The Mandalorian is basically a video game

ARMOR CRAFTING
As seen in: Diablo 3, World of Warcraft Disney Plus
Imagine you’re playing The Mandalorian as a game. You’ll start by taking on a mission for some nasty folk, who offer to pay you upfront in a rare material you’ll need to upgrade your armor. After you get your new pauldron from the armorer, you only need five more upgrades to get the armor set bonus!

BLURRG-RIDING PERK UNLOCKED
As seen in: Ocarina of Time’s Lon Lon Ranch sequence Disney Plus
You’re informed that the only way to reach the location of your next target is on “horse”-back. Unfortunately, you don’t know how to ride a “horse,” which means you’ll need a brief training sequence.

DEFEND THE DOOR AGAINST WAVES OF ENEMIES
As seen in: Call of Duty, Goldeneye 007 Disney Plus
Oh no, the mark is behind a steel door that needs to be hacked open! The only problem? Waves of enemies to hold off! If only you could…

HOP ON A GODDAMN LASER TURRET
As seen in: Gears of War, Call of Duty Disney Plus
Eat your heart out, Gears of War! It’s time to blast everything in site with a giant gun you aren’t going to be allowed to keep past the current level.

PERFORMING SELF-HEALING
As seen in: Far Cry 3, Fallout 4 Disney Plus
After getting nicked a few times in the heat of battle, you have to heal up. Sure, you have a full-on hole in your arm, but some amateur surgery should do the trick nicely.

SNIPER MISSION
As seen in: Call of Duty Disney Plus
Oh no, Jawas are stealing all your stuff! Better lie prone and pick off as many as you can before they run to safety.
NEW ABILITY UPGRADE
As seen in: Any Metroidvania Disney Plus
“Whistling Birds are a powerful defense against multiple enemies,” the armor crafter tells you. “Use them sparingly, for they are rare.”
more at the link. I was thinking this when watching the show, too-especially the incremental armor upgrades.

It’s an old school TV serial mixed with samurai manga/movies

Video games didn’t invent upgrades and fetch quest

maybe video games, television, and movies are inspired by the same stories and elements that make up these stories.

Wow a character who is part of a culture that places importance on armor who works in a profession that involves danger and combat improves said armor.

Only in Video Games.

You’re reacting to this like they are framing this as a negative. It’s not.
Right, I'm wondering why theres so much hostility about this subject. It's not saying it should be a game or the show would be better as one, merely that there are familiar touchstones there that would translate extremely well to game design. This isnt a knock on the show's quality

muh Star Wars

but seriously, the show is fantastic and it’s really cool to see these hallmarks incorporated into the show.

Why is Disney Plus at the end of ever "As seen in"? Are you trying to SEO your era post?

Much like a video game, the MC goes on a sniping / killing rampage of Jawa NPCs who are suddenly ok with him minutes later so long as he completes a fetch quest for food.

I did find it pretty dumb that the just randomly decide to make this very specific application weapon and then of course he has to use it in the next scene and it does exactly what he needs it to do.

Picked up on this early. Especially with the armor upgrade.

I would totally play The Mandolorian game.

Yeah I kinda felt that way for a bit. The (mostly) silent and completely helmeted protagonist along with what kinda feels like roadblocks to just introduce action rather than further the plot much really does it. Didn't really think about the quest for better armor sort of angle.

And the clunky dialogue gives that feel, too.

Sure, and I don’t mind it.
something like John wick’s armored enemy scene was a bit too much for me, but this application feels ok rn
