Guitar Hero III was a phenomenon when it released... it's insane how much Activision fucked over that franchise within just a few years.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are "cheating" a bit on this list, seeing as the revenue-based ranking would include the expensive instrument peripherals.

Also, how is Spider-Man the best selling first party game when we know that Uncharted 4 has sold more than 15 million copies and the Last of Us sold more than 17 million copies cross-gen?

Spider-Man is my favorite game of 2018 not named Astro Bot Rescue Mission, but it has not sold more than 17 million copies in a couple of months.

I've never seen such an uninspired list. Fucking hell, no wonder Activision churns out this shit. I always knew a lot of people gobble that shit up like crazy, but I had no idea they did it on such a massive scale.

I knew COD was a behemoth but I thought in itd slowed down in the last few YEARS. Ghosts I sort of understand, everyone was gonna try new gen COD, but I wasn't expecting WW2.

Activision still with 8 out of 10.

Ahh, yes, true true. I wonder if the Call of Duty dominance would be the same if we opened it up worldwide. Somehow I doubt the list would shift too much. San Andreas at No. 3 all-time on PS in the US is crazy to me. Still the best GTA.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is high on the Playstation list and just came out 8 months ago. Really puts things in perspective with how much the PS userbase identifies with Rockstar games.

The numbers you're quoting are worldwide sales, whereas I think this ranking is based on NPD (meaning US sales).

It would still be remarkable to learn that Spider-Man sold more than TLOU, given how popular it was on both consoles it released in.

No idea whether both versions combined would dethrone Spider-Man, but I'd assume that NPD counts LoU and LoU Remastered separate.

In other words Playstation consumers largely buy the same as Xbox consumers and the arguments on the forums about exclusives are usually generated by the hardcore audience.

You can't draw that conclusion based on the top 10 best selling games. You need to look at the share of exclusive games in the overall platform.

Also this is a revenue chart. You could get UC4 and Last of us remastered for under $10 at times on PSN where as the vast majority of these spiderman sales would be $60 or close to it

What argument? That exclusives can push people to buy consoles? That's still true and a revenue based list from one country doesn't go against it.

In other words, this is a bad attempt at downplaying exclusives.

Remember these lists don't include bundle sales. TLOU was the main PS4 bundle for most of 2015, and UC4 was bundled heavily as well.

Of course Spider-Man was also bundled, but just remember bundles aren't counted and Naughty Dog games are heavily bundled.
