As I watched the Nintendo Direct, all I could really think about is "I really hope they reveal female Erdrick and Sofia after the Direct on the website." But nah, not even that. Apparently the four Heroes just have one alt color each.

This was the perfect opportunity to add female alts at the end of the trailer as an afterthought, which is the bare minimum one should expect, and they didn't even hit that mark. Aside from Kazooie, who is honestly the lesser half of Banjo as far as the moveset goes, I question whether we will get any female representation in the Smash DLC. This is why people get so annoyed with Sakurai, because he seems to deprioritize representation in Smash to such an extent that he neglects them. I would reckon that rather than Sakurai not focusing on women, he seems to be focusing away from them, and it sucks.

I think it might not be necessarily the case that Sakurai's trying not to have female representation.

The characters that get into SSB are usually from mainstream games, which (sadly) are dominated by male protagonists, and SSBU's character selection IMHO is a reflection of that. Sakurai could perhaps still do better, but I can't really think of a prominent Switch game from recent memory with a female protagonist (or at least an exclusively female one).

Edit:Especially because most characters that do have the clout to get in are from well-established, older franchises; and those also are male protagonist dominated.

No Sofia or F!Erdrick seems like a glaring oversight.

Kazooie does pretty much all the moves in BK. She's definitely not the lesser half, Banjo does almost nothing lol.

I don't think Sakurai is actively avoiding female representation but rather it's not on his mind at all.

Still a chance for the alts to show up later though, right?

Sadly the majority of Switches lineup consists of male characters so Sakurai can only work with what he gots. He could do more for custom characters though.

Missed opportunity for female Erdrick, but other then that there really isn't another female DQ hero that's really iconic for Smash.

While these issues are important to discuss, for the time being we would like to redirect the multiple discussions on the Super Smash Bros DLC to the main announcement topic as part of our E3 decongestion rules. You may remake these specific threads when E3 has ended.
