Good on Megalo Box with the number of nominations it was a fantastic series. BEST FIGHT SCENE though I can't pick just one it was an incredible year.

Those awards are dumb cause they always seem to be brigaded by the fans of one series which ends up winning everything with little regard for individual awards.

Also the whole best boy/girl thing is dodgy at best since a lot of anime fans seem to interpret that as 'best underage waifu/husbando'.

The Retsuko VA was sooooooo gud in Japanese. Her nuance and tone was just perfect.
It completely changed my mind about the whole tone and the series in general which was initially autoplayed in English for me.

I voted for Mazinger Z Infinity despite having not seen the movie yet and despite it probably going to end up losing to the MHA movie but screw it someone has to give the OG Super Robot anime property some love.

I'm fine with AOT missing most of the awards.
BUT
HOW
IN
DA
FUCK
DOES
IT
MISS
ANIMATION OR FIGHT?

then again I guess its not really a fight scene...

Also no Krista for Best Girl

all in all, nominees look good.

I dropped Violet Evergarden, Devilman Crybaby, and Zombieland Saga. Those are nominated for best AOTY?

Gonna give A Place Further Than the Universe and Hinamatsrui a shot. Also Bunny Girl Senpai.

I don't really agree with a lot of the nominations personally. But while I can understand that most of those are down to personal preference, there's one category that makes absolutely zero sense to me: best movie. Maquia got absolutely robbed. I don't even know how you could justify something like Fireworks over it. I don't even think I've seen a single person that actually liked Fireworks, versus the near universal praise for Maquia.

Megalobox for best animation also stands out as a pretty weird pick. The artstyle is great and 100% accomplishes the look the show is going for. But I found the actual animation part incredibly weak, particularly compared to some incredibly strong shows that came out this year.

Where the fuck is the best score category.

These categories suck ass. Where's Flashback in OP category. Who did they get to make these noms / categories.

In what world does Zombie Land Saga not get a nomination for best opening, but still get a nomination for all these other things including Anime of the Year? The op is probably my favorite part of the show.

Glad to see Violet Evergarden and A Place Further Than the Universe getting a lot of recognition, but that made it super hard to choose between the two when they shared categories.

Pretty solid nominations.
Gonna be kinda disappointed when My Hero wins best fight even though All might vs One for all is kinda lackluster as a fight.

My list would be:

  • Best Animation: Violet Evergarden
    [*]Best Opening: Kakegurui
    [*]Best ED: Megalobox
    [*]Best Film: N/A
    [*]Best Character Design: Devilman Crybaby
    [*]Best Boy: Haida
    [*]Best Girl: Hinata
    [*]Best VA (JP): N/A
    [*]Best VA (EN): N/A
    [*]Best Director: Masaaki Yuasa
    [*]Best Protagonist: Retsuko
    [*]Best Antagonist: Ryo/Satan
    [*]Best Fight: Satan vs Devilman
[*]Best Continuing series: The Ancient Magus' Bride
[*]Anime of the Year: A Place Further than the Universe

I am a simple soul. I see a A Place Further Than The Universe nominated in a category, I vote. (I'm still not over it.)

I also really need to watch Megalo Box.

No Grand Blue Crunchy? Really? It should have won best comedy of the year. Also disappointed Asobi Asobase wasn't mentioned either.

These are never good but imma whine about them anyway here we go

- Bloom Into You for best animation? There's some good storyboards but I wouldn't go thaaat far.
- Pretty surprised they didn't toss Franxx a best animation nom, since it would have been an easy way to hand it a nomination while sidestepping how bad it got trashed critically. And it's definitely up there for one of the best animated "big" series of the year.
- I literally don't have any idea how they pick the best OP/EDs but they lucked into Revue Starlight this year. god bless mebachi
- Hiroko Utsumi is a great shout for best director, you gotta feel for how badly that production fell apart despite her best efforts.

Devilman Crybaby is obviously gonna be this year's show to sweep, don't think anything else will even come close.
