Because "literally" a bunch of non RPGs are branded as such in the press. FFS, Monster Hunter just won best RPG. Anymore, having at least two dialogue options and a random skill tree = "RPG!!!". Like I said, they have my money anyway.

What makes you think Obsidian or Tim Cain would make a Borderlands game?
With Todd Howard and company showing such absolute disdain for the Fallout franchise....this was like the perfect time and place to create something similar but different and fucking kick them in the face. Way to go Obsidian!
And? You're arbitrarily deciding that this upcoming game that calls itself an RPG, has skill checks like an RPG, and other mechanics like dialogue trees and companion characters common to RPGs, and whose creative leadership have a long pedigree of RPGs, is not an RPG for reasons. Which is pretty strange.
Who the hell knows? Who thought Bioware was going to make Destiny?

It's more that Take Two can't farm it out to someone else to do a sequel.
If this is successful (jesus, how can this not be?) the Microsoft and Take Two would work out a deal. Makes no sense to either for it to sit in the vault making no one any money.

This looks like The Precursors with a serious budget.

I felt this when the acquisition was made official, but with this reveal Obsidian have solidified themselves as the crown jewel of Microsoft's first party stable, IMO.
I'm very excited for this. I wasn't sure about the aesthetic from the teaser images, but the trailer looked great overall and the implication from the trailer that the old west stuff is an intentionally terrible corporate pastiche makes it actually pretty hilarious instead of just tired and derivative.
Hades looked like it might be decent too, but otherwise there wasn't really much besides those two.
