It is one of my favourite genres but very few releases nowadays as it's not so popular any more, but that album is my favourite of the year and also a return to form for the band. You should check out Daylight Dies if you like doom-death in general.I normally skip most doom/death, but Runemagick 'Evoked from Abysmal Sleep' is turning out to be one of my favorites of the year. I haven't gotten into a doom band in a long time.

Holy fuck lol, Deceased is the only one in that entire list that made my top 10... >_>Also here is my end of year list. Top 25 and then the rest that I enjoyed listening to in no particular order.

I also actually know (beyond just by name I mean) like, 5% of that list? <___<
Yeah a bit. It's an interesting topic for me, a photographer and someone that does social media for business purposes.
The one thing no one seems to bring up in the fine line between "commercial" and "non-commercial" on social media that I find interesting: The picture was originally reposted on the singer's instagram. That singer didn't get a cease and desist/pay demand. The band is essentially fine reposting pictures of themselves. And, who would really argue with that? But realistically the clothing person did the same thing. Band reposts with "Hey this is an awesome picture of me!" and the clothing person reposts with "hey this is an awesome picture of the shit I made!" Not a big difference there. Unless you don't see the band as a business. But they are. Each photo they repost is business related just as much as the clothing person. They want you to buy their records or come to a show. The picture sells the show to viewers.

New Swallow the Sun track, "Upon the Water".
Their new album, When a Shadow is Forced into the Light, is out January 25.
haunter might be along the lines of what you're looking for. the 2018 split with crawl was definitely one of my favorites of the yeardoes anyone know any bands that are similar to Gorguts post-Obscura? That remains to this day one of my favourite albums and it was so hard to find other music like it. I already know about Deathspell Omega.. and that's about it.
Hey all, this looks like the place to ask. I used to listen to a lot of metal when I was in high school/a few years out of it and I've been getting back into it a bit. I'm pretty lost with whatever's come out more recently with the exception new releases by groups I already knew. Specifically, and what I had trouble with even back then, does anyone know any bands that are similar to Gorguts post-Obscura? That remains to this day one of my favourite albums and it was so hard to find other music like it. I already know about Deathspell Omega.. and that's about it. I think Gorod was suggested to me as a similar group as well but I wasn't into them as much.
If not, I'm open to more general suggestions of other bands I might like. Apart from those two I also like a lot of Meshuggah and Gojira.
That's a shame. I hope Pertubator, Master Boot Record, etc. continue doing well.
Really surprised Rivers of Nihil is getting more love, seemed like everyone loved that album. Results from the Metal Archives community vote for top 10 albums of 2018, if anyone cares:
Full results here. Not a bad list, and I'm glad Visigoth beat Amorphis (by 1 point haha), but I'm disappointed that Summoning was so low (it was even beaten by the new Ghost, baaarf) and that I was the only one who even gave a vote to Deströyer 666's new EP, even.
- Visigoth – Conqueror's Oath
- Amorphis – Queen of Time
- Solstice – White Horse Hill
- Satan – Cruel Magic
- Voivod – The Wake
- Varathron – Patriarchs of Evil
- Primordial – Exile Amongst the Ruins
- Judas Priest – Firepower
- Horrendous – Idol
- Chapel of Disease - …and as We Have Seen the Storm, We Have Embraced the Eye
But congrats to Visigoth \m/

Good list. Visigoth, Solstice, and Satan were all up there for me and I enjoyed everything else on there. Also happy to see Chapel of Disease crack the top 10. I've been spinning that regularly since it came out. Results from the Metal Archives community vote for top 10 albums of 2018, if anyone cares:

For those who like atmospheric black metal
Huh. I always thought the Veldes dude was just one really talented person. Didn't know that.Yay more music from my hometown :D Really like the cover image, this is the vista that I watch every day.
Vocals are from the vocalist from Within Destruction
I know a few of you live in the Bay Area. Do you know what music clubs I should check out if I want to see where bands like Vio-Lence played?
Huh. I always thought the Veldes dude was just one really talented person. Didn't know that.
One of my favorites in black metal though. Dissection got me to really check the sub genre out, but Veldes got me to dive deep into it.
I have no idea, why Ghost are listed as metal band. They are more like arena rock and they were, at least for me, always on the rock side of the music. And I really liked Prequelle, it took some time to click at me, but now it is one of the few albums from 2018 that I can listen in one sitting. Can't wait to see them live.
Speaking of bands getting big, I had no idea that Powerwolf are so popular in Germany. To sell out Zenith in Munich and Saarbrucken arena it is not a small feat.
All music is written and performed by one guy, but this time he invited a vocalist from Within Destruction (deathcore/slam). Veldes guy used to play a bass in WD and they play in another band (Nephrolith) together.
Wendy's roasted some metal bands, it was pretty funny:
