Europe
Since the generation is ending and we are having a rough conversation about price and costs on next gen machines in other threads, I was just wondering how much we actually invested in console hardware this gen?

I actually was surprised I bought 6 consoles this gen. PS4 (sold it later though), 2 X1X (one for me and one for daughter) and 3 (!) Switches (on for me, one daughter and one son).

I remember that the price of the X1X was a bit of a hurdle. "Should I buy another one? Not that cheapo" and the price of the Switches not so much. "Oh only 250 euro, I will get another one for myself".

So era?

PS4 at launch, then the MGS 5 PS4, then a pro.
Bought an xbox one, traded it in, eventually got an X.
Launch Switch, Switch lite, and a switch with an improved battery.

PS4
Xbox One
Wii U
Switch
PS Vita
PS Vita Slim
3DS
New 3DS XL

If I include 2 different gaming laptops, an Alienware and an MSI bought in 2013 and 2017 respectively, that's 10.

4, though only technically; i bought an Xbox One S, but I spotted one on sale with more games at a cheaper price, so I returned it and got that. I also just bought the one Switch and the one PS4.

Oh well if you count handhelds, I also had the PS Vita, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS XL, and New 2DS XL. lol

Point of order: Do the 3DS and Vita count? What about the Vita TV?

What about the Ouya?

Got a base ps4 a month after launch, and a base switch a year after launch.

Also got a nice laptop that can play ms games if that counts

Ps4 is what defined this generation for me. not owning a good pc, 90% of my gaming was done on a base ps4 this gen. Apart from some poe and a couple management and strategy games i played on pc.

Switch was my least used console to the point i kinda regret buying it that early. I dont use the portability enough to justify the extra cost of games on the system. Also nintendo 1st party games never drop in price, and that made me extra selective with my game choices. Ive bought and played 4 (four) games on the switch since i got it. And i dont think ill truly feel like it was worth it untill metroid prime 4 comes out (if it comes out for the switch at all)

Do handhelds count? In which case I have a (used) 3DS and a Switch. As someone who (except for brief periods) usually can spend no more than a hundred dollars or so on things like gaming a year, often less, I have difficulty wrapping my head around the spending ability of many of the people here.

A PS4 a year after launch and another (base) PS4 a few years later because it broke somehow.

1 because in some parts of the world it's not financially reasonable to buy many consoles so people goes with the console that has their favorite or preferred games and in the middle east it's usually a playstation console and in my case it was PS4.

Launch ps4, 2 years in faulty PSU so I got a voucher for a new ps4. So fixed the old one and gave it to me dad.

Then bought a new ps4 for my daughter, got an xb1s for myself. Bought myself a ps4 pro, bought my son a switch then bought my son a ps4 so...

7.

Probably going to be more next gen as the kids get older. Will likely pick myself up Ps5 and switch 2 and same for both kids and a switch 2 for the third and youngest kid. Gonna be an expensive Gen. urgh

PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Switch, and built a PC if that counts.

But also bought a bunch of old ones too. An AV Famicom (RGB Modded), A SNES Jr, also RGB Modded, a Saturn, a Super Nt, a Mega Sg, and even built a MiSTer.

I don't count the switch since I see it as Nintendo's next-gen handheld. But if you count it 1 switch.

PS4 in late 2014 and then Pro in 2017, sold the PS4 after that. So technically one.

I've lost count. I got a PS4 at launch, traded it some time later for Xbox One, sold that and went back to PS4 and I do that every time there is a new exclusive I want to play and then sell or trade it when I'm done. I would wager its at least 10+ consoles. I am back on Xbox One X for the time being.

If ya count the switch as current gen then then it plus a c chassis ps4 makes two.
