Most of my gunpla orders are below the magical 22€ barrier which is where you start to pay taxes here on parcels coming from outside the EU. I even have an histogram to prove it. :P
The only good thing about the gunpla backlog is not having to worry about not getting the latest and being able to wait for stuff to get some discount.

What on earth are you buying at that price? Not sure I could even get a HG that cheap. Even if you exclude shipping.

Discounted stuff. Never expensive Master Grades which I only buy once or twice a year. However, mid range Master Grades like the Endless Waltz kits can go below 22€ with a decent discount.
Shipping isn't counted here when deciding whether the price is below the taxable amount even though it is counted once you are being taxed (weird, I know).
Right now one can get an MG Jegan for about 20€ (2,480 yen is a 43% discount from the official Japanese price, 38% if you don't count their 8% VAT) at Ami Ami https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail?gcode=TOY-GDM-3693
The only reason I'm not getting it is I already got it earlier for a similar discount.
Getting most HG or RG below 22€ (without shipping) isn't particularly difficult either even though there are exceptions for both like the RG Sazabi which probably won't ever go that low since it's both popular and expensive.

That Destiny boxart is almost as good as the MG Extreme Blast artwork.

Does anyone know when the RG Crossbone is coming out exactly? Most sites just say May. I found some places saying 23rd, others 25th and some saying it was delayed until June. I'm in Japan until the night of the 23rd and I'd really like to pick it up.

Yeah. I like Heromic and try to support them, but paying the prices is hard. They have some MG's at decent pricee but many at almost 10.000 yen which is rough.
Yeah for sure. I think I only bought my PG Exia from them because I imagined for such a big packet it might be better to not import. Prices were kinda close too.

That magical 22€ barrier is unreliable here in Sweden after they cracked down on Chinese packets from Wish. I used to get cheap gunpla from ebay without paying the taxes but now I can't really get rid of it anymore. 12€ + 25% on the price makes it so difficult.

I don't know about Sweden, you guys are supposed to be the exacting kind of Europeans, not us southerners.
Here, as long as it comes from Japan (not China for obvious reasons, Japanese exporters don't lie on package value) I'm sure they take the value printed outside the box, apply the going exchange rate and if you are below 22€ they move it forward, otherwise they put you in the tax-paying circuit (which is 21% plus a fixed 19€ fee for paying tax that is really the hurtful part).
To be honest, if I only had to pay the 21% VAT part without the fixed fee I wouldn't avoid it as much.

Yeah, I wish it worked that way here. The fixed fee is what really hurts it to me too. Makes cheaper kits so much more expensive.

And it begins
jgNsn39_d.jpg

Boy this guy is big, there's not even that many parts(well there are 16 frames) but the sheer size of everything. Taking my time though so may be a day or so before I'm done as I just want to savor it

Should be around the size of a PG Gundam?

I've come really close to picking it up a few times but I had a couple 1/60 HG kits from way back when and the polycaps always got way to weak to support the joints after too long. At least with Psycho though you can fold it up into box mode and leave it that way. If/when they ever do a MkII though I'll be first in line to get it.

Me and my bud are gonna start G-Gundam tonight. I peeked at the first ten minutes earlier and the dub is gloriously old; I am hyped for cheese.

It's a blast and very much it's own take on Gundam while keeping some core concepts. The designs are fun and over the top... Tequila Gundam needs a kit at least of the build divers version. Heck for that matter both the rest of the shuffle alliance(Bolt, Maxter, Dragon and Rose) along with the other 3 four kings really need modern hg's

Just remember it was the first Gundam spin-off and had a lot of free reign as a result. And that it's a 90's Super robot anime with corresponding cheesy but awesome dub(no seriously the guy doing Domon Kashu is great). It's not a traditional Gundam show by any means but a lot of fun. In fact this guys next on my list
5iVSoMN.jpg

(Well actually all 5 hgfc kits are in my to order list but this is the first one I got, plus the old master grade Shadow Gundam since that's his only modern kit

Also Psycho update and scale comparison pic. Just finished one leg and still have the armoring left on the left one
vUk2luk.jpg

This guy is ridiculously huge, I mean I'm pretty sure he's on the large side even compared to a perfect grade. I'll have to take a fun pic of him complete with the mk 2, Rick Dias, Quebley and Messala! But for today I'm fighting a headache and I have plenty of time this week so I'm done for today I think. Want to take my time on this guy

So Bluefin just added a P-Bandai "Limited Addition" (their word, not mine) U.S. option with pre-orders for Tallgeese III RG and Shelong Liayoa MG. 6 bucks shipping and no tax outside of their physical location in California. Hopefully it takes off and gets most if not all of the p-bandai releases. Not really into the Shenlong a ton, but early support, cheap shipping, no tax put it over the top for me. Basically the same price as the regular Shenlong through a site like amazon.

This has been a really intriguing development. I'm not interested in either of the 2 they have up now, but I really hope this is a regular thing.

I saw some US gunpla stores posting to tell people they should order through BlueFin because they won't be able to beat the price.

The p Bandai through bluefin is cool, nothing I want in this wave though.

Today's progress report, just taking my time and enjoying myself
n8Ac7g7.jpg

Going to have some fun taking action shots with this guy when I finish... or trying at least, I do have an action base thanks to my Messala, and gotta do a size comparison with my Zeong. Contemplating using this guy as my first panel lining attempt when I finish... or maybe that rx-78-02 since if I really screw up it's easy enough to replace xd

Bandai's been doing all these new SEED kits lately, seeing your Psycho makes me hope they'll finally do an HG Destroy Gundam.

