my GF at the time bought me a WiiU, which I sold to fund a PS4 (and Fallout 4), which I eventually sold to fund a Switch, which I sold to fund a Switch light.

so 1.

Launch Xbox One, Xbox One S and 3 Xbox One X consoles. I still have all of those.
Launch PS4 (sold) PS4 slim, 3 PS4 Pro consoles (sold 1). So together I bought 10 between those but sold 2.

I also have a Switch. I probably play that more than any of the other consoles.

11 total

PS4
PS4 Pro
PSVR
2nd PS4 Pro after my first broke.
2nd PSVR after my first was effectively stolen.
Xbox One VCR
Xbox One S
Xbox One X
Nintendo Switch
Oculus Quest

Did a lot of trades to recoup the cost when jumping from the PS4 to the Pro and the One to the S then to the X. Still, hope next generation is easier on the wallet. I don't want to do all this again.

6.

PS4
PS4 Pro
PS4 Pro (Death Stranding Edition)
Xbox One
Xbox One S
Xbox One X (Project Scorpio Edition)

I'd like a Switch but I dunno if I have the time for another platform.

3, a New 3DS XL, an OG Switch and a gaming laptop (if that counts).

Didn't realize the vote was number of consoles.

Xbox One
PS4
Xbox One X
PS4 Pro
Switch

If I had to do it over, I would have waited until Xbox One X. Both the PS4s are loud and get extremely hot. The Switch I never play. Probably have less than 50 hours playing it.

wait does 3DS count as "this gen"? If so, three. I wasn't considering it when voting.

PS4, Switch and 3DSXL if that counts.

Not including the 2DS I picked up to replace my aging 3DS XL.

PS4
PS4 Pro
Xbox One X
Switch

The original PS4 is still around but disconnected, I should probably get rid of it.
The other 3 get constant attention, though since I play a lot of 3rd party stuff the PS4 ends up being used more for media (Netflix/Amazon) than games.

PS4 and a Switch, does Wii U count even if it was used and I sold that piece of crap 2 months later?

Some of ya'll are crazy with the number of consoles you buy. I regret not picking up the 20th Anniversary or 500mil PS4 Editions, but otherwise I'm happy with just the few consoles I've purchased.

Launch PS4 (sold for Pro)
PS4 Pro
Switch

Almost broke down a couple of times to buy an Xbox One S, but then Microsoft gave me an out and started putting their games on PC. So I will continue to ignore that platform.

Xbox One at Launch
PS4 at Bloodborne Launch

PS4 Slim at Launch
PS4 Pro
Nintendo Switch
Xbox One X

In that order.

Always sold the old systems in favor of the new ones.

Switch and 3DS. That counts as 2.

If we include PC, that's 3, but I think everyone here doesn't include PC... so... 2 it is.

Launch 3DS
Launch Vita
Launch-ish PS4
Wii U Mario Kart bundle
White XB1

Sold XB1 to a friend, bought a used Storm Grey
Traded in the Storm Grey for a 1X
1X hard drive failed, got a 1S

Sold Aqua 3DS, eventually bought a white XL

Gave Vita to a friend, bought a Vita Slim

Gave WiiU to charity last year

PS4 disc dive started failing, so got a 2019 Summer of Play one

All told, currently have a 1TB 1S, 3DS XL, Vita Slim and PS4 Slim.

I probably bought three too many.
PS4, XB1, XB1 Elite, PS4 Pro, XB1 X, Switch, second Switch.

Shouldn't have bought the Pro, XB1 Elite, or the second Switch.

4.

PS4.
PS4 Pro.
Xbox One (complete waste of money since I've played it for a grand total of about 20 hours)
Switch

i won't be making the same mistakes next gen. I'm just buying a PS5. I barely have enough time for 1 platform, let alone 3...

