As you may be aware, in the last few weeks in 4chan multiple Nintendo-related old things have been leaking, starting with old Pokémon debug ROMs and source code, then most recent 3DS debug ROMs, then keys for all consoles up until the DSi and now the biggest of them all: the full source code, design files, documentation and pretty much everything used to create the Revolution, aka Wii.

The files seem to come from a server hack related to the BroadOn company, who Nintendo hired for developing most of the Wii hardware and software.

I'm not going to link it (though you will find it easily on 4chan), but here's all the contents of this massive leak:

-Source code for boot0/1/2
-Block diagram/datasheets for every system component & Verilog for AES/SHA
-Documents from BroadOn describing feature planning and implementation + APIs + docs for internal software
-Full IOS SDK
-Source code for IOS (IOS is the Wii Operating System)
-Planning docs for implementation of the system from 2004-2006
-some wii sdk library source code (DVD, EXI)
-source code and info on manufacturing and publishing systems
-some misc. nintendo stuff (internal WPAD SDK from 2005, Wii Overview from RVL_SDK 1.0)
-"sdboot", a special manufacturing version of boot2 which loads data from the SD card; is very buggy and likely exploitable for boot2 code execution on all Wiis (it is retail signed)
-gamecube and ique stuff as well (internal gamecube docs including physical disc layout, massive 2GB+ iQue dump including full CVS for that as well)

The biggest and craziest thing in this leak is the datasheets, block diagram and Verilog files for every component. Verilog is a hardware description language; is used to describe circuits via code, so with this we can learn how every single piece of the Wii was made.

Apart from this, here's everything that has leaked during the past few weeks:

Debug Builds of Blue and Yellow
Source code for Blue and Yellow
Japanese Debug Builds of G/S
Symbol Map for Crystal.
G/S Source code
Spaceworld '99 demos
Official GameBoy emulator
Internal lists that list everything released (including unreleased ones) for all Nintendo systems up to the DS
Pokémon Gen 7 debug builds, official 3DS legality checkers, a O-Power distribution CIA and a VC Mew distrubtion CIA
Source code for the N64, Gamecube and Wii

Here's a sample video from one of the leaked N64 files, a demo ROM used by Nintendo to test the console:

There's probably more coming, but counting everything that has leaked so far, has the potential to be the biggest confidential data leak in gaming history.

California man who hacked into Nintendo servers to steal video games and other proprietary information pleads guilty

Seattle – A 21-year-old Palmdale, California, man pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Seattle to federal crimes related to his computer hacking scheme and his possession of child pornography found on his digital devices, announced U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran.

Basically, he used phishing to get the credentials of one NoA employee and dumped everything he could. He then shared the file with other people before being arrested. Now, those other persons are finally sharing the files online.

I know the original person was arrested. The others will be too when they get caught.

I can't see emu devs making obvious use of anything though. That would give Nintendo's lawyers reason to legally shut the emulators down.

How does anyone decide it's worth ruining probably the rest of their life for this?

Oh shit, that's the dude with the child pedo charge?

Jesus...

How does anyone decide it's worth ruining probably the rest of their life for this?

From what I remember the dude literally did not give a fuck, he was flaunting to Nintendo how he was circumventing their security, completely in the open on his Discord server, and was given a C&D warning, which was pretty lenient all things considered from how blatant he was about it earlier.

For some of this info I imagine it's a cats outta the bag situation. It'd be hard to go after emulator devs if they couldn't conclusively link any new developments to this leak. There's always the plausible deniability of reverse-engineering. Crazy that this stuff got out

Dolphin is about to be 100% compatible with the Wii and Gamcube library.

They were already sitting at 99%.

Though I'm sure any knowledge gleaned from this in the production or enhancement of any emulator will not be spelled out in any source code. I'm sure they'll still reverse engineer, but now, they'll know the exact manner in which they have to reverse engineer to speed things along.

They probably aren't. They didn't sign any NDA nor hacked any servers, the only thing Nintendo can do is sue them for sharing copyrighted content, but I doubt they will do that at this point.
They could put them as associates of the hacker who did it. These are big, big leaks of trade secrets of how the hardware was designed right down to the OS.
