still like the art of Marvel Future Fight and would rather the Avengers game looked like that with better textures, and higher polygons (MFF is a cell phone game).

And yes, stop hiring the same darn voice actors especially together. Get some new sounds, new actors, it's like if every major Hollywood movie kept hiring the cast of Fast and Furious together with a few missing every now and then.

I don't particularly like the looks of the characters in either game.

I always liked the UA3 look, so I'd argue instead that UA3 makes Avengers look even worse than it already would on its own, by showing how a more comic book style could have looked better than realistic cheapo MCU doubles.

At the end of the day what matters is fun. And Ultimate Marvel Alliance 3 looks incredibly fun ; while Avengers doesn't.

I wouldn't make that claim based on 0 gameplay footage and very little info about the actual game. We're discussing the design here, and as bad as Avengers seems to be in terms of visual style, it could still be a very fun game.

Yeah, as some of you said in this thread: the problem with Square's game is that it stays very close to MCU in everything apart from the character models. This just feels off. When I played Superman for PS4 I immediately felt as if I was in another Spiderman universe and my brain accepted it without a problem, because it is trained by different comic series.

That would be a rad game, lmao.

I like the designs, and I enjoy that they aren't tied to the MCU, if they change them a bit for sure it will be welcome but I'm okay with what we have right now.

I can't get over how boring and miserable that Avengers game looks. The complete polar opposite to Ultimate Alliance 3.

The character designs just look like some generic create-a-wrestler randomisations.

I'm sick of Troy Baker and Nolan North being in every game ever too, they both sound far too similar and the latter in particular just basically does the same boring voice for every role.

Character designs aside, MUA3 has always looked like goofy, dumb, B-tier fun to me, whereas the Avengers reveal gave me early 2000's movie tie-in vibes.

When they first announced this Avengers game, I pictured a super cool, stylistic art style. Not full comic-y, not full realistic. An interesting median.

What we got is... Well we know what we got. It's NOT that they don't look like their MCU counterparts, either. It's more like they don't even look right on their own. Their costumes shouldn't be ill-fitting. Thor's beard and Natasha's hair shouldn't look fake. None of it works.

They look like amateurs playing dress-up in cheap costumes rather than like costumed superheroes.

Ah! They look like actors pretending to be people instead of actually looking like people who are who they are. Peter and Mary Jane did not have this problem in Spider-Man PS4. They were believable.

I'm glad CD is listening to the feedback.

The simple reason why they're not going with a comic cel shaded style is simply because those won't market/sell as well.

I thought the same thing, when I saw the trailer I was like cool game but eeeeh to their faces/designs. They look way better to me in Ultimate Alliance 3, more style, more... I dunno, fun? More how I want them to look. Don't even know how to describe it really. I thought it was Japan vs 'western' style thing but UA3 just has SO MUCH MORE PERSONALITY. Even just looking at the cover art I'm excited to play as them all!

Getting real sick of hearing the same voices in all the games ever as well, I don't even really play many games lately and it still stands out. Like watching anime dub and hearing Goku's voice in a show, then bad Mexican accent Goku in another, then regular Goku again in the next show. Zzz.

If we didn't correlate these characters so much with their MCU adaptations, we'd be fine with them. They're adequate takes barring some Japanese-side SE CG facial animation which nearly looks last-gen. The in-engine facial animation is less distracting.

It looks good to me and despite disagreeing initially with some design notes, I'm willing to go along with them on riot Cap and extremely layered Thor.

MUA3 looks delightful though, yeah, but some of the animation work is clearly off in cutscenes.

Yeah but when we saw Spider-Man PS4 for the first time there was no Spider-Man on the MCU yet, not even a trailer. And we didn't even see Peter Parker.

Spider-Man PS4 debuted in E3 2016. The MCU Civil War movie came out a month earlier and a trailer that revealed Spidey was in the MCU came out before the movie was even shown in theaters.

Way more excited for Avengers, actually doing new stuff, seriously needs a quality pass on the characters though.

MUA3 doesn't even look as fun as MUA2 to me.
