I have a hard time believing that, you would be the first person I've heard of who saw the twist coming. You were spoiled there was going to be a twist, weren't you?

I also called it to my wife pretty early. Kind of. I guessed they were actually in purgatory and the neighborhood was like the final exam to get into the Good Place. It was all the frozen yogurt places that first made me suspicious, and then when Jian Yu's secret was revealed, and I thought about how insufferable Tahani was, and how there was obviously something weird with those dudes that loved all the trash, and I knew something was up.

The bigger surprise the twist to me, was Michael being complicit. I had sort of figured he was also somehow getting cosmically pranked... like he hadn't been worthy to design a neighborhood for the good place but if he made one for purgatory and his inhabitants passed the test then he did as well or something.

I've never had this urge before but I have to make a gif of Andy Daly's "checked my Apple Watch and it's margarita time" line

People called it before the first season ended. I wasn't one of them but other did.
I've honestly never neard or read anyone calling the twist before and I read abiut the shiw a lot during season 1.

Then you didn't call IT. You figured there was something going on and several people did after the Jason reveal but the two big ones (Michael being a bad guy and them heimg in the Bad Place) seem to catch everyone completely off guard.
I specifically remember discussions about Tahani's behavior but even when people recognized she was kinda shitty many figured her charitable work earned her enough points to get into the good place despite her losing some for boasting and being condescending. The whole point system seemed arbitrary enough to allow for that (and it does in fact, see Mindy, had she died a few days later after starting her charity the points would have counted for her and she' be in coke heaven right now despite not being a great person), the motivation thing wasn't brought up until later and then only in the context of Eleanor not being able to earn points because she was trying to get into the good place which didn't apply to Tahani on earth.

I also had the idea that there'd be a twist, my theory was that every soulmate pair consisted of one person who belonged and one who didn't, I had no idea why that would happen but it was something I thought about. But the actual twist? Completely unexpected.

No? I actually had a notion before watching that it'd turn out that the "Good Place' was actually being the Bad Place just because that's such an obvious joke to go with an ironic show title and watching the first season before the reveal reaffirmed it. There were bits I obviously didn't zero in on but Tahani was clearly not an actual good person in her doing everything for selfish reasons and her motivation was made blatant in her flashbacks, they kind of beat it over your head while Michael always overlooked it so she wasn't there by mistake and despite all that she was low on that list that she wasn't supposed to see which for someone like her was her own personal hell.

I don't really get why Michael said that in the end, it feels like that might only lead to chaos.
As a cliffhanger its kind of transparent, but its also in character for Michael who doesn't really get how human emotions work or what we consider important and who's sort of earnestly trying to be honest in a way he's not used to

Tbf, the theory that they were in the bad place was always floating around during the first season. It was a great twist, but let's not pretend no one saw it coming.

It's not fair that Michael told Eleanor about the times with Chidi but didn't tell her about the time with Tahani. It's just not fair.

Ban Michael.
Wait...when did Eleanor tell Tahani that she lovrd her ?

I think the big part was that they both said it to each other....not that they only hooked up.

Also Tahani is a married woman - Michael isn't a homewrecker....lol.

A lot of people called it after the first or second episode already, it's not really that hard to come up with it considering the premise. Otherwise the show wouldn't have joked about it early to try and dispell any doubt. They did a good job convincing people that there was no twist there, which is how a good twist is done.

I just marathoned the show on Netflix this past week and my guess was that everyone was pretending to belong like Eleanor. I didn't see the stuff with Michael coming. I was surprised when it turned out that Tahani's celebrity-related comments weren't made up.

She never told her that; it's just a joke about the attempt where she was told Tahani was her soulmate to keep her from bonding with Chidi. This was the same montage that briefly cut to her soulmate being Bambajan & a golden retriever.

Man, this season just seems...boring. At least compared to the previous two seasons. It's like their budget got cut in half or something. Meeting Eleanor's mom/making up with Tahani's sister was about as straightforward as things come, and it is starting to feel like it's veering into very well-worn territory. Really hope they shake things up again soon.

That's not to say I haven't been enjoying it, but it certainly isn't grabbing me as much as the previous two seasons.

lmao i forgot all about this, three years ago feels like a lifetime. it does seem like the kind of goofy thing the writers might laugh about among themselves.

Andy Daly is the human definition of the term "affable". That dude is like maximum approachable. Even on the podcast this episode I feel like I could see his smile with my ears.

So binged the entire show so far over the weekend and now i'm caught up. I contemplated waiting until season 3 was finished but said fuck it.

As for the twist i cheated since I didn't know the exact twist but knew there was one.

season 4 should be them back in the bad place with all the people they made go to the bad place by getting their friends and family into the good place

Wouldn't be surprised. They like their obscure references. When Michael and Janet wrote their "manifesto", he mentioned that he included a great recipe for pizza roles at the end (Mario Batali did that in his apology letter).

I mostly liked this week's episode. There wasn't a huge twist but Eleanor's story with her mom was sad and oddly touching. I can take or leave Tahani's story with her sister.

"All my fears are mine again" Chidi has been on fire this season.

This recent arc has felt like a real slowdown for the show's ordinarily rapid pacing (since we've still got to do one for Chidi, I assume there's going to be a third episode in a row about the Soul Squad trying to save someone else), but the writing and performances are still excellent - I feel like they've really hit their stride with writing every single character (though Jason's still a little bit too annoying sometimes). Feels like the next big twist will be a good one, too.

Simone was great - I hope (and think) we haven't seen the last of her.

honestly the cast of the show is such a perfect JRPG party

If you haven't heard it yet, last weeks podcast had the actress who played Kamila. It was nice to explore her more in this last episode, especially since we've heard about her so much and have only seen such small bits of her.

The show feels like it's scrambling for meaning at the moment and hasn't got much time left. I swear the episode premiering this week had a different name originally, something like "Reboot #456" but it's changed now.

Think the only thing bothering me about this season is Janet. She's just another human character now. Yeah, yeah I know the whole "Janet gets smarter with every reboot" but tbh, if that's the reason for her inconsistent behaviour this season then it's a bit of a cop out. Sometimes she has her powers, sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes she knows everybody's fate and every feeling, sometimes she has no idea. Sometimes she's "bing I'm a robot - i don't have skin, I'm not a human" and then she's expressing complex emotional reactions to random people, talking with zero robotic/'how can I help?' inflection.

Little confused about this. You're talking about this season, right? When has she had powers or known people's fates/feelings since going to the real world? She doesn't have powers but she has all the knowledge she had pre-real world (but nothing after that). I think they've been very consistent with that.

It's actually because Kristen Bell didn't want to do long seasons, she said so in the podcast. NBC could order 16 episodes per season but not more than that, it's in her comtract.

Good. Most US TV shows have too many episodes in a season. It's why I fell off of The Blacklist. Fantastic show, great characters, too many forking episodes.

I peeked ahead at episode titles early in the season and never saw that name.

I wonder who the great person in rural Canada is that Michael was alluding to..

Great to have Vicki back, I wonder what the demons plans will be to counteract the Brainy Brunch.

Love how they continue to take shots at Florida/Arizona or Nevada. Every place closing down turning into a porno shoot was great.

There was a great shot during The Good Place flashbacks where Tahani had this great befuddled reaction look. For this being her 1st real acting gig, she really does nail the character in so many ways.

Maybe visit their families and fork them over by making them do bad things. Or they reveal the point system on tv, screwing it up for everyone. Maybe that would lead to the judge scrapping the current system a d next season is about the soul squad being responsible for setting up a new one, with input from the bad place of course.
