So just got back from seeing Thou at place of about 20 people. Was legit.
They played 2 new songs, a nirvana cover (Flyod the barber) and 3 songs from Peasant.
I grabbed the 2LP limited press of Peasant while there. Bryan and the guys are so cool and down to earth.

check out his doom flip flops:

Been watching these guys on Youtube. They are into hip hop but somehow got into metal reaction videos and I've really enjoyed what they say. I don't necessarily agree but I can definitely see where they come from on some things. Like they weren't big on Slayer but loved Master of Puppets and Holy Wars which have a lot more musicianship than just blunt force.

I found Lost in Vegas last weekend and I went on marathon watch session. Love these guys. I've developed a new appreciation for some songs because of them. Not that I "hated" things like Master of Puppets, but I think when you hear it so many times you almost get stale on music. Watching their reaction to Master/Holywars/Painkiller/etc brought me back to hearing them for the first time. They are also introducing me to other great music too.

I'd really like them to do some Strapping or DTP.

Yea I love Slayer but man those guys are so on point with their disappointment in it. I mean its not bad music but if you compare it to Puppets or Holy Wars the music just isn't anywhere equal. Their eyes are seeing harmonies and melody where I'm seeing getting shit done faster and head banging.

Edit: Hmm...meant to quote but this new system is weird and foreign...

Glad the Metal OT is now open and I hope we have a lot of the same people from GAF coming over. It really was one of the best metal communities out there.

Heading out to the pre-show for Days of Darkness on Friday (Slough Feg, Acid King, Cough, Inter Arma, & Blood Mist) and then Primitive Man and Bell Witch in early Nov.

My album of the year so far:
Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper - https://bellwitch.bandcamp.com/album/mirror-reaper

Other albums from this year that I really enjoyed and have been listening to frequently:
Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing - https://darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/eroded-corridors-of-unbeing
The Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia - https://theruinsofbeverast.bandcamp.com/album/exuvia
Suffering Hour - In Passing Ascension - https://bloodharvestrecords.bandcamp.com/album/in-passing-ascension-cd-12lp
Aerial Ruin - Nameless Sun - https://aerialruin.bandcamp.com/album/nameless-sun
Ufomammut - 8 - https://ufomammut.bandcamp.com/album/8-2
Primitive Man - Caustic - https://primitivemandoom.bandcamp.com/album/caustic

The new Primitive Man is up there for AOTY.
Can't wait to see them with Bell Witch -- they're actually playing at the same place I just saw Thou -- very tiny place but killer sound.

Hey guys, glad to see ya'll.

So yeah, the new Enslaved is pretty righteous. I heard a bunch of hullabaloo about this album being a bit of a departure for them, but to me it's the same Enslaved from the last few albums for the most part.

Biggest news to me is that Helloween: Pumpkins United now has US DATES!! Gonna be going to the NYC show.

My top picks for the year so far are below. Overall I think this has been a slow year for metal. Last year I couldn't keep up each week but this year its been super slow. Slow enough that I really haven't kept up on new releases for a few months although I do look at recommendations from threads like this. I have vacation coming up next week so maybe I will get on it a bit more.

I've been jamming this Bear Mace a lot. Something about it really draws me in.
https://bearmace.bandcamp.com/album/butchering-the-colossus

Expulsion - Nightmare Future is really good too. Once Funeral Bells hits I'm in the zone.
https://expulsiongrind.bandcamp.com/album/nightmare-future

All Hell - The Grave Alchemist has the Castlevania theme down
https://allhell.bandcamp.com/album/the-grave-alchemist

Witch of 1692 - Impious Mysterial Hymn is pretty mesmerizing for me.

Currently listening to:

Propagandhi - Victory Lap. Superb album, though I think Supporting Caste is still their best.

Arcane Roots - Melancholia Hymns. I've got a soft spot for these guys and I think this is a pretty good album, even though they've taken a pretty harsh swerve into the synth-soaked territory.

Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun. I'm a Chelsea Wolfe fanboy and she can do no wrong. This is her heaviest record to date and also one of her best.

