Peter Sollett has been brought on to write and direct Warner Bros.' long-anticipated film adaptation of the popular video game "Minecraft."

Based on the globally popular video game, the story follows a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers who, after the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.

Kinda.. generic? Let's see what will come from this. They've been planning on making a Minecraft movie since 2014. But this one is stated for 2019.. don't think that's gonna happen. The IP still holds enough strength.

Sounds really similar to the premise of the Telltale game, just substitute the dragon.

The Minecraft Movie should be directed by Charlie Kaufman and centre around the game's creator's life after selling the game to Microsoft.

So no more Rob McElhenny? Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing what a Minecraft movie made by Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia would be like.

It could be fun, at least it doesn't seem an isekai or an origin/explanation story for the world itself.
It's the Minecraft world, there are adventures on it. Just like for the Detective Pikachu film, I think it's the right approach to start for these videogame films.

This movie's gonna happen eventually, whether it takes 1 year, 5 years, or 25 years (looking at you, Sonic)

As long as it uses an art style closer to the games or better, instead of the horrid looking Story Mode.
