I read the first post, but I'm still confused. What kind of video games is this tournament for?

I didn't know DOTA was an acronym. After all of these years I thought Dota was the game's actual name.

technically the dota in dota 2 doesn't stand for anything, because "defense of the ancients" is from the warcraft 3 mod and blizzard has a copyright claim
DoTA copyright is a mess, but the original Blizzard v. Valve lawsuit was over trademark. That particular lawsuit ended in a settlement, so we don't know exactly what Blizzard and Valve hashed out. However, there is a second lawsuit with Blizzard and Valve asserting copyright versus two smaller companies (Lilith & uCool), but I don't see any thing from that besides the original reports from 2017. The outcome of this case should help clarify the copyright situation though.
I don't know if I'd say they stumbled into it. A lot of teams just severely underperformed--Mineski, Fnatic.
Meepo actually showed up for a fight. Why Kpii went in on a WK like that is beyond me, but for once Secret had all 5 in the area and just stomped them.

Well they were 9th, 10th, and 11th in DPC. Had VGJ.S and Optic come online a bit earlier in the year they probably would have made Top 8. Optic having to face VP in deciding matches at like 2-3 straight DPC events definitely hurt their chances.
OG was definitely a surprise. I figured they were a safe lower bracket placement, but upper bracket hadn't even crossed my mind.

Why are the random commentary voice clip taunts enabled globally for these matches? its kind of bizarre to see
They're a prize you can get from the International Compendium. I believe they're only team enabled but because casters can hear all team's audio it's global to viewers.
I find it fun, to a certain extent. I'm assuming most pro teams mute the other team so they don't have to listen to it—especially for teams like VP who constantly use the chat wheel.
Some of the more higher tier voice clips are played for everyone. The players can mute each other if they don't want to hear it though.