I used to be into The Black Dahlia Murder in the early 2000's, Miasma is still awesome but I hadn't bothered with them since that. I listened to some of their more recent records the other day, some pretty decent stuff although I wasn't too sure on some of it.

Apart from listening to that in the car, I put Cryptopsy - None So Vile on this morning, not heard that in a while.

Blvt Avs Nord still has his album to come out yet, so before it does I can't really say what my Album of the Year is... but so far, Body Counts Bloodlust is fucking fantastic!

Oh sweet, a metal thread!

The wrestling thread had a prompt for top 5, so I figure I'd post my top 5 Metal bands currently:
1. Opeth
2. Between The Buried And Me
3. Mastodon
4. Witchcraft
5. Tool

So I really love prog and doom/sludge metal.

Anyone have recommendations for bands that would be similar to Witchcraft, Sabbath, or Truckfighters? I've been really digging doom/sludge/psychedelic stuff lately and trying to find more. I tried The Sword based on Spotify recs but I couldn't get into them.

If you don't have a problem with instrumental try this. Actually I think 4 is their best album and also their most proggy so maybe if you like this check it out, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7d17vzjqZo

Already seeing familiar names, glad to be back! I'm sure soon we will see more make their way here.

Since this is a new era I guess I should say what my favourite metal genres are.

My gateway into metal was through black metal and doom metal, this is what most local bands for me in the late 90s and early to mid 2000s were playing around my region and town where I grew up so to this day they are still my most listened to genres, and of course any blackened metal such as blackened doom I tend to like. However I pretty much listen to any metal if the band is good but that's where generally my tastes lie.

My favourite black metal band is Nagelfar from my home country Germany, not to be confused with the Swedish one called Naglfar that is melodic.

Hello fellow headbangers! Glad to see some of you moved over here.

In metal news, the new Ne Obliviscaris is up on their Patreon, so I've been listening to it the last few days. It's pretty good, though it doesn't feel as groundbreaking and unique as Citadel felt to me. Still very similar to that style overall. It's released tomorrow so more people should be able to listen to it on Spotify and such.

So, I started metal recently and Blind Guardian is still the legit no.1 power metal band. Anything similar? I've tried Helloween but, eeeehhhh.I liked Rhapsody (of Fire) - Dawn of Victory
Speaking of that I got into DIO. Dude has a fucking awesome voice.

Iced Earth is a bit thrashy but their my favorite power metal band I think. Manowar and Pyramaze are pretty cool too.

I listened to the new yellow eyes for the first time yesterday. It was an overwhelming thing to take in in one listen but it definitely seems like they improved again.

I don't like The Body at all but I've enjoyed the couple of tracks from the latest Full Of Hell collaboration

Full Of Hell are one of my favorites live but I don't think they've ever nailed it on recording and after coming really close with their Nails split they went in the complete opposite direction with Trumpeting Ecstasy. Every time I've seen them it's bottomed out noise and blasts, not crystal clear Converge meets Morbid Angel or something. Booo.

Anyways here's a song from their collab, The Body's dumb DSBM vocals are buried pretty heavily under the music so they're about as tolerable as possible

If you want some doom bands I will recommend you some that I enjoy, this is mostly doom but there is also some stoner like Elder. May be hit and miss depending on your specific taste. Not going to mention very well known ones such as Electric Wizard and Sabbath (as you mentioned) to keep it more interesting.

Edit: Seems like you are not allowed to embed more than two YouTube videos in a single post

(this is more blackened doom, been listening to this a lot lately)
SubRosa
Warning (you may also want to check out Patrick Warner's other project out too called 40 Watt Sun, two albums so far, first is doom, second is more rock-ish)
Side note, I also like Truckfighters and although they've always been more of a rock-ish band their latest album went too much to the side of rock although I still enjoyed it, I hope they return more to their older Mad Max-esque desert doom/rock hybrid they had going that got me interested.

I checked out Yellow Eyes today. First off the vocals are almost too screechy for me...but the music is pretty enthralling and nearly makes me forget about the vox. I've listened to it twice today and give it another spin.

Aah, good to be back.

At this auspiciuos occation I'd like to reiterate that Khemmis is so goddamned great, and probably the most triumphant-sounding doom/sludge/stoner-band ever.
