Paris, France

I cannot believe they pulled that shit.

That's the stuff usually said by far-right idiots in France. I'm truly speechless now.

Almost all the 23 players of France were born in France. That makes them as French as any other French citizen, no distinction at all.

And, once again, the typical American thing of considering the entirety of the African continent as a single country.

That's some major bullshit. Truly disappointed by Noah.

I believe that those people should not be called Africans (you're born in France, you are French), and maybe the Daily Show is trying (in a very bad way) to underline France's daily racism that "forgets the color of the skin" only if they make the country look good.

Even in France, some people do call our team "full of africans and arabs" when, as you say, all of them are mostly French citizens.
When some players missed a goal, screams of "go back to your country if you can't put that ball in the net" could be heard in some places :/.

This is so bad. The argument that there are "good" immigrants (they aren't immigrants by the way) because they provide some sort of skill is already shitty enough (because fuck human dignity right) but this is just saying: Thanks for being a commodity but I'll still be keeping the one drop mindset.

It's just dumb. Black people dominate a significant amount of international athletic competitions and have for decades. Does anyone congratulate Africa when Usain Bolt wins a race? International football was one of the last bastions of white people dominating and that is clearly on its way out.

A lot of people are saying this, and even though it may be an attempt at poking fun at Frances xenophobia I think it's in poor taste and takes away from the French team members' national identity

As someoen who don't care about football and didn't follow the world cup: explain to me this "africa won the world cup" thing.

Is it possibly a comment on how if France had never colonized the African countries that they did those players would never have been born in France in the first place?

France produced by far the most world Cup players. Many of the African teams were loaded with French born players. That didn't get mentioned too much though.

Aren't the people making these comments ignoring the fact that the actual teams from African countries, presumably with 100% African members, did not win?

Yeah I saw that earlier and was really disappointed. But I'm willing to cut Noah some slack since he's from South Africa.
Bad segment and hopefully he'll hear some of the criticisms about it but overall I still think he's doing a pretty good job with the Daily Show from what I'm seeing on youtube.

I feel like they were trying to show some kind of respect to the migrational heritage of some of these French players and also celebrate how important racial diversity is in modern Western nations yet managed to fail at both.

Trevor Noah is a South African comedian known for his activism in opposition to racism. The framing of this OP is entirely at odds with the context and intent of this commentary.