PS4 and Switch. If you count Wii U (same gen really) then 3. Next gen it'll be an XBox and then whatever Nintendo do for their new console (So long as it's not just a more powerful switch)

I purchased a Xbox One on launch day and a PS4 in February of 2013. Ended up selling the PS4 later that year. Kinda regret doing so. My launch day Xbox One is still working great. Kinect died about a year and a half ago. Never really had much use for it other than voice commands. I'm definitely getting a Xbox Series X at launch then hopefully a PS5 around tax time next year. I'm pumped for this new generation of consoles!

This gen: 4
PS4, 20th anniversary PS4, switch (sold) & switch lite.

3ds/vita gen: 50+?
I have 36ish 3ds (I went LE crazy) I have also bought and sold off like 3 non LE
I have 4 vita (3 are LE), sold off 3 LE and 2 old units to thin the collection. I also have 2 vita TVs and sold off a LE Vita TV.

I do plan to still grow the 3ds collection but I'll never go that collecting crazy again in the future.=\ (I don't regret, just limited on space).

Console:
1. PS4
2. Xbox One
3. Switch

Handheld:
1. 3DS
2. PS Vita Original
3. PS Vita Original 3G

Six gaming consoles, five if we count Switch as a ninth generation console hybrid.

It seems like a lot, but I usually sold the current one for the next one.

Xbox: one original model, one S model, one X model
PS4: one original model, one slim model, one Pro model
Switch: one original model, one upgraded battery model, one Lite model

Uhhhhh.... depends, especially with nintendo being all mixed in.

Xbox One, S, and X
Ps4, Ps4 Pro, Vita, Vita TV
Switch, Switch Lite, 3DS XL, Wii U
New PC, Steam Link
Stadia

NES mini, SNES mini, PS Classic thing

The only consoles I have left are the switches, the xbox one x, the ps4 pro, my pc, stadia, and the retro consoles. My old ps3 is my blu ray player in the bedroom.

Edit: forgot the PSVR if that counts!

I may have a problem, as these were all purchased at their respective launches and are still owned:
- Xbox One Day One Edition
- Xbox One Halo 5 Edition
- Xbox One S 2Tb
- Xbox One X Scorpio Edition
- PS4
- PS4 20th Anniversary Edition
- PS4 Pro
- PS4 Pro 500 Million Edition
- Switch
- Stadia Founders

Guess I should have purchased a Switch Lite huh :).

EDIT: OP wasn't clear, but I'm considering the Vita, 3DS, and WiiU "last gen". I'm also excluding all of the minis and VR stuff. If these are fair game:
- 3DS
- 3DS XL
- Wii U
- Vita 1
- NES mini
- SNES mini
- Genesis mini
- PlayStation Classic
- Neogeo Mini
- PSVR
- Oculus Go
- Oculus Quest
- Steam Link

So under the "expanded" definition I'd be at 20+ (all still owned).

Three? If buying the PS4 Pro counts then it's three. The Switch is the last console I bought. Had absolutely no reason to buy a Xbox this gen.

For me? 5, but with some caveats.
- Used PS4 from someone about 4 months after launch for $350
- Used white XB1 for $250
- Switch
- Traded in my PS4 and my XB1 to pay for a white PS4 Pro
- 20th Anniversary PS4, which I still haven't opened. It's the one time I've allowed myself an obscene video game purchase.

I have a 3DS, Wii U, Switch, and gaming PC, however you want to categorize that in terms of generations.

I still really want to get a PS4 Pro for PSVR but I figure I'll wait and see if the price drops when the PS5 is unveiled/released.

PS4 then Xbox One then Switch and then Xbox One X.

So 4 consoles.

Granted, this gen is the gen I started console gaming so I doubt it'd be similar for me in later gens, but I got the following

PS3
2DS
PS4 (traded for PS4 Slim, then traded for PS4 Pro)
Vita
Switch (traded for Switch V2)
Wii U

I'd really prefer to avoid spending so much on hardware though - just waiting till the revision consoles come and buying them would be a good way of doing that, but it can be pretty tough to wait it out.