Apologies for the off topic stuff but Best Buy has some old school mecha shows for pretty cheap:
Ideon for 35 bucks
Xabungle for 22 (just came back in stock)
Votoms for 25

The latter two are SD on Blu-ray.

The psycho gundam always looked so weird to me. Like it was a hold over from the original series because it's so blocky. Like the only thing they knew to do to make it evil looking was make it big and dark.

Hopefully it's a fun build though! It's a big boy!

I always felt that it's along the lines of: mk 2 is the refinement, Zeta is the evolution and Psycho is a reflection of the dark rise of Titan, the federations darkside a staggering force of pure destruction. Also it's blocky because it has super heavy armor

It also transforms into... something. That was the big theme of Zeta, robots turning into stuff for no reason but to sell toys/model kits. And hey, as a kid it absolutely worked.

I mean in its armor form it's super difficult to damage so there's that. Although the justification on most transforming units was a high speed agility mode to allow for long distance travel without the need of a secondary transport pad like the original show(heck the Zeta could act as a wave rider for another Gundam) it also made them a smaller target for AA batteries. So there's some justification

For anyone else that follows the Gundam Thunderbolt manga, does anyone know if the 12th volume, due to be released August 20th, will be the final volume? This manga is so fucking good and I'd hate to see it end but alas I guess all good things must. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I absolutely love Io as a protagonist and his relationships with other major characters. He's probably one of Gundam's best protagonists if I'm being completely honest. Although I'm not a fan of Gundam's obsession with newtypes, I appreciate their usage here. They don't necessarily win any combat encounter and surmount impossible odds. Lastly, I love the fact none of the principal characters are teenagers but veterans who have seen hell and their experience explains their combat ability.

I'll take more pics tomorrow with other kits more posing and his other form. Had a great time building it although i will be storing it in armor mode!

Will probably build the Master Gundam and Fuunsaki next week. House sitting while family is out of time so it's the rare time I can use the dining room table for multiple days without causing stress.

Wallet was 10k lol. Tbf I've been looking for a new wallet for months and it was an impulse buy when at the cashier :p

I think my total amount of kits is around 20 for this trip now. Probably done with kits for now. Going to Akihabara tomorrow though -_-

Lol sounds about right.

Protip, don't bother with kits in Akihabara, they are either the same price or marked up a bit. If you did not find it in the Gundam base don't think about it. (though there are p-bandai things on the shelves of various stores) but be strong!

Unless your ballin out of control, then go nuts lol.

Gundam base kits were more marked up than the kits in Akihabara when I was in Tokyo. Gundam Base had the most expensive kits I saw in Tokyo, only really worth it to buy the exclusive kits there.

Nope, it's just that the english releases are catching up with the japanese releases. Volume 13 just came out in Japan.
Just be aware that in Volume 12 there is an abrupt change in art style due to the author's wrist injury. After a hiatus, he has since been continuing the series by drawing with his non-dominant hand.

Speaking of manga, there apparently is a new Wing G-Unit manga in the works?

The Gundam: The Origin TV cut is going to start airing on Toonami in July. How is it? Is it better than the Unicorn TV edit? I had to give up on it after about six or seven episodes. It was terrible.

Ok, so finished the stardust memories a few days ago. Wondering if it's ok if I put aside Victory for now(I will watch F-91) and skip ahead to some of the side universes since after victory it's time for spinoff era. Then should I do Wing, Seed or 00 first(I have a non canon suit based off 00 I'm waiting to build. Full saber Qant)

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I'll have to google and see what vol. 12 onward looks like. I'm glad to hear that the manga isn't ending just yet. The latest American volume, volume 11 gives the impression that the curtain is about to close on this story so I'm glad to learn otherwise.

I've always loved Gundam Wing, one of my favorite Gundam series so I'll be reading this. Maybe I'll look into that GW manga that's running now, Glory of Losers. Do you know if it's any good? If I'm a die hard Wing fan will I enjoy it even if it's subpar?

The current arc on Earth is coming to a close, but it seems that the series is going to take things back into space.
Glory of Losers is pretty good. It is a retelling of Wing's story with some alterations in the vein of Gundam The Origin.
G-Unit was an old Wing spinoff manga that had was released in the US as The Last Outpost due to a copyright/trademark conflict with 50 Cent's Group. I don't remember if the narrative holds up but it had some cool designs.

Yea, I remember Gundam Hydra from Gundam Battle Assault and Valder Farkill, I think that was his name, being its pilot. He was supposedly a more accomplished pilot than Zechs in terms of confirmed kills and saw only Trieze as a worthy rival and kinda suffered a breakdown after learning that Trieze had been killed in battle. The G-Unit Gundams going by their specs on mahq always looked like they were more technologically advanced than their Wing brethren. Well, looks like I have 2 new manga series to start collecting now. I hope Epyon has a Katoki redesign. Thanks again.

A brother is hoping that Io makes it through this alive but he and Daryl can't relinquish their rivalry and hate of one another so I guess they'll both die...which sucks. They're both far more relatable and likeable than most Gundam protags and villains.

Finished After War Gundam X. It was very enjoyable, it lacked some of the drama that I like, and it was maybe a little forgettable. But I liked it's story overall.

I may wait a bit to dive into Turn A. I've just watched G Gundam, Wing, endless Waltz, 08th ms and X. So I think I need a break. There is so much gundam.
