About time! So much for the "out before Japan" bit from the GameSpot announcement. :P
Yes (I'm not going to bother telling people to play the Sky trilogy and watch playthroughs/recaps for the Crossbell duology first, even though they would provide greater understanding of the setting/overarching story and make all of the callbacks and character reappearances resonate more, but playing CS1 and 2 is the bare minimum needed for this).Isn't it pretty important to have played the previous two in the series?
Downloading demo.
Still not sure if I should get it without the rest of the saga though.
Such a bizarre decision to release this without the previous games, too. It's not the type of game where you can jump in and be fine.

Absolutely insane how slow these games are localised. I finished this back in early 2018. Like others have said, without the first 2 games you wont know what is going on at all.

frankly it's important to play every game that came before this one, but the absolute bare minimum should be playing CS1 and 2 at least which unfortunately makes the release of this game on Switch extremely awkward.Isn't it pretty important to have played the previous two in the series?

I wouldn't expect them anytime soon, and for the near future fan translations are likely all we'll have to work with, but I think Zero and Ao getting localized is an inevitability at this point and is probably one of the major factors for why the games are getting re-releases on PS4 in Japan and coming out relatively soon (in a month or two). That's not all we still haven gotten Zero and Ao and we probably never will. Thank god for fan translations, that Zero one is amazing.
Trails of Cold Steel III on Nintendo Switch™ will release on June 30 in North America and Europe and July 7 in Oceania! A free demo is available to download on Nintendo eShop. Experience the legend of Class VII and carry over save data to the full game upon release!
A rat is a rat.Ugh I need to finish Ao at some point so I can get into this ;_;
I recommend you to start with 1 and 2 at the very least. Starting with CS3 is like watching avengers infinity war as your first marvel movie.Still wanted to play 1&2 on Vita before jumping into this, but looking at my current time schedule, might be tricky.
I'm about to risk jumping into this in June without playing the other two.
I dunno. I think you can jump into Infinity War just fine without seeing the prior films. But yeah it would certainly help a lot. Plus most know who the characters are even just from seeing them around throughout the years, unlike the Trails series. :PI recommend you to start with 1 and 2 at the very least. I went into Cold Steel without playing previous games, and I never felt lost. Not just the first two cold steels, realistically you want to play both zero and azure which only have fan translated pc releases, and that's not even counting the sky trilogy that also builds into these games.

Considering the price this is listed for on Switch, you could probably grab ToCS I and II and a second-hand Vita to play them on for not much more if you want them portable?I feel like the switch would be the perfect machine to go through these series on for those who have missed out so far... I'm one of them.
I'd love to buy the 3rd game in the series, but I wouldn't knowing I'd be missing out on a TON of background. It looks good.. But bring the rest of the games so we can at least play this one.
Falcom not starting localization talks with partners until after the JP release of their titles is the main reason for this.Absolutely insane how slow these games are localised. There's a free demo that carries over. You can use that to check out the summary.Sorry for the bump, but I couldn't find an OT for the game, which is releasing soon.
So, is this worth playing if you didn't play the first two games? I know the game has a summary of.previous events, but is that enough? Is there some sort of "movie" compilation on YouTube?
I have no interest in playing the previous games because I only play JRPGs on handhelds nowadays, and I don't have a Vita.

Battles are kinda fun for a JRPG.Sorry for the bump, but I couldn't find an OT for the game, which is releasing soon.

I started it recently , still on the first one , but I like it so far.One of these days I'll start this franchise.
Also, that background music they used sounds like an off-brand royalty free Sum 41 - Still Waiting.
