The Division 2 did poorly for real, Ubisoft was not joking.

A samey sequel, really close to the original, and also a GAAS game, a really competitive space.
It would be strange if it didn't do poorly.

I played a decent amount of this on ps4 but the map was so visually boring compared to the first me and some friends ended up dropping it when other stuff came out, I might try this again on PC cause it's so cheap

They put a lot of detail in the world but the mission design and story is really poor. Dropped it after the first few zones.

Pretty sure it was $4.99 USD on Epic Store a few weeks ago. Opened in Uplay anyways so same thing. Don't think this is that crazy of a price.

I played solo Division 1 and hated it because of dumb, repetitive mission design, bullet sponge enemies, shallow world and grinding. Does 2 improve on any of this and would I be able to enjoy it solo?

Lack of cross-play killed it for me, to be honest. Most of people I could play with played on PS4 so I also got it on PS4... And stopped playing cause I don't like playing this on a controller :/

Las Vegas could be cool or Paris. Hopefully they don't stick excursively with US.

Division 2 showed how integral the "Winter in NYC" aesthetic was to my enjoyment of the first game. Still played a ton of Div 2 though, just not as much as 1.

Well, mission variety, worldbuilding and enemy variety/combat can be improved, there's nothing in shlooters that prevents that. I'm mostly talking about single player campaign here, not planning on spending much time in multiplayer.
If you played the first, and didn't like it, I don't think there is anything in the second to change your mind.

I was really into The Division 1 for a while, i really liked Underground, and Survival was great, some global events where a blast to play, completed most of the "raids" (yeah well, you know...) with randoms after my playmates dissapeared, etc, but for some reason The Division 2 never managed to catch my attention, didnt like the change in the setting.

Now i might try it on pc if it does come out in gamepass.

Hear hear. Running around NYC in the dead of winter felt sooo good. Coming from a former-Manhattanite, it really captured how the city shuts down during a snowstorm. And also, to some extent the chaos that ensues during holiday season at the big department stores like Macy's and what was Toys R Us in Times Square.

Divison 2 is clearly a better game, but Massive nailed the setting so well in the first game, every setting that follows pales in comparison.

I think this is partially because the game is about to unveil/release it's big (free)DLC and kick off year 2 of its road-map where it will sell a new season pass. Get the new players in and try to keep as many of them as possible going into year 2.

Yeah, what do those passes cost? Because that's definitely a factor.

Though Wildlands never got such a steep cut, so this game underperforming is another factor.

Usually about 39.99 in whatever currency you use so that plus the base game is taking you very close to full retail price at launch.

I booted this up this weekend and it is a lot of fun to play but it isn't fun if you are by yourself. Feels pretty empty.

I liked it a lot. Worth it just for the cool environments and soundtrack! They dialed in on a lot of the good stuff from the original in a way I appreciated. If you can look past the grimdark military fetishism, it's got a lot going for it.

The bullet-sponginess isn't as bad because they've added armour to the big enemies which can be shot off. So if you expose a weak point, you can then hit the unarmoured spot to take them down pretty quick. They also have specialised weapons that have limited ammo as special drops, which you can save for named enemies.

A fully armoured big can be taken down with like 3 special sniper shots.

I've been playing it mostly solo (or with one other person responding to backup calls), because as I'm going through the campaign, the population for lower ranks is very low. The population is low in general. Playing solo is... okay.

For whatever reason I just find Div and Div2 to be pretty chill games that are nice to look at and fun to play around in for an hour or two here and there.

As to if it's better than Div, the improvements are incremental, and the core mechanics are largely the same. If you really enjoyed the first game and felt there were some small QoL opportunities, then Div2 is worth checking out, if you just throught Div was a boring slog, then Div2 isn't gonna change anything.

I mean, though Ubisoft found the sales underwhelming, wasn't it the 9th best selling game of 2019? Makes sense to discount heavily before Year 2 drops with, presumably, the first paid content for the game.

It would be the second time to pay extra (Year 1 season pass was the first).

As for the game itself...I'll echo what others have said.

If you like Div 1 and/or have a couple of friends willing to go through it with you it's not a bad time.

But if Div 1 didn't catch your interest, while getting up to the level cap as a solo player isn't necessarily a 'bad' time, it's not gonna get its hooks into you - the end-game didn't grab me at all.

I remember you could get it for £5 on the Epic Christmas sale (with the voucher?) ... and I skipped it. I had such high hopes for the first one after seeing the reveal trailers but I don't really want a bullet sponge grind fest.

Though, I may be being too harsh and it's probably a lot more fun in a group.

I don't have enough time to play the service games I already own (Monster Hunter, Destiny, FF14, Apex). I've been tempted a few times by this but I think like all the other times this has gone on sale, I'll think "huh, neat" and then move along. Hearing the tepid response from the active player hasn't been motivating, either.

Sorry, because all of the meaningful Year 1 pass content was free, just coming a week later, or requiring a little more time to unlock through gameplay, I forgot you could actually buy it.

Wait it's coming back to Steam, same with the Anno game or just assuming?
TBD, but every EGS exclusive this far has launched or is launching on Steam 12 months after launch. However, given that this was part of a Ubisoft-wide deal with Epic, there may be an exception.

With that said: in this case "12 months after launch" is mid-March, which does seem a bit early for the "squeezing pips" theory. I think this is a combination of a) the game having no legs on PC and b) the recent Epic Christmas Sale effectively selling the game for $5, which sets the new pricing floor. Given that I can find a physical copy of the Xbox version for £9, I suspect it's more a than b.

It didn't click as the first did.

Quest givers doesn't have a spit of personality while I still remember some of the previous ones. I breezed through the mission and have no idea what story is about.
In the division they took their time introducing bosses with audio logs and the csi scenes, I honestly can't remember a single one on Division 2.

I remember taking my sweet time walking in the street of a distraught New York, now levels are bigger but at the same time feel hollow and doesn't have the same immersion the smaller and denser streets of the first had.

I consider it as "bad" as Uncharted 3.
High production value but a step back.

18€ are a totally reasonable price anyway.

Game is getting a complete gear rehaul sometime around March or so, which will be the time when I jump back in after spending 200 hours with it at launch

Love the game

I heard the single player campaign is fun but once you get into the endgame the fun drops off significantly. Since a lot of the gold and ultimate edition content is for endgame players, I think I'll just stick with the standard edition.
